To think after some memes, and Japan being 5/8 of the Top 8, Sonix became the unsung hero of the Tournament The crowd actually cheered for him and on top of that, it’s Luminosity’s first ever Major win! NA successfully defended the event from Japan. Good shit Sonix

As soon as Sparg0 got eliminated, I knew for sure that Sonix was going to win the Tournament. Sparg0 is the only one who can truly stop Sonix when he is playing at his best.

The majority were already assuming that Japan was going to take the tournament after having had a lot of their players reach top 8. "NA washed". "EZ dub for Miya". "Acola takes this easy". And yet, NA's Sonix mopped the floor with Acola and gave Miya 7 of his 8 tournament game losses. Really makes you wonder if Acola and Miya would win as much, if they competed in NA.
They most definitely would not, the results of Acola and Miya in NA prove this fairly easily. As much as people like to claim JP is the better region, nearly every Super Major where both regions peak talent is present, a player from NA wins out in the end. It's actually crazy how many options Sonic has thanks to this mobility. And I didn't know most of them until watching Sonix because he's the only one using them. The guy's mastery of his character is insane. I hope we see these two play more often, they had incredible sets & adaptations.

I was rooting for Miya, but I can't deny that Sonix maintained his composure extremely well. So many of these games were one or two interactions away from having a different winner. I can't imagine how stressful it is to play! The winner's final was pretty dominant from Sonix, but the grand final was down to the last stock every single game if I'm not mistaken. I think this player matchup will be a coin flip, like Sparg0-Sonix.
Sonix will become the best player in the world next year. He was already at the level but had terrible chokes in the past. Now, he's overcome that mental hurdle and he's beating the best players consistently and winning P-tier events, at times making it look easy as well.
I'm Japanese, but looking at the comments here, I laugh at how important it is to have a regional bracket decided by others. Sonix is the strongest, that's all.
As someone who followed Sonix since the Smash 4 days (back when his biggest threat was Sharpyzard within his own region, good times), I feel so happy that he defended NA from Japan. He's always been known as a lab rat and it's that dedication that has put him into the conversation for best player in the world. I don't care about what others think about how he plays, I love seeing his neutral play just as much as the combo game and edgeguards. Arriba RD!!! Arriba Sonix!!!

Sonix kinda played like a homie, man might play methodically but i wouldn’t say its boring/lame so it doesn’t surprise me when with the stigma of the few chars (steve, gnw, etc) get beat by a slower playstyle especially with how well hes been playing

The current meta is so bad. There were so many hype sets and hype characters in this tournament who could've created an amazing top 8 but instead we were left off with 2 Sonics, Steve and Game and Watch. I really didn't care about the top 8 anymore at that point

Aegis foresight was broken and got nerfed to a more acceptable state. Joker was nerfed like 3 times because of Leo. Banjo is not viable, Hero is not consistent, Terry needs a bit of a nerf with some of his hitboxes, Sephiroth sucks a lot, Sora is really bad and they should've buffed Pirahna PLant

The whole set was basically “you cant obliterate with your advantage state! Im the fastest thing alive!” “you cant obliterate me with your combo game! Im the mashiest thing alive!”
I wish someone like Charles or Scabs were commentating the TOP4 matches, they can do even slower sets justice and keep things going. It mostly felt like TK and EE were just joking around and definitely weren’t at the top of their game. They clearly did not enjoy what they were watching, which is fine, everyone has their preferences, but I don’t think commentators should let it affect their output this much.

Entertainment value is also completely subjective, I personally really enjoy watching the very methodical and patient play from players like Sonix, Miya, and Dabuz. That said, Charles has been talking about “cutting the fat” when it comes to Ultimate matches, and he’s been in the talks with TOs about the match timer. Probably looking to changing it from 7 minutes to 6 minutes, at least for a starter. I think it’s a good idea.

Sonix is a lot more hype than he used to be, it was also not helping his case when he used to SD with one of the best recovery characters in the game, a LOT. Ken is still hated because he’s just old sonix in terms of gameplay, but I definitely agree with you that the crowd cheers for him more, but not really in the way you think. There would be a lot more people cheering for the opponent if the opponent wasn’t G&W.

The current meta is so bad. There were so many hype sets and hype characters in this tournament who could've created an amazing top 8 but instead we were left off with 2 Sonics, Steve and Game and Watch. I really didn't care about the top 8 anymore at that point

Aegis foresight was broken and got nerfed to a more acceptable state. Joker was nerfed like 3 times because of Leo. Banjo is not viable, Hero is not consistent, Terry needs a bit of a nerf with some of his hitboxes, Sephiroth sucks a lot, Sora is really bad and they should've buffed Pirahna PLant

My turn, objectively it is boring to watch. Especially because of SpinDash clangs with every move and is safe on shield, so much that within 10 seconds Sonix spams 3 times empty spindashes on his own position at ledge to bait opponents. There is literally no punishment for it, all whiff punishments are misinputs from Sonix. If Sonix plays safe he literally cannot lose.

I wish someone like Charles or Scabs were commentating the TOP4 matches, they can do even slower sets justice and keep things going. It mostly felt like TK and EE were just joking around and definitely weren’t at the top of their game. They clearly did not enjoy what they were watching, which is fine, everyone has their preferences, but I don’t think commentators should let it affect their output this much.
I would normally agree but Sonix destroying the entertainment value of the game needs to be addressed l.
@@AndreasSaag Both of these players are just trying to win and put in the work to do so. Entertainment value is also completely subjective, I personally really enjoy watching the very methodical and patient play from players like Sonix, Miya, and Dabuz.
That said, Charles has been talking about “cutting the fat” when it comes to Ultimate matches, and he’s been in the talks with TOs about the match timer. Probably looking to changing it from 7 minutes to 6 minutes, at least for a starter. I think it’s a good idea.

sonix has upgraded his gameplays he became aggressive yes he was a camper or the player with the biggest patience on the game. He got that patience and became aggressive in the meaning of capitalizing mistakes.
He still is the player with the biggest patience in the game. He prolly realized his character can get away with almost anything on shield, that's why he is more offensive at times.

Another comment said “this is the first and only time people will cheer for sonic timeouts” which is pretty much true, probably not the only time, but a very rare occurence. Sonix is a lot more hype than he used to be, it was also not helping his case when he used to SD with one of the best recovery characters in the game, a LOT. Ken is still hated because he’s just old sonix in terms of gameplay, but I definitely agree with you that the crowd cheers for him more, but not really in the way you think. There would be a lot more people cheering for the opponent if the opponent wasn’t G&W.
