Football was amazing during that era. 1990-2000 was Golden era. Amazing talents. I loved Holland team and orange kit.
I've never seen a footballing nation like the Nederlands who play so well but end trophyless in the end. Unlucky....

Well, the French gave this game away a bit. Both teams had already qualified for the quarter finals. The Dutch wanted to win so they could keep playing at home. The French did not mind losing since that meant they could play their quarter final and semifinal in Belgium, so closer to home. While the Dutch played with their strongest team, the French left many players on the bench that would usually play from the start: Zidane, Henry, Barthez, Deschamps, Djorkaeff (played half an hour), Blanc and Anelka. From the French bench in that game one could have made a team that would have been one of the favorites to win the tournament. That their reserves still managed to only lose 3-2 to the Netherlands says something about the incredible strength of this French team.

Haha they suck now ^^ Holland third place just two years ago in the world cup, and italy almost took out the world cup champions and lost on penalties haha who are you even cant take you serious sry mate.
Looking back at these highlights, just remids me what a great tournament this was.

Probably the best Euro's. So many epic matches. Just in GS you had England v Portugal, England v Romania, Germany v Portugal, Slovenia v Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia v Spain, Netherlands v France, France v Czech Republic.

The reason is that you must not consume all energy against one team so that you are left with none against another. If Netherlands had just defeated Yugoslavia by a small margin,they could have defeated Italy too. But lack of energy and concentration cost them greatly against Italy.

Frank De Boer was a outstanding centre back with a perfect precision for free kicks and long passes.
This French team had no weakness!!! Even the subs who played that game were good.

A classic match all the same. A great Dutch team versus France at their absolute peak: they only lost two competitive matches in the six years between the Euro 96 semi and the WC02 opener; this was one of them.
(To be fair, France also played fewer matches than most, as they qualified automatically for both the 98 and 02 world cups)

I get that. But it doesn't make it wrong either. From this angle it's impossible to say... so i was simply wondering if anybody recalled a potential offside here, or not. Maybe journalists spoke about it back then, but i was 12 so i don't remember at all.
