My dad loved this song and wrote it out as a poem for his grandmother he lost and I recently lost him too.... So this brings me so much comfort this song 🌹🌹🌹😭😭😭😭😭😭 Rip my beautiful father ❤️
I'm 58 now, drove as a trucker for Western Willie, wandered around the world, lived in Monterrey Mexico, in Texas, in the Netherlands where I was born, married several times, had kids, but never at ease, became a trucker again and had a few companies. found my current wife 6 years ago and we are so happy together, and we solve everything in life that is possible
It was my senior year in High School that this was #1. As much as I love Joe Cocker's Beatle Covers and other songs, it is his "Up Where We Belong" duet with Jennifer Warnes that I heard first, and is only now in his passing that I realize this one touches me in a way that his other songs don't quite do, great as they are! Rest In Peace, Joe!
Roll- call music....when I was in Zambia as an Angolan Refuggee, I could always resort to the confort of this great melody. Now back home, thank you Zambia🙏

Today I was having an MRI and they put headphones on me and it started with this song that reminds my Mother Leonor and I started to cry remenbering her.😢
I love this song, it's the absolute pinnacle of terrible 80s ballad duets. It's so unapologetically sappy and melodramatic. Combined with the imagery of crying eagles and mountains that sounds like it was inspired by a T-shirt, and the fact that Joe Cocker sounds like he's permanently constipated, it all adds up to something truly special.
Steven Samiel This is my favorite. I listen to it over 50 times a day, go to sleep listening to it on repeat. My husband and I had it played at our wedding last year
Me too. My husband and I are obsessed with this song. We listen to it all day every day and go to sleep listening to it. It means so much to me because it was played at our wedding
I remember this being performed at The Academy awards in '82 by Cocker and a vocal group, the name escapes me now, I was in hospital for huge surgery and was buzzed on pain killers, so the memory is there, just can't recall who he sang with and the song sailed to number 1. Warnes wasn't on the show, I don't know the history of that and that surgery gave me an extra 35 years.......so far. Never forgot the power of that performance though and never saw any recording featuring the same pairing. RIP Joe!
When I read all those stories of folks related to the first time listening to this song is so long ago, I shudder. I just 'know' this song for about 3 days, and I am already addicted to this. I am surely planning to listen to this song again in 30 years, and then remember that time I first listenend to this song... I'll be 46 then, 30 years...damn, that's a short amount of time,
e, my mom and sisters cleaning song on weekdays. Big family so we had to get ready for the week on one special Saturdays we called them. And Sundays we went to church. The best memories of my life. Thank you Jesus.
My dad loved this song and wrote it out as a poem for his grandmother he lost and I recently lost him too.... So this brings me so much comfort this song 🌹🌹🌹😭😭😭😭😭😭 Rip my beautiful father ❤️

Oddly, the author's version is very good, sentimental without being corny, Buffy Sainte-Marie is a great songwriter.
