In the summer of 2014, Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth Games, which was seen at the time as a real success.
The city has now entered the race to stage it again - in 2026. It was supposed to be the Australian state of Victoria's turn to host, but they pulled out amid rising costs. If no other venue is found, Glasgow is on standby to step in.
