Landed in London from Australia for my working holiday adventure a week before this - knew nothing about darts but had this on the telly - to this day I still consider this to be the most compelling sporting event I've ever witnessed.
It's 2024. Still the greatest world darts final in my opinion. Of course there have been some amazing finals since but Mike and Phil were so even in this game. Shame someone had to lose. The best so far.
Such a shame Mike Gregory didn't win the 1992 World Championship - had darts to wrap it up - was a great player, was unlucky in the 1992 World Masters Final too.
Time flies, The power, Now that he is in senior tournament it would have been cool if his nick name be crowned to younger generation, I would love to see someone else vest that name, much memory and the legend story will have yet another chapter,
45:00 Big turning point when Taylor misses four darts for a 3-0 lead. Everyone remembers Gregory's missed darts but had Taylor taken one of those the match probably would have been over a lot sooner.
Mike Gregory should have won the first set though - both players were making as many mistakes as each other throughout - but Mike was first to get the chance to Win the Championship - but unfortunately didn't. But, it says everything about the margins in the sport - because Phil the Power always looks back on this, his 2nd Champs Win.
Poor Mike, never got over that one. so close yet so far Darts have changed so much now not the same anymore. Pint of water please!!.. NO a🍺& 20 B&H they was the days. R.I.P to Mike & Eric 2 Legends😢.
Sid is commentating some of time (for instance at the start of the match). Commentary duties were shared between Sid and the much more intellectually challenged Tony Green.
@@thelstanedwardsson4374 + honorable mention to sid and Dave Lanning ......-They could reproduce a wonderful atmosphere for the GAME ...so Lacking now its unbelievable . .. .RIP brothers .... !!!!
@@krishnan-resurrection714 Yep, they were both the original commentators when the Sport first started on TV on BBC and ITV - RIP them both. Darts is rather plastic now - and without Phil Taylor - I must admit, I'm not nearly as interested in it anymore.
Later that year Gregory also lost the World Masters final to Dennis Priestley after missing match darts. Not a year he looked back on with much fondness, methinks :)

Particularly after that bull throw off, I'm amazed that Gregory didn't win that last leg. That dart was RIGHT in the middle of that bullseye
Its amazing how Gregory only reached one world final
Not really. His bottle was shaky... as he demonstrated here.
Incredible how the standard has improved.

Cracking match,,,,,LEGIONS live on.
Taylor - absolutely lucky boy
Who are the three applauding
Taylors first x5 ?
Is one of them s young 'Duzza'!?
Taylor seemed ordinary back in those days, compared to what he went on to achieve as PDC champion 14x.
Why wasn't Sid commentating??

Poor old Mike Gregory. 5 match darts 🥴
Actually 6 match darts (2xD8, 2xD20, 2xD10). I was gutted, backed him at 16/1 at the start of the tournament.

@@flaviusconstantius9702 Was a great player Mike Gregory but probably the unluckiest (if that's a word) in history of the sport.
@thelstanedwardsson4374 Missing multiple match darts isn't always just bad luck. Sometimes it comes down to bottle and keeping calm under pressure.
