    I agree with Alex‘s detailed comment regarding the finish on this watch. At that price point, there had better be some brushing and some chamfers and some polished highlights. I would just add that if it isn’t a sports watch they have to shave down the diameter and lug to lug. If I’m going to wear this to work I don’t want it to ride over my wrists and just look gaudy. I can still show off the beautiful dial if it is 39 x 46.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah fair point about the size… given that the bezel itself is really only 38mm, I’m pretty sure they could’ve made this smaller and still preserved the wrist presence.

    Thanks Ivan for this exploration, it’s a style of ‘grand-swatch’, art dial with a good movement in a generic display case, good for conversation!
    I guess MJW let’s the artist do the talking, without the enhancing the case/strap to support the artists dial.
    For the price it’s limited edition handmade dial is appropriate, but if the story was laser etched on the caseback circumference, with a ‘made in England’ art leather strap, as an art-piece Watch I’d be interested.
    This is a little bit “Undone” (watch) style playing for a collectors Kulcha niche…. 👍🏻

    I got this watch on the premise that I have a Citizen Skyhawk that's about the same size - it shouldn't be too bad, right?
    Wrong. The Citizen wears smaller because the dial is smaller.
    Also not a big fan of the black strap they ship it with - I replaced it with a blue cordovan to better match the watch.
    However, because it just looks like a picture on your wrist it does come across as a bit smaller than it is.
    The lack of lume and the thickness definitely makes this a short sleeve summer watch.
    And one day when I have more money to waste I might look into refitting this to a smaller case.
    Edit: I should add that I bought this with a £120 discount voucher. Otherwise it would have been a more difficult prospect.

    Yup. It is an interesting watch. And as you said, the dial work is absolutely fantastic and I certainly do not mind about the cost of the watch (only if they make some improvements, ha ha). The dial design is intriguing and can not take my eyes off the artwork. But other than that, everything else is so generic and plain that it just seems like someone put that wonderful dial design into a rather cheap Chinese case & strap.
    It is like a beautiful fashion runway style woman with Costco sweater & pants. I strongly believe that if a watch is going to have that kind of dial, all other parts of the watch must keep up with the design. the Case is not really interesting and the location of the crown requires that you have to take your watch off to set the time. All too shiny case will be scratched and looks dirty very soon. I truly hate the big black, none-stylized letters, on the middle of see thru case back (which hampers the entire look of the movement and just kills the symmetry of the design work. They should have engrave the name, logo...etc around the metal case back. The strap got to go. It does not work with the watch at all. They must use or invent something way more unique than what they are using (so as the buckle, yuck!). Some engraved artwork with some highlight colors on the strap (front & back) which will match with the dial design.
    As for the lack of lume, I think that if they put a healthy dose of light yellow lume (like Gold sand lume from Ginault) on the dots of hour & min, that would give extra uniqueness & practicality to the watch (one more selling point) yet it won't hurt the integrity of the artwork of the dial at all. If they really really want to go extra miles for something unique, they can make the rotating second eye dots with SELF POWERED LUMINOSITY (like Ball watch), so that it would glow as the second passes thru the eye. Yep. Kind of far out, but this MJM watch is bit far out anyway and if they want to do it right, they should go all the way.
    Since it has a see-thru back casing, they should dress up the rotor with their artwork. Engraving takes up too much money, at least, some sort of painted artwork? And since the watch is just too big and you can really see the unnecessary real-estate around the movement. Just too plain and it begs for something to be there... The watch does not have to be that big and it can be 40mm and that would make the watch more elegant and easy to look at.
    As I said before, the artwork is fantastic. But who wants to see a beautiful face girl with a grandma brown loose sweater with beige cargo short??? Thanks a lot Ivan for an interesting yet frustrating piece. have a great day.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 роки тому +1

      Awesome comment Alex! A lot of good thoughts there!
      I agree with many of this, including the need for a more unique & interesting strap, and that they might've engraved details around the periphery of the case back rather than print on the glass (although the movement isn't that interesting to start with). I love the idea of incorporating something like Gold Sand Lume into the artwork, that idea alone is worth something and great feedback to MJW!
      Using tritium gas tube lume for the bird eyes is also a cool idea although in practice not executable since these do not come in a dot shape which would be needed.
      As for the case, personally I don't mind it being plain... in fact I am willing to credit it as deliberate given that you want the focus to be on the artwork. Like when setting a beautiful pearl, you don't want to make the setting to busy to detract from it. Or to take your analogy, if looking at someone beautiful like Nicole Kidman (just my opinion) it wouldn't matter what she was wearing, and some outfit would even detract.
      Cheers man!
