Spotlight on CCSD - Student Internship Program

For the second summer in a row, 10 multilingual students joined the district's Office of Translation and Interpretation Services (OTIS) - part of the Department of Multilingual Services and Translation & Interpretation Services - to assist elementary schools with registration.
This edition of the Spotlight on CCSD focuses on the real-world experience the students gained in the district's annual Career and Technical Education Student Internship Program (paid positions with district departments) and the impact they had on the community they served.
BACKGROUND:
Prior to being placed in their assigned schools, these student interns participated in a specially curated training course led by Diana Saillant, CEO of Saillant Language Consulting, LLC. Two summer interns assigned to the department also participated in the special interpretation and translation training.
Executive Director Angela Rush and her team strategically placed the interns with CCSD elementary schools that need extra registration support. Families registering their elementary age children for school, often for the first time, are greeted and supported during their experience by the interns in cooperation with each school’s bilingual professionals.
