If you use a fabric like vinyl, and then line it with a cheap flimsy foam, they can hold up to about 5-7 pounds, and if they are treated well, they can last forever practically. If you do use foam, glue the fabric (or whatever) over it first, and then fold it together and glue the sides down.
a placemat is the normally rectangular piece of foam or fabric or cardboard that people put their plates on whilst eating, normally to prevent damage to the table x

I had the darndest time, finding fabric placemats, and finally Family Dollar was a success, and found fabric glue that works GREAT! TFS
