As if DS/GBA game cases never existed and didn't need advertising or info. Why not use a cardboard box (can be reinforced with plastic film) if shelf presence is your concern. As it stands the reasons for having big plastic cases stem from either negligence or the hoarding mentality.

i dont think people realize that you CANT read the back info of the game at all with those small covers. thats really the main issue. if you cant see what the game has to offer then whats the point of even trying to buy it if you dont know what it is lol. and i mean yes we have the internet for a reason but not everyone uses computers/phones so they sorta just have to please everyone
@@Fallen_Pup You could still have a big box for display purposes. Ideally you should be able to go to the counter, pay for it, and decide if you want the big box or the small box.
Imagine storing all your switch games in this, and then having the the largest switch collection and being able to say "I have the biggest and smallest collection in the world" lol
It's not standard copy paper nor a cardstock, it's something in between. It needs a special printer to print these images in such good quality and those definitely don't come cheap or are worth the price for home usage.

@@gabikralj94 i think you're right, you have to use a "photo printer". luckily those have come down in price and one that's definitely large enough for this project can be bought at any store that sells printers - and also Michael's, most of the time. However, what i noticed was that OP printed several copies of each label, and also this isn't exactly a common, repeating usage for a 3D printer, unless you were planning to sell the cases on Etsy or something. OP didn't print out enough for that. I suspect that OP is only making a few cases for friends, and so, printing at a shop for this one-off job is cheaper than sourcing a photo printer and paper and possibly also ink, depending on exactly how intensive each printing is. Fun fact: there's so much ink on photo prints that you can flip the photo onto almost any surface, cover the back with something like mod podge (which is a particular recipe of craft glue), peel off the paper and be left with a clear, reversed photo on your material. It kind of squicked me when I learned that. I no longer like being around photo prints!

I mean these are pretty neat, however everyone's bitching about the regular "oversized" boxes. Y'all don't seem to understand that having large boxes is essential for display purposes in stores. How are they gonna sell such small cartridges if the boxes are barely any bigger ?
Yeah, I agree with everyone but the downfall of small boxes is the fact many people could steal and might attempt it, so there would have to be extra security in gamestop's selling it.
to be fair, the boxes are a lot bigger than ds boxes even though the cartridges are like half the size, i feel like they could have at least made the boxes a little smaller

Not necessarily an issue. Here in Australia all game disks and carts are kept behind the counter with empty cases left out on shelves. Sometimes they simply switch the empty case for the properly packaged case that they have behind the counter. So while your idea works in theory, there are ways around this which means thieves only leave the store with plastic that is probably worth (being generous) $2 aud.

I really like the idea. One thought; this uses fairly expensive self adhesive laminate as well as expensive double sided bond tape. I think Ill make these, but instead laminate the printed sheet with standard 3mm laminate which costs a fraction the cost of the self adhesive laminates and has a glossy finish and adhere with 3M 77 spray adhesive. Should provide a slightly more authentic finish as well a provide a stronger bond!
and it even comes with a space for booklets but no freakin booklets. i miss the good old day, where you still got a booklet to read, with useful info for games. or a little lore in em.
For those who think games should come packaged like this: Looks neat for a keychain, but the point of the case is: 1. Neatly storing and displaying your game collection 2. Not loosing your tiny game cartridge, this case is almost as small as the cartridge so you loose most benefits from the case. I still love the cute tiny boxes, and it's not a criticism, just an opinion.
Don’t forget all the useful information on the back that now you can’t read. :/ I think they could still shorten the height of the Switch game case, but it’s still less plastic than they used with GameCube and Wii.

Honestly, I'd only do this if I get more than eight physical games (the carry case I bought for my switch has room for 7 cards and and a card sized case for two micro SDs) so that I can transport other games with me easier for vacations. Pop-em on keychains and hook those to the carry case, ta-da! Full sized cases are definitely good on the info/storage bits, though, so y'all have that point.
@@_MythicalWolf wrong, it tells you far more than that, like what Switch mode is compatible with, some are not TV compatible, some are not handled compatible, as well download size, etc. If you want portability then just take the cartridge, most switch carrying cases comes with places to store several of them. By using this mini cases you're actually loosing portability, and since you can't fit them inside of the case then you're more likely to loose them.
The only reason why Nintendo makes the cases so big is so it’s not as hard to lose them and easier to see and keep track of it. Plus, it gives them a chance to add some cool art on the inside of the cases. So I personally don’t mind the giant cases.

That's adorable! The reason I think they don't make them like this is because 1) You could pretty much just steal this by hiding it in your pocket and 2) the labels on the back are already really small, and these wouldn't even be readable. Those labels are actually important because sometimes there are epilepsy warnings.

It's not standard copy paper nor a cardstock, it's something in between. It needs a special printer to print these images in such good quality and those definitely don't come cheap or are worth the price for home usage.
@@gabikralj94 I'm pretty sure our printer would be able to print these just fine. Add some thicker paper and voilà 🤷🏻♀️ I wasn't judging thought I just found it funny 😂
@@gabikralj94 i think you're right, you have to use a "photo printer". luckily those have come down in price and one that's definitely large enough for this project can be bought at any store that sells printers - and also Michael's, most of the time.
However, what i noticed was that OP printed several copies of each label, and also this isn't exactly a common, repeating usage for a 3D printer, unless you were planning to sell the cases on Etsy or something. OP didn't print out enough for that. I suspect that OP is only making a few cases for friends, and so, printing at a shop for this one-off job is cheaper than sourcing a photo printer and paper and possibly also ink, depending on exactly how intensive each printing is.
Fun fact: there's so much ink on photo prints that you can flip the photo onto almost any surface, cover the back with something like mod podge (which is a particular recipe of craft glue), peel off the paper and be left with a clear, reversed photo on your material. It kind of squicked me when I learned that. I no longer like being around photo prints!

Yeah, I agree with everyone but the downfall of small boxes is the fact many people could steal and might attempt it, so there would have to be extra security in gamestop's selling it.
to be fair, the boxes are a lot bigger than ds boxes even though the cartridges are like half the size, i feel like they could have at least made the boxes a little smaller

They're less large and thinner so it compensates the height of the box

The packaging is big for security reasons. It’s harder to steal something the size of a small book rather than a container of mints or gum.

Not necessarily an issue. Here in Australia all game disks and carts are kept behind the counter with empty cases left out on shelves. Sometimes they simply switch the empty case for the properly packaged case that they have behind the counter.
So while your idea works in theory, there are ways around this which means thieves only leave the store with plastic that is probably worth (being generous) $2 aud.
but they could put small ones inside so you could have an option for miniature or normal

The reason they probably don’t package it like this is, because their games are freaking expensive and they want you to think you are getting something worth your money, by increasing the size of the package.
Actually, the larger package is so game info can be included on the back, but I do agree it could be a bit smaller.
Or maybe because it looks more like a toy rather than an actual game case?

I really like the idea. One thought; this uses fairly expensive self adhesive laminate as well as expensive double sided bond tape. I think Ill make these, but instead laminate the printed sheet with standard 3mm laminate which costs a fraction the cost of the self adhesive laminates and has a glossy finish and adhere with 3M 77 spray adhesive. Should provide a slightly more authentic finish as well a provide a stronger bond!
The normal Switch case is comedically large compared to the game card
and it even comes with a space for booklets but no freakin booklets.
i miss the good old day, where you still got a booklet to read, with useful info for games.

For those who think games should come packaged like this:
Looks neat for a keychain, but the point of the case is:
1. Neatly storing and displaying your game collection
2. Not loosing your tiny game cartridge, this case is almost as small as the cartridge so you loose most benefits from the case.
I still love the cute tiny boxes, and it's not a criticism, just an opinion.
Don’t forget all the useful information on the back that now you can’t read. :/ I think they could still shorten the height of the Switch game case, but it’s still less plastic than they used with GameCube and Wii.

Honestly, I'd only do this if I get more than eight physical games (the carry case I bought for my switch has room for 7 cards and and a card sized case for two micro SDs) so that I can transport other games with me easier for vacations. Pop-em on keychains and hook those to the carry case, ta-da! Full sized cases are definitely good on the info/storage bits, though, so y'all have that point.
@@_MythicalWolf wrong, it tells you far more than that, like what Switch mode is compatible with, some are not TV compatible, some are not handled compatible, as well download size, etc.
If you want portability then just take the cartridge, most switch carrying cases comes with places to store several of them. By using this mini cases you're actually loosing portability, and since you can't fit them inside of the case then you're more likely to loose them.

The only reason why Nintendo makes the cases so big is so it’s not as hard to lose them and easier to see and keep track of it. Plus, it gives them a chance to add some cool art on the inside of the cases. So I personally don’t mind the giant cases.

The reason I think they don't make them like this is because 1) You could pretty much just steal this by hiding it in your pocket and 2) the labels on the back are already really small, and these wouldn't even be readable. Those labels are actually important because sometimes there are epilepsy warnings.

I don’t even keep my cartridge games in their actual cases, so I wouldn’t mind something like this at all! I just store them in a carrying case, since it saves some hassle.
