    It was a brilliant camera when it came out and still does the business today. Just because technology has advanced it doesn’t mean you still can’t make great images with older cameras. I still use my old D700 regularly

      100% agreed man . I remember when it came out . It was the portrait body for most pros and it still does the job if you know what you are doing . D700 is awesome too 🤓

    Thankyou for your video.
    I also have the 5D classic, and the "creamy" look of the files are just georgous !
    I use it along side my 6D MK1, the 6D also has a very similar look to the 5D.
    Canon got it right with both of these camera's!
    Keep up the great channel.

    Great video! The MK1 was my first dive into full frame from the tiny Canon SL1. I bought it used for $235 USD. Nowadays I use the Canon R6 and the 5DSR. I still keep the MK1 around for a number of reasons. Mostly for the uniqueness that it brings, but I also love to hear that old-school shutter click. There's something about that sound...Thanks for posting!

    I’ll be taking the kids to Disney for the first time today. Wanting to pack light, I committed to taking one camera only. The 5D was an easy choice to me. For years I’ve loved the images I get from this camera. Great video, it’s good to see other people have the same passion for this little piece of photographic history

      I guess I am getting too old, it does not occur to me to think of the 5D as packing light. Maybe a Fuji X or M43 seems along the lighter side to me. But I guess if you limit the 5D to a 50mm lens it would be more portable. Maybe a Ricoh GR of some kind would be nice. Or, some film cameras can be quite portable as well.
      Check your batteries some on the 5D may need replacing and check to see which firmware you are running since it impacts the size of CF card you can use without the images getting destroyed. (Bring some glue for the mirror, just in case.)
      Best wishes!

      @@johnjon1823 I had the griii but I just couldn’t justify it . It’s a good camera I just couldn’t get on board with the built in lens. And the lack of viewfinder. I thought I could . That’s why I bought it , to give it a chance and if I’m honest I could probably be ok with the lack of viewfinder but I’m a massive lens nerd so I always kept wondering how would the shot look with one of my lenses . I kept it for a few months and I didn’t hate it I just missed my lenses . Spent ages collecting .it would be a shame not using them . I’m not bion apsc . Just never even crossed my mind to get one so I never tried Fuji , well only friends . I’d buy one if a full frame would drop but it won’t …. And the gfx are tempting like crazy … I’m just considering the new lens collection that I’d need for that system … pocket crippling impact lol

    I already have a Canon 5D converted to infrared capture, and the results are incredible. It is because of the large pixels that the shadows are almost noise free. At 1600ISO pictures have a noise structure that is very appealing. Anyway, I bought another 5D (for £200!) for its colour capabilities, and it is a later model without the mirror and rear screen issues. Such a great camera.

      Oh man what a great idea . Infrared conversion 🤓 I was just thinking the other day how cool would it be to turn one into a true monochrome camera . Man I’d love it even more probably . I mean I do love the colours out of this thing but a monochrome second body would come with me everywhere 🤓 I’ll actually look into this now 😁yeah you are right it’s a great camera for sure 🤓

    Hello, I liked your video. I also have that camera, it's a thrill to shoot with it, I also have an R6, however the photos I get without editing with the 5D classic are different, they move me and surprise me, thanks for the video, greetings.

    • @FST0p
      @FST0p  2 роки тому +3

      I feel the same man . Straight out of camera the 5D mk1 is pretty amazing . The R6 is a beast of course and the 5D can’t complete really … on paper … but there is this feeling whenever I’m using this old 5D . The shutter sound even 😂 can’t really explain it rationally . But I love this thing and it still shot great images 🤓

    I bought this camera because I wanted a full frame camera on a budget. It is very sturdy, I dropped it once and it wasn't damaged in the least. I can this my digital film camera because it brought me back to my film Canon AL-1 days. For those intimidated but settings at first they can use full auto mode and get good results until they learn what settings to use with their camera. One thing that I can tell you is that I will be using a flash more frequently with this camera for shooting in darker indoor scenes if flash is permitted.

    • @FST0p
      @FST0p  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly, I’m treating mine as my “ film leica “ . Got that analog feel to it without the expense . The flash is a good shout . The iso isn’t crazy good but still good enough and I’m not gonna lie I kinda like the grain when it’s grainy 🤓

    As an enthusiast who had shot with SLR since the late seventies, the only thing that is memorable for me about the 5D was being able to own a FF DSLR in 2005. It was a much anticipated camera to upgrade from my 2000's Canon D30 and served well in its time. But as a whole package, it just could not hold up against my 2007's Nikon D3 that I still use today.

    • @FST0p
      @FST0p  2 роки тому

      Well, yes . Newer tech is newer tech u might as well just say that this £200 camera can’t keep up with the new R6 🤷🏼‍♂️ and you would be right 🤓

      @@FST0p I was comparing them in 2007 (and the 5D Mk II in 2008) while I have shot with my D3 for 13 years. Surely, there were more new tech in 13 years, then 2 years. Of course, it is just me. 🙂

      @FST0p  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly . It has a tiny bit of magic built in I think 🤓 don’t get me wrong I love my modern gear too . But this thing just stayed with me for years and never fails to deliver and if you look at the price / value ration is insane now . What you get for so little is almost impossible. I had the 5D ii and mkiii too for a bit but I think this mk1 is just designed different, maybe the sensor I don’t know but I never saw the same colours from the rest of the 5ds they are good too I’m not complain the classic just nailed something at first that’s missing from the newer generations .

    Love the 5D. I use one alongside my Fuji S5 Pro. Both have fantastic skin tones and colors, very filmic. The 5D has a much better menu system and better AF system, but the Fuji produces more pleasing photos IMO. But I love both.

    I am using it with a 40mm 2.8 , it's my canon leica :P, the only thing though is that with film, I wait for the right moment or catch the right light, with digital i shoot more frames, it will spoil you a bit; but then again i can experiment more without being out of film.

    Should I shoot Raw or Jpeg with the 5D? which one is better with the 5D?

    • @madmechanic7641
      @madmechanic7641 Рік тому

      My advice (and I'm no expert but been doing it a long time) Shooting RAW gives you way more to play with in processing as files are 4,5 or 6 times larger so take up a lot more card space. Jpeg is handy but the camera does the compression so you can't manipulate image as much after shot.. Keep it up though.. Pete : )

    • @Digital_Photog1995
      @Digital_Photog1995 Рік тому

      I always shoot in RAW, I process in Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) free program for Windows and MAC. More data in raw files then jpeg therefore more ability to recover highlight and shadow details.

    • @FST0p
      @FST0p  Рік тому

      I always shoot raw . It’s still a small file on this camera 📸

    • @ShutterNChill
      @ShutterNChill Рік тому

      I usually always shoot RAW and small jpg both. (You can shoot both with the 5D). I use the small jpeg to email or post on social media, and keep the raw so I can get the most out of it. 5D RAW has 4 bits more data than the jpg! (jpg is 8 bits.)That's tremendous addition to the dynamic rage that the jpg has, you can actually pull a ton of details from highlights and shadows or removing noise / sharpening if you need / want to. Plus, not just extra dynamic detail, but a whole lot more color information as well. While the files out of the 5D are straight up wonderful, but with editing you can get even more out of them - often quite a bit more! In the past I did not feel I needed the raw, but today the DPP/ Lightroom is so much better (and monitors as well!), and can pull so much more today from the raw than 10-15 years ago. I always regretted when I have shot only in jpg....

    12 mega pixels is enough. Use DXO PhotoLab Deep Prime export to DNG raw use Lightroom or Photoshop to upscale.
