Live stream of the Mass and Rite of Dedication for the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville, TN was celebrated on Saturday, March 3, at noon. Prelates and clergy from around the nation and the world, and clergy, deacons, and religious men and women from the Diocese of Knoxville, joined Bishop Richard F. Stika, Cardinal Justin Rigali, and Father David Boettner in celebrating this historic 3 hour Mass.
Beautiful and traditional construction as it should be AND the altar railings are in place. There is hope.
They won’t use the altar rails because Bishop Rick Sitka dosent like the Latin mass
But I agree with you. The Latin mass is so beautiful

Hallelujah! The design of the new Cathedral is in the mold of traditional Catholic cathedrals! Nothing of those ultra modern structures that are sterile looking and not uplifting like in some cities like L.A.

@Tito B. Yotoko Jr. : Not sure why you don't like "ultra modern". The cathedral in San Francisco is extremely beautiful. Also remember, the various styles of architecture used through the centuries were "ultra modern" for their time.

@Pope St. Victor I : Don't forget that all the Eastern Orthodox, the Coptic, the Armenian Orthodox, the Polish National, the Anglican, the Lutheran, the Old Roman Catholic churches have also been "purchased". The Church of Rome doesn't have a monopoly on Jesus or salvation.

It's lovely to see the return of traditional Church architecture but I noticed that in the previous church liberalism and protestant customs prevailed. I hope a true liturgy and theology will prevail here in line with the hermeneutic of continuity.

This was truly moving to watch - especially the consecration of the altar. I'm Western Orthodox and I think that it's lovely that our respective traditions have these beautiful rites in common.
But please, someone tell the commentator that the verb is "cense". To cense someone or something is to offer incense before it; to incense someone is to make the person angry - completely different verbs.
@St Melangell's Orthodox Church : Check your dictionary. "Incense" means to "perfume someone (with incense)" as well as "piss off someone". The commentator is correct.

what's the point of a choir if you'll overpower it with a cantor who cant even match what he's singing with that of the choir? 🙃
My thinking too. Organ and choir can carry all . I had only one Cantor, starting the hymn then actually standing back.
voxel bits that is one of my pet peeves. One would think somebody would realize how dumb it is for one person to be blaring into a microphone when a choir or the congregation is singing. If they knew how horrrible this sounds, nobody would ever do it.

Where's the dance? That said, I think that the church is beautiful and traditional in its architecture. The music overall, in my view, could be more traditional though it had its moments!!! And, I never understand why we have to be the ones bending. Does anybody hear our music in Protestant churches??? I haven't!!!!!
There could definitely be a few more icons and statues (considering that the price tag was 30 million) but its FAR better than the blank, empty lecture halls of the Vatican II era. A traditional altar (no table) and keeping the tabernacle center is VERY reminiscent of pre-Vatican II architecture. To be fair, this was a pretty reverent Novus Ordo.
However, like you, I hope that the entire Catholic world sees a return to the Tridentine rite.
You realize that Greek was the original liturgical language used in Rome until the vernacular Latin replaced it by the third century, I believe.

@@tehepicness12sauce : Arnold Conrad is pointing out that you folks are fools thinking that Latin is the only way to go. Vernacular was the way services were conducted. As ancient languages evolved, Latin, Greek, Coptic, Armenian, Old Slavonic, etc., etc., etc. were left behind as the languages for liturgies. Eventually no one knew what was being said by the priest. As a result, in the Church of Rome's case prior to Vatican 2, people had their noses in prayer books or prayed the Rosary without paying attention to Mass. They only looked up when the altar bells were jangled at the Consecration ... "Oh, look! It's Jesus" ... and then back to the books or rosaries. Using local languages allows for much better participation by all.
