Exploring an Abandoned Military Base I Found on Google Earth - What I Found Will Shock You!

- While on Google Earth I found a massive structure that looked abandoned and beside it I found what appeared to be the entrance to a submarine base. This made me believe that I may have just found an abandoned secret military base so I headed out on a hiking adventure to go explore it in person.
This turned out to be a wild adventure as I explored shipwrecks, secret underground bunkers, massive military forts and an abandoned submarine base!
I really hope you enjoy this adventure!

Is what is the full name of this place
14:26 Those are Norse Runes! 😮 That's pretty old! Another name for those symbols is the Futhark! 😊 I used to study Norse mythology!
makes my day when a new josh the intern notification pops up on my phone
@ryyy4312 He always has the good stuff! 😎👍
@@ryyy4312 So kind of you to say!!
Crazy to think all the work that went into building things like this and the people it had inhabit it, just to be left behind abandoned. Blows my mind
Just like Trump pulling out of Afghanistan.
Fact check
He initiated the withdrawal
@@grimmertwin2148Trump wanted to take all the equipment back to the US. Biden did not care and left everything behind because “it was too expensive to bring it all back” 🤡. Biden = 💩
@@grimmertwin2148Boden did a terrible job in the withdrawal. Boden is a disgrace. FJB
If wood is kept dry and not exposed to UV radiation or consumed by pests, it can last indefinitely. The fact that wood is still present doesn't necessarily imply that the site was abandoned recently. This was an interesting adventure, though.
Yep. I've worked at a castle that is still running but as a wedding venue. Beams in most of the ceiling vaults are over 900 years old, carrying stone, and still going strong.
14:00 is one of the coolest moments I've seen in an video like this, so I thought I'd take a deeper look. This is just my interpretation, and I'm not an expert in this. Identifying the runes, they don't strictly follow any sort of specific runic alphabet, there's a mix here. The main one is Old Hungarian, which makes sense given it being an Austro-Hungarian fort. However, there are plenty of much more well known old Germanic runes, Odal, Ansuz, Berkanan. If they're here for any particular reason, my guess is it's for their "magical" use. More magical imagery would be the cross pattern sigil on the other wall, which clearly is inspired by Icelandic Magical Staves and similar symbols, though doesn't take after any in particular. As for the nearby spiral pattern, I'd say that's uh, for shock value. Can't blame them, it certainly worked on me. Almost thought this was a promo for the next season of True Detective for a second. All in all, what I'm leaning towards for the whole set of carvings is that it's just someone goofing around. The only thing that gives me pause is the use of Old Hungarian, which suggests something deeper and more... cultured? Either way, those are my two cents on the carvings.
Must have been a real shock to go from pointing out the lack of graffiti to... that. The ladder was another great moment, and likewise with everyone else I'm glad you didn't try going down it. I don't think anything would be worth the risk, and hey - it leaves a cool mystery out there.
Thanks, I was hoping someone would have any insight on that! It was the most mysterious bit of the video, but no one is commenting.
the comment i was looking for, been wondering about those runese
Could be anything from some esoteric nazi or wicca or satanic cult - or just some edgy teens 🤔
I noticed Dagaz raido teiwaz as well on the perpendicular wall I seen inverted algiz
im hungarian and i was so surprised when i saw our old writings on the wall. ive never seen them in fortresses before even tho i explore quite often. we call it Rovás writing and we havent been using it for a few centuries so its quite surprising that someone took the effort to write something there. fun fact is that we read that backwards.
You need a small drone with a light and camera to fly down these small tunnels and see where they lead
That’s a really good idea!
Donation!!!!!
Hey Josh thanks for the video. But as much as I love to see all of your crazy expeditions, I hope you're really careful with your findings too. Your works are epic! Take care stay safe over there👊
Don't worry I am as safe as possible when out on my adventures. I have a lot of equipment I don't really show the camera including an air monitor so I am always careful when exploring. Thanks so much for your continued support of the channel! I am so glad that you enjoy my videos and I am grateful for your support!
Ringgit ke?
Hi, great videos, if i may say i think it would be worth showing your extra equipment and the importance of it, for eg, the air monitor you mentioned so as to alert less experienced people to some of the dangers and responsible personal safety, especially when exploring alone. Keep up the great videos@@joshtheintern
Careful with your findings?
What does that mean
The 2 metal "pill boxes" on the top weren't for machine guns. They were for shooting bearings to the target ships. If you know the distance between the two points, and the angles to the target you can calculate the range very quickly. That information was passed to the guns for targeting.
I found the location on Google Earth: Fort Lustica. Address: Luštica, Rose, Montenegro
its actually ft kabala the one he went to, he never actually made it to lustica
amazing he found new misterious continent never found before by any1 its called europe
Watch the movie "Montenegro"
I knew it had to be in that area somewhere. Soviets had a lot of stuff there.
@@pointsur67 Yugoslavia was never controlled by the Soviet Union. Influenced yes, but not controlled. Moreover, the video (and Wikipedia) states that this fort was created by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 19th century...so this was not the work of the Soviets
I can understand when a culture or society falls that such structures might be abandoned, but in the present day, I just am stunned by such massive investment into structure and infrastructure just being cast away without repurpose or sale of such valuable acreage.
Agreed! It would of been a huge amount of time and resources to create these things
idk, its not like theres much todo wih a submarine base. It doesn't transition to being a preschool all that easily.
It would make a fine lair.
That’s the American way. Excessive and waste. We’re the best at it.
@@davidgreenwood6029All I could think of was this being used on the sly to traffic kids.
Use glow stick or flare to know how deep it is. A d go back here. Show us what presents are down there
glow stick is probably better since you never know if theres anything flammable down there
This would be amazing to make into a home
An elevator down to the sub base, what a cool boat house that would make.
So true!
Homeboy, you need to take someone with you in case: A) you get injured when you’re somewhere all alone and B) so you could explore further !!! 😅
Nice URBEX find!
It's places like this I cannot understand why someone doesn't buy it up and restore it into a doomsday facility, complete with lighting, generators, ventilation and perimeter fencing. So much potential!
If you don't understand why nobody wants to buy or live there try doing so and you'll find out why it is abandoned. So much cost for a nasty wet hole in the ground.
10:08 I only watched to see you go down that deep ladder. Bummer. ✌️
Same
Same
Same 😔
Same
I wouldn't go down there either
The spiders were pretending you weren't there.
Great fun....many thanks, Josh.
Well, you weren't wrong at all, Josh, for that was indeed a most epic adventure. Glad you didn't go down that shaft on the wall-mounted ladder. If it broke, as it probably would have done, it would have been good night Vienna for you, and nobody wants that, eh.
The masonry work is really good!! Still in tact
Man, you have found Moria! Thanks God you didn't stunble in the Balrog! 😵💫 Nice video, Kudos!
I am very glad I didn't find the Balrog!!
Dobrec Beach is the name of this place you can drive to the base with a 4x4 like I did
But what about the history of the submarines? Let me explain
The Austro-Hungarian submarine fleet was established in the decade leading up to World War I, built in various designs, many of them under license from Germany. These submarines carried out operations during the war against Italian, French, and British ships in the Mediterranean Sea and had some success, but unfortunately, eight out of the twenty-eight serviceable submarines were lost. The Austro-Hungarian submarine fleet was reinforced by the Pola Flotilla of the German Imperial Navy, mainly consisting of coastal submarines transported by rail from northern shipyards in Germany to Austrian ports on the Adriatic Sea.
After the end of the war in 1918, all Austrian submarines were handed over to the Entente powers, who individually transported them away. Since then, no Austrian or Hungarian submarines (or other naval vessels) have been commissioned because Austria and Hungary were completely cut off from the sea after the war.
Some sources refer to Austro-Hungarian submarines using Roman numerals as a way to distinguish them from German submarines with similar numbers, but the Austro-Hungarian navy itself used Arabic numerals. There are gaps in the numbering for various reasons. A series of Austro-Hungarian submarines under construction in Germany were sold and commissioned by the German Imperial Navy. In other cases, submarines in service with the German Imperial Navy were temporarily assigned to Austro-Hungarian numbers during their operations in the Mediterranean Sea. Superstition was a final reason for the unassigned U-13s
That’s an interesting piece of history there. Thanks!
Some parts of it seem to be much older, the one building and pillbox were dated 1896 and 1897.
@joesmith-es1zy The bunker dates back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I have written a blog about the area, "The Curse of Kabbalah (Luštica)," but I'm not here for self-promotion. However, there is a book I can highly recommend that includes the accurate history of these locations, along with many other hidden spots in the area: The Austro-Hungarian Fortresses of Montenegro: A Hiker’s Guide.(I did not write this guide)
@@JerrePictures Thanks. It's interesting that the pillbox roofs are stamped with the date when they were made. I'm assuming it's because of military specs.
Thanks for the info, nice to know the history of the area
Perfect for a Sunday morning coffee and smoke! Added claustrophobia to the mix 😳 Thanks for the
insane adventure.
Damn..... I'm dead ass doing the same thing....lol
@@rickjames7529ditto 😂
I'm getting ready for bed in a bit! 1 am here in Oklahoma! 😅
Sorry to add claustrophobia to your otherwise peaceful sunday morning! 😂
I think it would be interesting if you could show how you got to this place, like filming and detailing the route, means of transportation and such. All that was missing was going down that ladder at 9:39 for the exploration to be complete, but your safety comes first. You made an incredible record. What a cool adventure, yes I really enjoyed it. Always take care of yourself Josh. Hugs from Brazil.
Thank you so much! I am really glad that you enjoyed this adventure! I can definitely include more footage of how I get there, great idea!
The amazing part is to see such huge solid structures and wonder how they even transported the cement and stone etc. up there to build it with, and then tho accomplish the construction work,
It would have taken a lot of people and a lot of time! It is crazy that it was then just abandoned
@@joshtheintern Do you know the history of when the started to build it? when it was finished and when it was abandoned?
I don’t see how people haven’t moved into some of these abandoned places and set up a small community or something
I am surprised too, I have seen lots of evidence though of people living in the places I explore. I think they go out during the day and sleep there at night
Thank you Josh for showin us around this cool old fort! Love the longer videos too! 😊
Thanks for watching! I am so glad you like the longer videos!
1897 on the pill box domb at 16.56 minutes. Wonderful video
From the darkness of the tunnel....."Don't you want a ballon? Go ahead.....TAKE IT"
As we say in the world of bushwhacking, you really got into the thick of it. All the best adventures require a bit of bushwhacking. Enjoyed the video a lot!
Thanks so much! Really glad that you enjoyed the video!
Great explore as always Josh...i wonder if anyone has ever magnet fished in the sub base...good on you getting close to those spiders for the shots, youre a braver man than i lol
Thanks so much! That is such a good idea! There could be a lot at the bottom but I believe it is very deep
You should do some geocaching, so you‘d get introduced to your „mysterious“ places by some profound listings. Been there a few years ago, you can drive up almost to the forts entrance, sub base is covered by a cache too. And you missed the large double sub base east of Roze. There are also geoacaches around your former hike from Perast. Just for your interest. Keep up your good work!
Bro you are such a brave person 💪 , to explore these types of places one must have courage and you are one of them 😊❤️
Wow!👍👍👏👏this truely is a great video. I enjoyed every bit of it.
It always gets me how much work people will put in to destroy something.
Incredible exploring. Amazing. WOW. Thank you.
So glad that you enjoyed this adventure! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Loved this journey!!
Love the videos, just discovered your channel and subscribed. The journey to the locations, the camera angles, commentary and lack of music/added sounds makes this my new favorite channel. Keep it up!
Love the longer videos!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy them!

This would be such a great adventure, I am glad I found this video and subscribing to see more.
Great video again. Can't wait for the next 👍👍👍
Thank you so much! So glad you are enjoying the videos!
What a find...wow...
Another great video! Thank you
Really cool forts! Loved seeing more inside the buildings and the submarine base. I do want to mention that I'm *not* particularly a fan of the creepy music when you were in the underground rooms. 😅 Part of the reason I've enjoyed your videos so much is that there isn't much of that, it really gets my anxiety up.
I did find it really fascinating that in spite of this being a more modern fort, it follows the tradition of ancient castles in having many lines of defense (like the gun slits on the walls beside where a door would have been, multiple doors to get in, etc). It reminds me of Carcassone in France and Lachish in ancient Israel. (Lachish had SO MANY defensive gates, it's wild, and Carcassone is a castle I've been too and find really cool but its defenses were common for when it was built) I don't know as much about how modern fortifications are constructed, so I really enjoyed seeing that this one is built just like castles and fortresses had been built for millennia! Thanks for the close up look!
Thanks so much for watching and I totally understand, I thought the places were quite creepy so I wanted to make it more atmospheric. Some people enjoy the more creepy vibe but I understand it's not for everyone. I'll try balance between the two in my videos and only use the music if it matches how I felt exploring the place.
That is really fascinating! They must have taken inspiration from earlier designs. I couldn't imagine trying to attack that fort, it seems it would be near impossible. I'd love to visit Carcassone one day, it looks spectacular!
One hell of a huge base scary inside ..
Why not take a 360 camera ball (attached to very, very long fishing line for retrieval) with you
to drop into the deep hole?
Cause this video is in the past. You go ahead and create a time machine so he can go back in time and do things your way.
@TimLevi Who's saying he should get something for the past to use?
As always great stuff Josh
Great explore! This is very interesting to me and love to check it out so thanks for sharing your adventure. I will never make it there in person to see this so I appreciate you! Thanks
So glad that you enjoyed this adventure and found it interesting!

Cool exploration. But that one room looked like a sacrifice alter
Cool video! :)
Thank you for sharing your exploration
Thank you! You should bring someone with you so you can go all the way into these places
What is that movement at the end of the corridor 7:12?
great place for a over night camping and to get away from people for a weekend.
Absolutely!
At 11:01 all I could think about is...Snakes, Snnnakkkkes...Yikes. Lol! This was such a find. Thanks for this!
Great Work Outlaw !
awesome look around, Thanks for the adventure tour.
Josh have you considered carrying a mini drone to get out over the wrecks and in tunnels and stuff ? The dji mini 4 is about 500gm for drone and controller. Would make for some really good footage considering where you go to
Awesome well done ,and thank you ,hard work you do getting there realy keeps us watching wanting to see whats next.❤😊
Josh that was awesome . i would love to go there too
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
@joshtheintern you're very welcome and thank you I loved it
hope everything you have with you are waterproof cuz i kept having a scare that you might fall into the water 😅the place still looks really good for something that built since 1895 tho, wow
most of my stuff is waterproof but it still would of been a shock 😂 I agree, it is very impressive they were able to carve these huge places into the hillside
This is one of the most fascinating abandoned military installations on the tube !
Wonderful Josh, this was a great explore enjoyed watching it.

Great video Josh! I am no longer mobile, but I still want to explore. Thank you for making it possible for people like me to see places we do not have the ability to see on our own.
Now I wonder who owns this property.
Thanks so much for watching and I am so glad I can showcase these locations to you! I am not sure who owns the property but it is public access land so my guess would be the government
Wow such a decent searcher for abandoned gems!! When i saw the first images of your clip i guessed you've been in Yugoslavia... and bingo!!
Just stay safe while entering these structures dude, and always have a backup plan!!
Thanks so much! You nailed it!
Reminds me of playing the game Myst. Exploring abandoned underground passages was part of the gameplay.
6:21 the audacity to assume you’re alone
The metal domes were range finding positions for the big guns next to them.
Great video
Considering it's 130 years old with a lot of that time being more than likely neglected, and where it's located, I'd say it's in remarkably good condition.
Build in stone, it lasts forever. How they got it all that stone up there and cut to fit must of been one heck of an undertaking by a lot of men at the turn of the century.
Agreed! It is a very impressive structure that doesn't look like it will crumble away anytime soon

I just found your channel. Im hooked!!!
The runes seem to be from the Viking runic script and the pictographs also. The spirals are also Celtic and the crossed lines are Viking too. Just thought I'd let you know as it's strange to find them in a modernish fort with an alter like basin.
Very interesting place. Not Virgin, but not abused either. They sometimes use the word forgotten. This place deserves some TLC.
Epic adventure, great video! I would think the air in that windowless mountain top base would be clean by design.
So glad you enjoyed the video!

14:16 Viking runes. Someone was there that is an odinist or alchemist although the practice of alchemy is uncommon these days?
Also those spiral designs reminds me of the Celtic labyrinths that the ancient Celtic people carved on stones I believe they’re called triskelions
