Alternative devices : There is also the spectre Fold and asus is bringing out an alternative next week at CES conference.
The biggest problem with this device is the virtual keyboard. its not customizable. you can't set any key colors, key fonts, you can't change the layout to AZERTY or another layout. You can't create custom buttons (micros)

Hi Jesse, are you in the U.S.? and 16 Gb of ram is enough for your daily usage?

    • @jessevanro
      @jessevanro  3 дні тому +1

Not in the USA, I am in Europe (Belgium)
16 gb is for sure enough for daily usage.
But it's still just 16 ram,
Video editing, Photoshop and sometimes stock trading is not as fast as I like it to be, but for sure manageable.
With my laptop, I can do basic vidoe editing with resonable editing. For some more asvenced video editing. Definitely not possible.
I can run my trading software, + use two extra screens every day. It works, no problem (let's say it works perfect 80% of the time)
My conclusion: it's like buying an underpowered racecar. It's damn great if you just need to get around, but once you start racing you will feel the lack of power.
I would like to see the laptop with the new ARM semiconductors. Not sure if, and when thst will happen

@@abcdef7660 just looked at the specs,
They are significant better on Asus.
Better cpu + more ram + double the refresh rate and it's cheaper (in Europe at least)
Also, when used as a laptop. Asus wins.
Logically it's a no brainer to choose Asus.
But, Asus don't have the best reputation for warranty claims. (search usus, warranty on yt)
With lenovo, unfamiliar with their reputation.
Lenovo looks way better and the screens can fully turn 360, so you can use it as a tablet and if you install the Google play store, you have a real tablet. Damn useful turning of the screens.
I want the asus specs in the lenovo laptop.

@@abcdef7660 the thing, I need windows for software I use. It doesn't work on mac. If I didn't need it, I am not sure I would still buy windows.
But let me tell you one thing. Once you get used to 2 screens. It's so convenient. The from factor of this laptop makes it so fun to work on different tasks. I still love the MacOs more than windows, but windows 11 did an incredible job, I costumised it so it feels similar to how I set up my mac. The screens look beautiful, laptop is fast and does everything I need it. The touch screen, I use it more then I expected and the ability to actually write notes and write on images is something I don't want to give up on! Look for example at the reviews on bestbuy, gives you an good indication how people feel after recieving this one. (Still consider the 200% scaling isseu and multiple monitor issue that isn't solved yet).
Now, if you need very powerhungry tasks (editing 4k footage) And want something perfect out of the box, mac will perform better, mac has better speakers, mac is faster, mac has a better battery life, mac is perfectly integrated with IPhone (windows has a surprisingly good integration with android)
So whatever machine you choose, you will be happy! But, if I could choose again and what I needed worked perfectly on mac, I would still choose the yoga book 100% of the time, it's not perfect, but I love the machine.

@jessevanro As do I. The laptop was amazing when it worked. I would absolutely say the machine needs 32gb of ram. I was always hovering around 84%-88% on ram. If I shut down ALL of my programs and only had a few windwos open, I could get it down to around 56% or so. There is a TON of bloatware on this machine. Looking at open programs, those programs are taking up a large swath of ram.

    • @jessevanro

@@steveellsworth2547 Yes I agree, the concept and laptop is amazing!
But it's like riding a Lamborgini with a engine of a regular hatchback. Yet you still pay the premium.
So more ram and a better graphics card would be much appreciated.
Now when editing videos I do notice the lack of power. I did what I could to remove the bloatware, but seeing processes running in the background with that little ram, I am also around 80%
But yes, gen first product. I am excited for the future, the next gen, love the form factor.

@@Osama-wj5gn I'm a vfx artist/digital nomad. Working with 4k footage on 2k monitors sucks. Also, if you do a side by side comparisn of text and images on a 4k and a 2k, you'll never go back to a 2k external again. I also need portability for world traveling.
Currently, I'm rocking 2X C-Force 4k portables, but I'm looking into the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i VS the Asus Zenbook Duo. Screens are a bit small for my taste, so that why I prefer 16 or 17 inch 4k OLED if possible.

@LostAndHangry The thing is, you can't read text on the small 4k monitor without setting scaling to +200% or 300%, which can make a lot of scaling issues in apps as windows scaling isn't perfect (In case you're using windows). But yeah, since you are an artist, i can understand why you'd need 4K.

You are wrong about one tiny thing... This isn't the first generation! Believe it or not this is Lenovo's second go at the concept, but the first time around, they got little fanfare and it was definitely a highly flawed product. I think this second attempt is vastly improved. I think it's a great laptop for artists and creatives as well.

At this stage, there is two big flaws what makes it very annoying to use.
      1. Scaling resets to 200% - I use 150% for trading. Thus you need to use a shortcut, or keep the laptop awake. Unless you like the standard scaling.
      2. Connecting extra monitors might be a hassle as well, just as the scaling resets, where external monitors are places changes.
So, if you don't use external monitor and don't mind that the standard scaling, go for it! It's a great machine. If you also don't mind the workarounds. Also do it, it's a great machine.
If not, better to wait until lenovo fixed these flaws, they promised an update to solve it by the end of December.
