I go by the "Waifu instinct", the most Waifu characters are my mains. In this case: Gardevoir Braixen Garchomp Because Gardevoir is a beautiful maid. Braixen is best magical grill and Garchomp is extra T h i c c
If I had any say in the Pokken Tournament DX archetypes, Decidueye and Aegislash would be standard due to their strength in all areas of combat, Scizor is likely evasive due to his better run, hover to bait out and avoid attacks, and quick attacks of his own, not to mention his dash chains. Same goes with Empoleon due to his slide mechanic and quick, deadly combos. Croagunk is definitely pressure, always wearing down his opponents with status debuffs, and the fact that his random projectiles have the possibility of being deadly. Blastoise is definitely defensive, as he baits out attacks with his shell form and either counters or applies literal defense buffs to himself, alongside great range and some projectiles. Now, last but certainly not least: my main, Darkrai. He is a tricky one. At first, it would seem as if he is a projectile, or even just defensive character due to his zoning and traps, but than his (effectively) second form (or mode), Bad Dreams Rising is activated, and then he almost becomes an evasive or pressure character due to his absolutely amazing set up options and combos, not to mention his buffed movement options. Overall, I'll put him as pressure, since his traps are able to be placed from a distance, and be activated from a distance, not to mention the sudden ranged attacks, like his charged up weak or back strong. And some of his attacks can also stun, further adding to that aforementioned pressure.
How I picked Main:I had three: My first main was Pikachu. I picked him because I thought that since he was the mascot, he would be the easiest to pick up. Pikachu was my main for all of the first game. When Pokken DX came out, I of course tried out all of the new characters. I found Empoleon particularly interesting. After I practiced for a while, Empoleon and Pikachu were my two top picks. Once I was in C3 Rank in Pokken DX, I fought a really good Garchomp. After testing the Action and Combo Dojos, I practiced some more CPU battles, discovering new combos along the way. After a week of practice, I took him online. Before I picked up Garchomp, there was nothing for me, I was almost C4 Again. Once Online, Garchomp got me all the way to B5 and the top 500 in points in the world. Garchomp is my current main, my secondaries are Pikachu and Empoleon.
When I got pokken I knew nothing about Pokémon besides Pikachu, so I just chose the coolest looking pokemon (suicune) and know she’s my main! (Hi from 2020)
I really appreciate you dude, I'm a kind of player who watches top players with a character in a fighting game to learn and improve so I appreciate that you put people to watch at the end for a certain character, I want to say they are the best with that certain character buy I'm mew to the pokken community so I dont want to assume but thanks this really helped! :)
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO! It's been 3,000 years since the last VIDEO and great topic Dale! Personally I pick a character If I have emotional attachment. Like I main Pit in SSB4 because I love his game. In Pokken however I don't know who to pick honestly. Thanks Dale you helped me find my new main with this video, Blaziken. Thanks Dale!
Super awesome! I honestly laughed at the first strategy, because that's exactly what I did, right down to the example character! Treecko is my favorite pokemon, so when they announced Sceptile my first thought was "that's him. That's my main" Turns out I got lucky and picked a top 3 character ;P
Thanks for this video, really well done. It was well explained and displayed, and the strategy for differing play styles was certainly the most helpful for me.
I picked Mewtwo first, then I kinda merged into a Shadow Mewtwo main. Shadow Mewtwo seems better for my style, weirdly enough. Low health? Meh, not that much of an issue for me. His attacks look awesome and can be really powerful in the right situation. Plus, I genuinely like a challenge. Playing Shadow Mewtwo is that challenge.
To add on with the new 6 (soon 7) characters for dx, I'd classify Darkrai and Empoleon as pressure, Scizor as Defensive Croagunk as Evasive, and Decidueye as Standerd, and Ageislash as Defensive too
I'm going to be getting the game soon. My fighting style tends to be more long distance, characters you actually need to learn and practice how to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for helping me out with this. I've had the game for a year but never really got into it, and I got the inspiration from the Pokkén Tournament DX E3 Invitational to start again. I like evasive characters so I think I'm going to try Weavile. Thanks!
For one, I'm banking on Chandelure atm, but Aegislash is starting to tease me. Hard to hit characters are quite fun to use, though I do enjoy using my brain to wrap around crazy combos. I'll have to decide on these two.
My buddy and I still play this game all the time on battle mode and it is always my Sceptile, Blaziken and Aegislash vs his Garchomp, Gengar and Pik Libre. Always a good fight.
I find it kind of a bit hard to pick a definite main so I tend to go play the new team battles on the switch version however Braixen was my main in the Wii U version so I chose her again for my story mode main.
Its easy to find my main with these simple steps. It can stun it can stun it can stun fast it can use multiple stun attacks it can stun it is fast it can stun stun did i mentiion stun?
I was never into long range characters and I fell in love with using Suicune and Decidueye. Normally I use Suicune, even though I'm still getting good at performing multi-succession combos. I sometimes also use Weavile and Lucario if I want to switch up and do close range. Haven't tried Aegislash yet, heard that one is hard to use.
Originally, I mained Chandelure, but stopped because she was not fun to play with anymore, and I’m pretty sure my opponents were annoyed when playing me too, when looking back at my replays. Now I use Charizard because the combos are rewarding to perform, (stylish too) and there are good combo starters (jab, fire punch, homing attack)
I have only played a couple of times and I found that gardevoirs ranged attacks best suit my play style. Also I like to scream at my brothers when gardevoir slaps em saying “ Gardevoir. Use pimp slap!!!!!”
Braixen is my fav..But in fighting games long range fightiers arent the best for me.. I like to play with quick fighters that can pack quite a bit of damage Like Pichu In smash ultimate. What would be a good pick for me?
I love Gengar but Machamp is my main, though I hardly ever play Machamp in a defensive way, I rush with him, yes I will "block" when I need to but for the most part I rarely need to.
I think Weavile would be my main because it's fast, and sets traps. But I like to be sneaky and powerful- to do a lot of damage, manipulate, confuse, and trap. From what I've seen though, Weavile excels at being fast, doing little damage, is a trapster, and usually gets beat up due to that up close tactic.
Picked gengar because his personality fits mine. Im a real life troll and his s and weird tricky moves just help me mess with my opponents head. Of course optimal gengar is completely different, but I prefer playing the close quarter combat version.
I wanted the most underrated looking character (none of my like... 10 favorites were playable) but Chandy doesn't suit my playstyle at all. I still play him sometimes, but Weavile is quite the qtpie himself. Yay for Miis \o/
Before I just played pikachu without combos but now since i have pokken tournament Dx I study combos to help my competitive side and I had the Wii U version
So if I were to choose my main based on strategy 3, who would be suited for a guy like me who enjoyed playing as Big Band from Skullgirls? (although admitttedly I didn't get too deep into skullgirls, I mostly just played cpu battles since there are only pros who must've spent like 1000hrs plus on the game in online mode) Anyone able to give a legitimate answer?
I picked my main by playstyle, i like fast pace characters so i main weavile. The good thing about choosing by playstyle is that characters can just click (which happened for me so when i started dx i had a 100% win rate for a long period of time.)
I was playing through the story mode as Sceptile only until I finished it and unlocked Mewtwo. Since Mewtwo is one of my all time favorite Pokemon, I though "YO I NEED TO PLAY MEWTWO." Next thing you know, I picked Mewtwo, played around with him, and I never went back. Well.....Until DX came out where now I've gotten a bit more use out of Lucario and where my Boy Scizy is finally in the game. And don't even get me started on Decidueye lol.
I use shadow Mewtwo, and my sis uses Mewtwo. But my starter was lucario (I only use lucario for 5 of the battles), then I switched to Sceptile, it was my main! And Blaziken was my sisters starter.
I managed to complete a battle only in Field Phase. All you have to do is spam Braixen's back-A! Very cool! However, I main Decidueye and can Weavile. 🙂
How I picked my main, did a team battle with Pikachu Libre, garchomp, and shadow Mewtwo, destroyed the three my brother chose, and then the bond with me and Pikachu Libre was formed
i found my first main because i liked that pokemon. i used a different pokemon that i got recomended for a little while. i fought the other pokemon and i tried the other pokemon. thats how i found my new main. wevile
I’m a simple man. I see Sceptile on the character select. I click.
I thought my main would be gengar until I realised how amazing Sceptile is.
I saw lizard and I hit it with a hidey ho let’s go
I don't have the game but when I have it, I will pick Lucario immediately and practice non-stop to master him
I wish I found this video when I first started playing Pokken. Even years later when I’m now playing the DX version, this is still super helpful!
I started playing Gardevoir, she’s one of my fav Pokémon and loved her defensive, zoning play style.
Me:shows me all the pokemon.
Me:goes to Gengar so fast
I used Sceptile first tho
PinkerThinker i use garchomp
TheWoomy27 :ᗪ Did you change?
PinkerThinker nope
TheWoomy27 :ᗪ Why? Is it cuz you just got 0:04
RAICHU... give em' anotha THUNDAH SHAAWWWK!!!
I go by the "Waifu instinct", the most Waifu characters are my mains.
In this case:
Gardevoir
Braixen
Garchomp
Because Gardevoir is a beautiful maid. Braixen is best magical grill and Garchomp is extra T h i c c
*G R I L L* . That was maybe the best accidental joke ever
LennyLog It was intentional. Since fire type and all
lumpy1space2princess Now I am laughing even more cause of that
This person knows the tech for picking characters.
LMAO
Why does this have so few views? This is really well done ^^
Well Pokken is kinda getting old by now but still just 390 views after a month?
Thanks so much man! And actually this is a pretty large number for my channel. Gotta start somewhere I suppose!
ItsMaxey except dx
ItsMaxey I agree
Is it too old yet
If I had any say in the Pokken Tournament DX archetypes, Decidueye and Aegislash would be standard due to their strength in all areas of combat, Scizor is likely evasive due to his better run, hover to bait out and avoid attacks, and quick attacks of his own, not to mention his dash chains. Great to see another video from you man, and a good one at that! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll go far!
Thanks a ton, and thanks for sticking around!
I just started using Decidueye and found he was my best character! WIN!
My main is Kid Cobra go away Min Min *Your name is cancer* .
YOUR WAIFU IS TRASH
Whoa whoa whoa min min, leave the WAIFU's outta this!!
KASS IS DADDY
@@James-pb7kr Kass? I like Kass too
I really appreciate you dude, I'm a kind of player who watches top players with a character in a fighting game to learn and improve so I appreciate that you put people to watch at the end for a certain character, I want to say they are the best with that certain character buy I'm mew to the pokken community so I dont want to assume but thanks this really helped! :)
*Tests scizor
*throws a few punches
SORTED FOR LIFE XD
My top four I might pick are aegislash Empoleon charizard or blastoise
About gosh darn time. You kept blabbing about this on your streams.
Anyways, glad to see content is back!
Lol yeah it took a bit too long, but oh well it's here. :)
My strategy is to watch the animations for each character's Burst attack and pick the Pokémon with the coolest one. For me, it's gotta be Gengar!
Thanks a lot man, but could you give me more information about the defensive characters? I want to know them all
The grueling selection process I went through on my first boot up:
Select your po-*LUCARIO!!!*
I originally just picked Mewtwo because it was the only fighter you actually had to unlock, and it turns out it fit my play style really well!
Do you have an updated list with all the released pokémon on it
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO! It's been 3,000 years since the last VIDEO and great topic Dale! Personally I pick a character If I have emotional attachment. Like I main Pit in SSB4 because I love his game. Glad to see you enjoyed it! I'm glad to see the video helped you out too!

Turns out I got lucky and picked a top 3 character ;P
Thanks man! I did the same thing, but man I couldn't play sceptile. Really wish I could though!
Thanks for this video, really well done. It was well explained and displayed, and the strategy for differing play styles was certainly the most helpful for me.
*puts machamp at defensive*
Me: *ignores and slams opponents brain into the ground*
I picked Mewtwo first, then I kinda merged into a Shadow Mewtwo main.

That's My Story!
That's also my sister's story!
I personally did Shadow Mewtwo as I’ve never seen him before his grab attack in burst when he slams you on the ground then summons a beam is OP
I like frog. Frog funny
How I did it:
1. Closed eyes
2. Randomly picked braixen
3. checked tier list
4. ok
Thanks for the help! I’ve decided to main Suicune, with Empoleon as my secondary. :)
I've picked weavile and lurcario.
Does anyone know the link to the discord for those characters? :)
I love weavile
I picked those two also man!
I maxed out both lucario and servile as soon as I got the game
Weavile
To add on with the new 6 (soon 7) characters for dx, I'd classify Darkrai and Empoleon as pressure, Scizor as Defensive Croagunk as Evasive, and Decidueye as Standerd, and Ageislash as Defensive too
I'm bringing back weavile from the wii u version and making decidueye my secondary
I am the other way around. Surprising! 😃
SKDale:Who will i choose? Me:Toxic Pea
I'm going to be getting the game soon. My fighting style tends to be more long distance, characters you actually need to learn and practice how to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?
is it a good idea to try other standerds? because mine is braxen
How do you find your dessert.?
Very great video I really wanted a list for every pokemon and the national players excelling in tournaments. Subbed!
Thank you for helping me out with this. I've had the game for a year but never really got into it, and I got the inspiration from the Pokkén Tournament DX E3 Invitational to start again. I like evasive characters so I think I'm going to try Weavile. Thanks!
Also, I started off with Lucario so I'm pretty sure I'll keep him as a secondary
That's awesome man! Hope weavile works out for you!
What do you think about Scizor?
Don’t forget! Chandalure is also a Zoner.
Omg you deserve WAYYY more subs then you have you are such a good youtuber i love your channel
Is it okay I don't have mains in fighting games?
Sup bro! SorryTag here. Just saying that this was a really good video and to keep doing this and working on anything you deem improvable!
Thanks man, appreciate it!
I’m a Gengar one-trick who hasn’t gotten into any other Pokémon.
I now find it impossible to adapt to anything else😂😂😂😂😂
For one, I'm banking on Chandelure atm, but Aegislash is starting to tease me. Hard to hit characters are quite fun to use, though I do enjoy using my brain to wrap around crazy combos. I'll have to decide on these two.
My buddy and I still play this game all the time on battle mode and it is always my Sceptile, Blaziken and Aegislash vs his Garchomp, Gengar and Pik Libre. Always a good fight.
Where would you fit the Pokken DX characters (Darkrai, Empoleon, Croagunk, Scizor, and Decidueye) in your custom categories here?
I don't think he will make another video to explain that because it's only 5 more characters
I find it kind of a bit hard to pick a definite main so I tend to go play the new team battles on the switch version however Braixen was my main in the Wii U version so I chose her again for my story mode main.
Its easy to find my main with these simple steps.

Thanks!
I love Gengar but Machamp is my main, though I hardly ever play Machamp in a defensive way, I rush with him, yes I will "block" when I need to but for the most part I rarely need to.
Because Machamp 2-shots anything that's in front of him.
"we can take out chandelure and gardevoir"me just spamming A:
I think Weavile would be my main because it's fast, and sets traps.

Where’s the Suicune leak anyone?
Chandalure for the MEME BEAM
I was a blaziken main but now I am a aegislash main because they are both my favorite Pokémon

If that's your personality, then you might consider switching (no pun intended) to Croagunk. He is a much bigger troll than Gengar.
I wanted the most underrated looking character (none of my like... 10 favorites were playable) but Chandy doesn't suit my playstyle at all. I still play him sometimes, but Weavile is quite the qtpie himself.
Yay for Miis \o/
Love weavile
Croagunk is the most bland, it never evolved
blaziken with the wombo combos
haha ive loyaled lucario since release and i still in dx never looked back
Before I just played pikachu without combos but now since i have pokken tournament Dx I study combos to help my competitive side and I had the Wii U version
sorry, my playstyle is always the same. Mash everything and hope it works (Except for charizard where I mash everything and use Xdown Aup)
i tried sceptile he was not good for me so i would use lucario or decidueye
I found 2 mons that can act as my mains. Decidueye and Scizor. and I cant decide between the two.
What about suicune
Gengar fits my playing style, plus my favourite type is Ghost.
Great video! Just subbed 😁
I always liked Chandelure, mostly from Pokepark 2. She ended up working perfectly in Pokken...haven't played DX ever, though.
I tried a few, but upon using Suicune, I immediately felt like that was the way to go.
I picked my main by playstyle, i like fast pace characters so i main weavile. The good thing about choosing by playstyle is that characters can just click (which happened for me so when i started dx i had a 100% win rate for a long period of time.)
Gengar's my favorite Pokemon. GUESS WHO I MAIN
Liaminator braxien
No, it's Pikachu Libre.

I mained Gengar on my first play through
Isnt scizor in this game?
Shamika Gadre Gune this video was made before Pokken DX was announced so the new characters in that game naturally wouldn't be in this video
Pokken Tournament DX releases five months later, lol
Thx I already choose my Main
(And you know what it is...)
I CHOOSE BRAIXEN! ^^
Cause can love anything than Braixen ^^
I could work with Evasive and Projectile characters
I liek sceptile, it can juggle with bullet seed
This was very helpful
My main is Pikachu Libre. I just like the speed of it.
I used strategy one and got scrptile but funny enough it fit me perfectly and I’m extremely good at it
Spoiler in DX croagunks is a character instead of greninja
I mean, I know my main
yet to fight any real people but not counting shadow mewtwo stomping me after I pass advancement tests I'm undefeated
I love darkrai and garchomp and scissor
I started with Suicune and still main him
Thx. I finally found out my main which is pikachu libre
I managed to complete a battle only in Field Phase. All you have to do is spam Braixen's back-A! Very cool! However, I main Decidueye and can Weavile. 🙂
My main is Garchomp but I also like to play Gengar and Sceptile
How I picked my main, did a team battle with Pikachu Libre, garchomp, and shadow Mewtwo, destroyed the three my brother chose, and then the bond with me and Pikachu Libre was formed
i found my first main because i liked that pokemon. i used a different pokemon that i got recomended for a little while. i fought the other pokemon and i tried the other pokemon. thats how i found my new main. wevile
Lucario all the way
I picked weavile, I'm not very good with him, but he's very fun. Now I just need to be able to play good at fighting games
