IF Movie Review - It Lacks Imagination

- IF Movie Review - IF is a new film by John Krasinski and a far cry from the Quiet Place films. IF is a kid's movie that attempts to tug at the heartstrings while providing some laughs along the way. I don't think it succeeded at doing either.

We need an Awkwafina rant haha. Adam’s arch nemesis. I love it 😂
AGREED! The rant MUST happen!!
This is gonna mislead into Asian-Hate isnt it😵
got my popcorn ready
Aquafina is super annoying, she ruined Jumanji and Shang Chi.
Thought she actually worked in those films, she did a better DeVito than The Rock did in Jumanji
@@mk6rfc1 She wasn't needed, they shouldn't have used that plot at all and kept it like the first Jumanji. As far as Shang chi, for an origin story, it failed, too much Katie and his sister and not enough Shang Chi. The flash back scenes of him being a young boy/teen learning to fight were better than the movie we got. The 3rd act was terrible. Katie became an expert archer after 5 minutes. I don't buy her as his love interest. But the MCU loves comedy, so they got Aquafina.
@@kicknowledgesmith8608 eh if it was the exact same as the jumanji before it then it would have felt repetitive, I liked the angle they went for in the sequel to keep it fresh
with shang-chi, she wasn’t the love interest and that was what was cool about it. she was slightly odd with the archer angle considering they introduced another “katy” a few months later that is meant to be our main new mcu archer but the perfect hit in the third act is just a whatever thing with a film about dragons. i do think the movie as a whole wasn’t as strong as previous mcu movies character wise but it was fine compared to say love and thunder or quantumania
@@mk6rfc1 Jumanji would have been fine without that weird body switching story line and I agree about Shang Chi being better than Love and Thunder and Quantomania but those are low bars.
Honestly I’ve been a little weirded out about how many roles she been getting lately. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure she’s a nice person and I’m sure she’s trying her best, she did pretty good in “The Bad Guys”, I just find weird how she’s been getting so many roles lately. For most of the a lot of her roles, you could replace her with anyone else and nothing would be lost about the characters she plays.
Drop dead fred did a WAY job of exploring IF's.
Sure but DDF was definitely for adults. I can see how he is trying to make this for both adults and children
I love Foster's, great series. It already thoroughly and brilliantly explored this concept.
Honestly I mistook Imaginary for IF and thought it was two different trailers for 1 movie, I didn't plan to watch either.
Which two movies??
I had a talkative kid behind me...and then Phoebe Waller Bridge's character showed up....I couldn't take both...so I had to leave.
You’re probably right about him ripping from Fosters home. There’s literally a character named Blue just like the show
I forgot to mention The Amazing World of Gumball. The characters had a very similar concept to that show too, with the different art styles.
I wasn't going to see this, but then holy shit, you mentioned Awkwafina is in this!!! Instant selling point for me. No spoilers, but I really hope she has a singing part like Scuttle. Gonna go buy my ticket, hope they're available.
Hahahaha.
Unfortunately, her time is very limited. Only a few lines of dialogue but it's enough to put her stamp on the film.
😂
Don’t diss off Sharkboy & Lavagirl, it’s a cult trash
I adored the Foster's Home series as a kid. Have no interest in seeing this film though.
IDK I am just not all that interested in this one here. If I had kids maybe I would watch it on streaming or maybe as a single man I will see it on streaming if I feel like it, or not, this just didn't look so great. As a side note, a good and underrated family film is Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium. It was very solid.
Alvin Valkenheiser:
Go Ahead There, Folks.
Fix Yerself Up A Couple Ah Dogs
You know ill give it this, at least it tries to be “one of those kids movies that emphasize or understands children’s minds”, rather than the usual iPad, Lankyboyx, SpiderFrozen shit we see often.
(too bad that ain’t going away 😢)
Yay Adam!
I love films and TV shows made primarily for children that adults can enjoy too. It takes a special creator who can satisfy both niches simultaneously. Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is a great example. Avatar The Last Airbender the animated series is also excellent.
The Last Airbender is incredible. One of my family's favorite shows! Kora was pretty great, too!
I think Im good without. Bogus and Drop Dead Fred already did it.
Just saw this yesterday and didn’t know that M. Night Shyamalan was a writer for this film.
The movie poster annoyed me enough, very derivative and Ryan Reynolds is of course in it seems like the safest choice.
There was something off about the direction & performances. Something was kinda creepy about it just under the surface...like with Polar Express.
Surprised he was even given an opportunity to produce considering the last several seasons of The Office.
Why would that have stopped him from producing?
@@doc8013 reputation matters a lot in Hollywood film making.
@@bryandavismoviefan but what about producing those last seasons would've given him a bad reputation?
@@doc8013they suck. I watch the office religiously and when Michael leaves, I start the series over again. Haven’t seen those last seasons since I first saw them. That’s how he would’ve gotten a bad rep. They aren’t good
@@alexateachey9680 the last seasons without Michael are nowhere near as good as the seasons when he's there. But they were still better than most things on TV. This narrative that the last seasons without Steve Carell were atrocious are just not true.
The grandma sucked at taking care of the girl. The girl went out and I don’t think grandma ever questioned her about where she was.
I can't stand Awkwafina either. I don't get why she gets so much work? What's her appeal?
It would be like if Gilbert Gottfried did the Iago voice in 80% of the animated movies that came out around that time. Once was a good fit. Everything else would be absolute overkill!
I'd even argue Gottfried was a better singer than Awkwafina...
When he did it, it felt charming in a goofy way, when she does it, it's just dreadful.
Guess it boils down to one being an experienced and talented actor, and the other....well, just being Awkwafina. Just kinda showed up one day, now she's here to stay.
He was a legend
watch The Farewell, she proved she has dramatic chops
Imagine if a movie came out where she wasn't injected with soooo much damn positivity and yayness to the point where you are going to be sick? Maybe a drama, maybe a horror.. kinda shakes off that Disney wrapper that most actors under Disney get.
I hate Ryan Reynolds.
He plays the same character in everything he does...
Like Nicholas Cage, Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington
@@Nirual none of those actors are the same type of annoying quirky
Most actors who are successful, usually become just their own persona.
@@NirualNic Cage and Denzel belong nowhere near that category.
sawe this last night. wasnt a fan
Me neither.
It looked bland basic and underwhelming so not surprised
Wait what awkhafina was super annoying in this? She only had 2 scenes of dialogue and she was alright
I don't know if I can take it it looks so goofy
Do more out of theater reactions with bluss
Glad you knew that this looks like a rip off of fosters home for imaginary friends
Krasinski can’t be 3 for 3 cos he actually directed 2 films before the first A Quiet Place
You're right, I just looked it up. I've never heard of The Hollars.
Didn't hate it, didn't love it, should of waited for streaming
So this film should be called 'Off'...
So does this video.
The movie was cute but that’s kinda it… I barely laughed while watching it. I will say as someone who’s not a Reynolds fan he does basically play the same character he also does… but less annoying.
Nope ! Don’t like animation and kids movies unless it is something like Up or Finding Nemo 😂😂😂
Love fosters home
This movie was pretty boring for me. I probably checked to see what time it was like 10 times while watching this movie.
I think Adam is so ready to rip things he misses the heart of this thing. Next time watch it WITH your kids and watch them as they watch, and oh yeah, have a heart to feel what the adults are going through. Since when do movies have to "surprise" ? Allow yourself to feel Adam! Lol jk i enjoyed it with the kids though
You may have missed the part of the review where I talked about the attempts at drama. It just didn't land for me. My kids had no interest in watching it. We recently watched Marcel the Shell with Shoes on. THAT one nailed the emotion. I cried manly tears several times.
@@AdamDoesMovies I see many of your points I wonder if it's just the moment I'm in in life that happened to tug at my heartstrings LOL
It looks terrible. I dunno
Sounds terrible no thanks.
Yay Adam
This movie sounds awful. 👍
