ABOUT RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN
After long and highly distinguished careers with other collaborators, Richard Rodgers (Composer, 1902-1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (Librettist/Lyricist, 1895-1960) joined forces in 1943 to create the most successful partnership in American musical theater. Prior to joining forces, Rodgers collaborated with lyricist Lorenz Hart on musical comedies that epitomized wit and sophistication (Pal Joey, On Your Toes, Babes In Arms and more), while Hammerstein brought new life to operetta and created the classic Show Boat with Jerome Kern. Oklahoma!, the first Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, introduced an integrated form that became known as “the musical play.” Their shows that followed included Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Collectively, the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals have earned Tony, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer, and Olivier Awards. The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization is a Concord Company, www.concord.com.

This is just heartbreaking. I was close with him in high school and have many found memories of him working on our yearbook together. A seriously tragic loss. We all love you so much Gavin. You will always be remembered and live on through all of us, through your amazing work and your never ending unconditional love.
Go Trojans
Rest gently, beautiful soul.
Yep. Something really really wonderful. Aw Gavin, thank you for all the beauty and all feelings. You gave so much.
Deeply moving and, WONDERFUL! 💝💝🌹🌹😘😘⭐⭐
His voice and music are the legacy he left behind
He's known, beloved, awarded, celebrated...but not enough. This guy is beyond the beyond. What a talent.
You presence will be missed but your vocals will live forever. ❤ RIP
He was simply an awesome human being. I am so fortunate to have known him. I will miss him always. 😢
I think the heavens most of been lacking that pure music that comes front deep within the soul, only reason I can think of why this sweet dear man was summoned by them! Rest in peace Sweet Prince!
You are truly wonderful Gavin, rest in peace 💔
Rest now you brilliant soul. With thanks for all of the beauty and art
I bet R & H would totally love this.
RIP Gavin. Gone too soon.😢
You were so Loved!♥
I can’t even begin to say how many times I have listened to this, through other UA-cam links. I wasn’t sure, at first, that I liked the instrumentals but the more I listened, the more I appreciated it. The interpretation is beautiful, the voice gorgeous, as always, and the artist, yes, he is wonderful.
Arrangement and vocals blow me away.
Love the tone of his voice
Gavin Creel is a national treasure
I agree he is incredibly gifted. But I do not like this version of this song. As I am prone to telling my own children: more singing, less styling. Gavin is a brilliant performer, and this is a GREAT song. But the two of them have not found the right balance yet. I would love to hear him sing this song completely without embellishment or departure from the original score. I believe it would be better than this over-edited mess. If you have a voice, and Gavin *clearly* does, please let it do its own work.
Waiting for a truer version...
I understand your point. In fact, I would've been interested to hear him sing this song in it's original version because I'm sure that too would've been beautiful.
However, it seems the point here was to reinvent the song to a more current style. So, your comment seems contrary to the point of this video.
Fair enough it's not to your taste. However. I take exception to you calling this version a "mess." I think it's a very exciting take clearly borne out of the original song--fresh, innovative, and clever and absolutely professional. Even though you dislike the style, I would think you'd still recognize those qualities in his performance.

RIP Mr. Creel 😢🤍
Bless you.
Such a great way to cover this. Love it
Beautiful!
Their version would be a great with the right movie. That is why the original works. It needs a visual.
💔
gone too soon :(
Gavin Creel is mine. I will fight you for him.
Stick to the original melody, monsieur. It's loss is MISSED.
I agree, though I’m such a huge fan. The problem for me here is that the lyrics are lost, and I think they’re really the whole point. Gavin can clearly do anything vocally. But less would have been so much more here.
💔
