    Man, Will changed everything in this family. Notice that Hilary used to be a bit serious in the beginning, then she revealed her true self and opened herself up to others. Carlton and Will had a rough start but as time passed they became like brothers, Vivian revealed her West Philly style and Ashley technically became the new ‘Will’. She used to be this innocent girl in the beginning until she became a teenager. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will always be one of the best series of all time haha!

    I really enjoy how Aunt Viv was always classy, but she brought a nice balance to Uncle Phil, who was not as kind, nurturing, and understanding as she was, especially concerning Will.
    And what happened to Uncle Phil's mom who used to call him Zeke?

  • @bfsgman
    @bfsgman 4 роки тому +533

    It's funny to me that many fans didn't like the more high class portrayal of the Banks family in season 1. Personally, I found it much more realistic to the down to earth style that followed. It also made the contrast between them and Will much more funny. Once they loosened up, they were like any other sitcom family. The only thing that made them stand out was that they were rich, but season 1 is when they really acted like it.

    • @brandonbates9259
      @brandonbates9259 4 роки тому +106

      The problem with the depiction of them early is that he was a wealthy judge, not an early 20th century french aristocrat brought up on a life of extreme wealth and privilege. Phil being a staple of Soul Train makes a lot more sense than him sipping tea and listening to classical music. It would make sense for him to do the latter with his colleagues, not his family. The kids were always portrayed as rich LA brats. That was always on the target.

    • @bfsgman
      @bfsgman 3 роки тому +57

      @@christopherbass4521 Uncle Phil was also ashamed of his humble roots in the beginning. He wanted to live a cultured lifestyle, and he tried to instill that in his children. Carlton was initially receptive and refined before becoming a "rich LA brat" as you put it. Of course, Hillary was like that from the beginning. Ashley wasn't really a brat, but more down to earth like Will. It was understood that Uncle Phil was being pretentious. He talked about his love of classical music, but Aunt Viv pointed out that he was into James Brown when they met. Still, the premise that he chose a more cultured persona once he became rich is not that unrealistic. He obviously wanted a better life for his children, and felt adhering to classy traditions was the way to go. That said, I do believe it was a matter of time before Will would rub off on the Banks family and vice versa. I just happen to find season 1 to be the best season because the contrast between Will and the Banks family was the strongest. As with most sitcoms, the characters became more broadly drawn by the end of the show.

    One of the things I loved about the first Aunt Viv was she showed her Philly roots a lot. Her empathy towards Jazz wanted to be called Jazz and having Ashley take her lesson or when Will and Carlton were arrested and she said, "It's about to get busy in here!"

    It's interesting that Will never seems to take anything seriously at this point of the show, yet it looks like he is listening carefully to the music in this scene and showing some respect. Also, remember in the first episode how it's revealed that he knows how to play Fur Elise on the Piano. This implies that he actually likes classical music and he's not all about Hip Hop and modern genres.
