Aside from a tiny boardgame I purchased mail order titled 'Ostkrieg' (£2.99- happy days!), Anzio and War & Peace were the first two 'proper' wargames I purchased, back in 1982, and I still have both. I like to dig out W&P now and then and, despite the stick it gets these days, Anzio is probably my favourite game. I've not been a prolific buyer of wargames as I do a lot of miniature gaming, but I've accumulated around 15/20 titles. Pleased I've found someone else who still appreciates these two AH classics. Fun fact: I purchased both from Games Workshop in Manchester- what a different beast they were back in the day.
I remember buying "proper" wargames in Games Workshop back in the day. 15/20 titles 🙄 = rank amateur! Glad you found my channel and hopefully you will enjoy what I do here. I appreciate your comment and it all encourages me to make content. BTW what miniatures to you play?
I think it's a classic -- I have good memories of playing it once or twice 40+ years ago, anyway. I thought it did a good job at making the players think about their lines of communication and how to protect them. I like the counter graphics a lot, simple as they are. The rivers are a disgrace though. It was the pre-internet days but we had maps back then and people commented on the map at the time.
Disgrace is a bit harsh, they were a product of their time. I am playing Anzio at present and its the same issue. I am looking forward to playing this soon and I am so tempted to get the computer version of 6th edition. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is much appreciated.
I have only played it two player back in the day. I remember most of the scenarios being challenging, fun and not too long. To play the campaign always seemed a pipe dream, but with vassal and the internet, who knows. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is much appreciated.
the Polish Cavalry was always missing from the original - they didn't give you enough in the original counter sheets! You have to make your own or find a substitute.
A copy or two, but never played…😢 Thats part of the reason I started my channel… all the unplayed games gathering dust on my shelves of shame. Now I am buying games , so that I can play them on my channel. 😅
@@aaronsibley39 Yep, I agree. I "used to" play anything solo. I did for decades, but the enjoyment is just not there most of the time solo. That is especially true with a game of this type that imo would really shine multiplayer (2-3...more?)....and will NEVER happen considering the scope/time scale of the game itself. Well, perhaps I over-state a bit: maybe at a convention or something of that sort I might find 2 other players willing to invest a day and a half in this game...maybe.
Its a great game and not too complex. The rules are quiet straight forward for the campaign scenarios. They do start to get rather involved if you want to do the entire Napoleonic Wars.

Historical- the usual suspects: WW2, Napoleonics, ACW, Mediaevals, Colonial.@@aaronsibley39
The usual suspects indeed, though I notice no Ancients...
I forgot to include Ancients. And WSS. And AWI...@@aaronsibley39
😂🤣🤣🤣 A gamer indeed!

Wonderful series thanks again
It is great to get this to the table and it does play well solo. 😉
A classic. The gripes are legitimate but the game plays simply and superbly up to five players, which is rare for a wargame.

That's great to know. That will always be a problem if you buy a punched game. Is that a counter missing? Thanks for watching and making the comment.😀
Ha! A friend and I were talking about this one just a few weeks ago. I have never played this one but I have a copy or two.

Its difficult finding another player with similar interests within your local environment. many gamers just want to play what is shiny and new.
I enjoyed playing this game but I struggled with the rivers being in the middle of the hexes and not on the hex edges.
The Rivers can be tricky. I am having a similar issue in Anzio. Maybe its something specific for that era game.
Got this for free as someone donated it to my local comic store. Have yet to play it, looks complex.

Play it!
Totally agree. Its a game that deserves to be played.
Playthrough at some point? 😊
Of course, probably start within the week…
@@aaronsibley39 awesome! I have this one for a little while now...may play along with you
@@erichchaves Thank you!
