Got my newly released second edition copy of Picket Duty from Legion Games today. Had to come back and watch Joe's video to immerse myself in the game as only he can describe it. Now if I can just get my hands on a copy of Raid on St. Nazaire; the topic of my all-time favorite Stuka Joe produced video. Thank-you for making this hobby exciting.
I bought the 2nd Edition (delivers next week) on the strength of your detailed play through. I have watched another hour of your videos to see what else I have missed.
A most interesting and informative video. Much impressed by your knowledge of the game. Picket Duty is obviously a somewhat complex game, which demands a great deal of thought from the player. However like most complex games, if the rules can be mastered, then one generally finds a very absorbing battle situation, probably with "battle fatigue" on the part of the player. Incidentally I was pleased to note my namesake, Evans, did his bit to keep the destroyer afloat.
Ray Evans Thanks, Ray. I was fortunate that I was able to correspond with the designer, Steve Dixon, to make sure I had some of the game mechanics right. And yes, your namesake performed well under pressure!
My thanks and a big salute to you, Stuka Joe. Your video helped my learning curve tremendously to learn quickly to how to play Picket Duty. Keep up the great work.
Thank you, Exit Only. That's why I like making these videos. They can be helpful to people who want to learn the game, so the video remains relevant for a long time. My pleasure.
Tried playing with rules 1.0 and just had no fun at all as the original rules were somewhat broken. After watching this excellent video I'm definitely going to download rules 2.0 and give it another go. Thanks Stuka Joe!
Just watched your video for the second time and I followed through on your playthrough doing the game and it made my game that I did after that so much easier. thank you thank you thank you for your video. excellent video as always sir.
Another well made video! A labor of love it would seem to me. Very entertaining and informative. Thanks for the work you put into the making of the video and thanks for sharing it with us! Later...
@@StukaJoe yes the best I have seen on youtube. Totally impressed with your professionalism and you really make these board games ennjoyable to want to play. I am hoping to see target for today, target for tonight , b-29 ... Also have you ever done the lock n load . I first go tiy your site to help make my mind up.
Good job, Jose:) I was originally luke-warm on this game in my original review with the original rules. One of these days I'll have to get it on the table again with the 2.0 rules.
Thanks, Derek. I was fortunate in being able to communicate with the designer while I was putting the video together, he clarified some doubts I had with a couple of rules. I hope that your second try at the game is more rewarding than the first. After all, there aren't many kamikaze games out there. Well, who knows ... maybe one day DVG will publish "Kamikaze Leader", where you can play a full campaign in under 5 minutes!! Cheers, my friend.
Thank you very much for this amazing video Joe. I was intrigued by this title. The game graphics are awesome too. However, watching you play through a turn showed me that the game is probably too process heavy/pedantic for my taste. It came across to me as a lot of work versus an enjoyable playing experience.
I understand completely. That's exactly the purpose of showing the game being played. Its more helpful to decide whether the game's right or not for someone. Glad it was helpful for you to make your decision. Cheers, Joe
Great video! On the basis of this I want to buy this game...... thoughts on compartment hits......there seems to be no opportunity for fires to GROW/get worse..... 2. I would think surface fire support and air support would have to fire Before ships guns fire as the enemy planes must fly through all that before reaching the ship...no?
This is the greatest tutorial of this game ever. You made it look so easy with the sequence of explanations wow man! Just amazing.
I read the rules twice. But how much I missed, I only learned when I watched this great video! Thank you! Everything fell into place!

Thanks Stuka Joe!
This design would work well for a "sink the bismark" type of scenario as well. You play as the bismark fighting the allied ships and aircraft.
Yes. I think it could work well with the Bismarck. Good point!
