Batman Begins is so underrated. First film to show Bruce take 7 years overseas living as a criminal, learning how to fight and understand how criminals think. Explained his suit & weapons.
I always thought Batman Begins was the most Batman-y film of the trilogy and rewatching it recently just reminded me how impeccably done the whole film was. Everything from the exploration of Bruce/Batman's psychologies and why he doesn't kill, to the depiction of a more stylized, gothic Gotham and the comicbooky aspects to its plot and villains that still were all kept it all grounded, it was perfectly done.
I won't say it's underrated but definitely overlooked compared to TDK now which while I agree is a better film, it's not as nearly as good of a Batman movie as he gets overshadowed by the plot and the villains a lot.
@@themadtitan7603 true, Batman is always overshadowed by his villains because they’re all over the top and more interesting, while he’s just 1 man with no powers
@@nuffsaidny That's why The Batman is now my favorite Batman movie, it feels more like a Batman story and the villains simply pop in and out without stealing the show from the main character.
The Batman is the best depiction of Batman on the big screen. It captured everything as convincingly as possible. Made me feel like I was in Gotham City.

1. The Dark Knight 2. The Batman 3. Batman Begins 4. The Lego Batman Movie 5. The Dark Knight Rises Those are my top 5 but I haven't seen a lot of the animated ones
Nice list Austin! I know a lot of people have issues with Katie Holmes in Batman begins and I don't quite understand why. I think I'm in the minority right now because I like Katie Holmes more than Maggie Gyllenhaal as the character.
I put The Batman over The Dark Knight partially because it is the first film to make me really love the character of Batman even more than his amazing Villains. Paul Dano's Riddler was nearly as good as Heath Ledger's Joker, not to mention how good Falcone and Penguin were in this movie, but Robert Patinson became my favourite iteration of Batman in just one movie. Looking forward to seeing it again soon!
Batman Gotham Knight was the first adult novel I ever read and what truly got me into reading books. The novelization was much better than the film and felt more cohesive and connected to The Dark Knight. I also read it picturing the movie and not multiple art styles. So this film will always have a special place in my heart because it got me into reading.
The batman 2022 Batman 1989 Batman begins Batman forever Batman mask of the phantasm Batman mystery of the Batwoman The dark knight The dark knight rises Batman returns Batman 1966 Batman and Robin
I actually had a fun time watching Batman Forever and I recently saw it for the first time. Now the villains are really bad, which hinders the movie from being great, but I love Val Kilmer's batman/Bruce Wayne.
I liked The Batman, I really did, solid 8/10.... but..... to say that its a better origin story than Batman Begins (let alone a better movie than Batman Begins)...... *sigh*...... Are you sure my guy?
@@AustinBurke I don't know, I don't dislike Katie Holmes in the film, and I know I'm in the minority. I'm also in the VAST minority that I didn't like Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman. I thought she was annoying and served nothing to the plot but to make it more convoluted. I guess the way you see Batman Begins with Katie Holmes is the way I see The Batman with Zoe Kravitz. When it comes to The Batman, I love Pattinson (he might overtake Bale someday as the best Batman), I love the Riddler, (I think he is an INCREDIBLE modern and grounded villain) I love the plot and its twist, I love Falcone, and I love Gordon, I just don't care two craps about Zoe Kravitz or her place in the story. We're a couple of weird opposites lol. By the way, love the content, keep it up.
I'll just do the theatrical ones lol 1. The Batman 2. The Dark Knight 3. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 4. Batman Returns 5. Batman '89 6. Batman Begins 7. Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition (ok, so technically this isn't theatrical but i've never seen the theatrical lol) 8. The Lego Batman Movie 9. The Dark Knight Rises 10. Batman Forever 11. Batman '66 12. Batman & Robin
I have no issue putting The Batman firmly in my #1 spot now. It’s the exact Batman movie I’ve wanted ever since I was a kid and it was almost flawless in my opinion. Great list as always!
Nice to see you discussing the animated movies too! Flashpoint, Under the Red Hood, and Dark Knight returns are all great! They should be in the talks for the best DC movies.
1. The Batman 2. The Dark Knight 3. The Dark Knight Rises 4. Batman Begins 5. Zack Snyder’s Justice League 6. Batman v Superman 7. Batman 89 8. Batman Returns 9. The Lego Batman Movie 10. Batman 66 11. Josstice League 12. Batman Forever 13. Batman & Robin

The Dark Knight Returns is amazing! Similar to Logan, I like when a superhero character is explored in an older and wiser stage in their life and are forced to reflect on their past. No longer being in their prime, with death creeping up, and are forced to come out of retirement and embrace who they truly are, because it’s all they’ve ever known.
WOW a whole lot of these are SHOCKING. Alot of these were done DIRTY, particularly Batman Ninja, '66, and Returns. Interesting Justice League inclusions. That is a phenomenal list Austin I agree with that top 10 I love that you’ve added the animated movies as they are movies with great stories 🎥👍❤️👌thanks for this show really enjoyed it 👌 My list is as follows Need to watch the Batman again to decide whether it’s above Batman Begins or below 🧐 1: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT 2: THE BATMAN/ BATMAN BEGINS 4: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 5: BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM 6: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PT2 7: JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE SNYDER CUT 8: BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART TWO 9: BATMAN: UNDER THE RED HOOD 10: BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PT1 11: JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX 12: BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (The Ultimate Edition) 13: BATMAN (1989) 14: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PT1 15: BATMAN RETURNS 16: BATMAN: YEAR ONE 17: THE BATMAN SUPERMAN MOVIE: WORLDS FINEST 18: BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM 19: BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT 20: BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE I’ve only seen 25 of the films on your list can’t wait to watch some of the ones you had in your top 30 definitely 🎥👍
1-3. The Dark Knight trilogy (A+) 4. The Lego Batman Movie (A) 5. Batman Returns (A-) 6. The Batman (A-) 7. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (B+) 8. Batman (1989) (B) 9. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (C-) Haven't seen Batman (1966) yet but might one day. No plans on ever watching the Schumacher ones. I have no intention to seek out the straight to DVD ones but I'm open to the idea of catching one if I get the chance. I still think it's a little silly to include Justice League movies on a Batman list, and I will continue not to do so.
I agree with your Top 3 for sure! The Batman is very very good, but at times it does drag a bit….my first and even second viewing were fine, but after that, you do start to notice the runtime. The car chase scene is literally one of the best action scenes I’ve seen in a while too! There is just so much good in this movie but in the end, no no matter how you try to spin it, The Batman is a slow burn. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it does hurt it to an extent when it comes to repeat viewings. Same thing with the movie Zodiac….I love that movie but I don’t watch it often due to it’s pacing. I have to be in the right mood and have energy for it. Also, one last thing, I do believe The Batman has way less suspense than The Dark Knight. Joker in TDK was so sporadic that you didn’t know wether whatever he threw at Batman would end on a good note. While The Riddler was menacing, he followed a pattern and didn’t stray from it. One last thing and this is a technical one, but the fact that portions of TDK were shot in IMAX also elevates the film. Nothing beats seeing the intro to the film or the transferring of Harvey Dent to prison fully take over the towering IMAX screen. When I saw The Batman in IMAX I really wished it could of had that privilege. Sadly, it didn’t.
Katie Holmes wasn't replaced by nolan because of the critiques. Nolan told Business Insider in 2016, “Katie wasn’t available for the role, which I wasn’t very happy about, but these things happen, and I was very, very fortunate that Maggie was able to take it over.”
The animated 90s series. Dark Knight trilogy. Batman Beyond series. Superman and Batman animated series. Batman 89 movie. Best Justice League, would be that animated one, especially for the best Wonder Woman. 👌
No but it’s the origin “movie” in the franchise, so comparing it to Batman Begins is valid! I’d also argue that it is the origin of the Bruce Wayne we know because of his arc coming together at the end! And thank you :)🙌🏻
I went into this video having only seen (besides live-action movies) Batman: Under the Red Hood, and as the rankings got closer to 1 I was getting worried it didn't make the list, because I loved that movie! So glad to see it at number 7
Live action Batman movies ranked 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Dark Knight Rises 3. The Batman 4. Batman Begins 5. Joker (2019) 6. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 7. Batman (1989) 8. Batman Returns 9. Batman Forever 10. Batman & Robin
Under the Red Hood, Batman The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2 , Justice League Apokolips War, Batman SubZero, Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Assault on Arkham, Batman Year One and Batman Beyond Return of the Joker are incredible Batman Animated Films! I also have a soft spot for Batman V Dracula! I always re-watch it on the halloween! I think the movie is great, not just because of the nostalgia reasons even tho that does play a big part on why I love the film, but it's so fun and quite creepy at times.
I appreciate you putting Batman Begins in the top 3. I don’t understand how my friends don’t even have it in their top 10 since I personally believe it is the best Batman film. But that’s why all films are subjective. :)
50! Dude you are killing it! Largest Batman ranking list I've seen yet. Crazy good list brother. My favorite Batman movies are those first 2 Nolan movies.
Just watched the batman a few hours ago and I loved it, even though I thought there were a few moments where the films could've ended but dragged on a little bit. Still an amazing film though
great list. you put a ton of work into this one. i'm only part way thru so far. as a big anime fan i have batman ninja way way way higher but i understand its really out there. i haven't even watched all the batman animated movies yet impressive you took the time to. there is a new 2022 catwoman animated movie out, not sure if batman is in it though. just bought it haven't watched it yet.
I know it just came out, but I would place The Batman at the number 1 spot. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love The Dark Knight, but where The Batman succeeds at the most is giving each and every character a chance to shine, where in The Dark Knight, the Joker takes everyone’s spotlight. Also, the detective/film noir and horror aspects really fit Batman and Gotham the most.
No but it’s the origin “movie” in the franchise, so comparing it to Batman Begins is valid! I’d also argue that it is the origin of the Bruce Wayne we know because of his arc coming together at the end.
Honorable Mention: Snyder Cut 5. Batman (1989) 4. The Dark Knight Rises 3. The Batman 2. Batman Begins 1. The Dark Knight Edit: I’m also not a fan of Batman returns. I prefer Batman forever over it. As a kid, my order was 1-BB-3-4-2 (I wasn’t allowed to watch the dark knight until I was a bit older, and it took me years to understand appreciate and love it). Would also like to mention you’re by far my favorite you tuber and your videos always provide me with a sense of excitement and comfortability. Please never stop posting videos lol.
Just watched BATMAN & MR FREEZE: SUBZERO for the first time gotta say I agree with your idea Austin that this would be a great Batman story to bring to live action..very heartfelt story 🎥👍❤️ up there with the best animated Batman stories..for sure.
Batman Movie Ranking - 1. The Dark Knight (2008) 2. The Batman (2022) 3. Joker (2019) 4. Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm (1993) 5. The Dark Knight Rises (2012) 6. Batman (1989) 7. Batman Begins (2005) 8. The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) 9. Batman Returns (1992) 10. Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders (2016) 11. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016) 12. Batman Forever (1995) 13. Batman & Harley Quinn (2017) 14. Batman & Robin (1997) Haven’t see Catwoman (2004), Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) & Batman: The Movie (1966)
I agree with everything on this list except for 2 rankings, I think Red Hood is easily better than any of the other animated movies and even better than TDK Rises and Batman begins. I get it’s hard to compare animation to live action but the story is just better. I would put it at 3rd instead of 7th. And I thinks The Batman is just a better movie than The Dark Knight. It’s a tough call sine The Batman is so new but I think the performances, action, and overall story is just a bit better than The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight is great but I think it doesn’t do as much for me as The Batman, which is saying a lot because I grew up on that movie and have it in a special place in my heart. I think the only area The Dark Knight beats The Batman are the villains. Joker and Two Face are fantastic and are my favorite parts of that movie but I feel take the focus off of Bruce and his story. I also feel like the Christian Bale’s Batman didn’t really go through the stages Batman does in the comics. Like with Pattinson we got the younger angrier Bruce who can’t see the bigger picture and just wants to be vengeance and a symbol of fear and through out the movie has to learn that being a symbol of hope is more impactful than fear. Where I feel The Dark Knight just doesn’t have that type of impact. You do have being what ever Gotham needs me to be at the end but it’s just not the same as Batman at the end of the Batman doing what he does(not trying to spoil but if you’ve seen the movie you should know what I’m talking about). It’s an instance of show don’t tell that works beautifully.
1) The Lego Batman Movie Also, I didn't gel with The Batman. I get what Reeves was going for but it didn't appeal to me personally. Riddler was great though. I'd take a whole show with him
i have watched the batman 4 times now and i am going again on this weekend, and on each successive viewing its just gets better man, personally Robert Pattinson is my favourite live action batman.🦇🦇🦇🦇 the emotion with his eyes is just awesome.
Katie Holmes was actually asked to be back in The Dark Knight but she refused cause she was shooting another film. I personally think Katie Holmes was better than Maggie Gyllenhall
This is your best video of all time the depth you provide for each movie all revolving around one character is incredible and impressive, great job Austin!
Haven't watched Austin's video yet, but Dan Murrell also lumped Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2 together, and same for The Long Halloween part 1 and 2. That could also account for the number difference.
Just watched mask of the phantasm, didn’t think it was that good. I get bruce wayne did lots but the phantasm villain was bad, joker was meh besides the voice acting.
My top 3: 1 Batman Animation (all animated films featuring batman. Not including lego batman. Too many to count so i just condensed it into one.) 2 Zack Snyder's Justice League (we see the best batman so far that Affleck can give us, despite him not getting a chance to do a solo film or trilogy..😞😔) 3 Batman V Superman Ultimate edition Didn't really care about the other batman films personally. So i dont feel the need to make a larger list. Top 3 is all i need.👌

Nice list Austin! I know a lot of people have issues with Katie Holmes in Batman begins and I don't quite understand why. I think I'm in the minority right now because I like Katie Holmes more than Maggie Gyllenhaal as the character.
Hey that’s fair! Mine is an acting thing. Her performance is really stiff for me, and almost unnatural. But I like the character itself!
Injustice was top 10 for me so good
Batman Gotham Knight was the first adult novel I ever read and what truly got me into reading books. The novelization was much better than the film and felt more cohesive and connected to The Dark Knight. I also read it picturing the movie and not multiple art styles. So this film will always have a special place in my heart because it got me into reading.
You look really good at doing reviews why don’t you do some throwback reviews
The batman and the dark Knight are some of the best movies ever made period. I adore the lego batman movie also
The batman 2022
Batman 1989
Batman begins
Batman forever
Batman mask of the phantasm
Batman mystery of the Batwoman
The dark knight
The dark knight rises
Batman returns
Batman 1966
Batman and Robin
I actually had a fun time watching Batman Forever and I recently saw it for the first time. Now the villains are really bad, which hinders the movie from being great, but I love Val Kilmer's batman/Bruce Wayne.

Didnt you get the memo
50 I was just expecting 9 lol.
Hahaha
I liked The Batman, I really did, solid 8/10.... but..... to say that its a better origin story than Batman Begins (let alone a better movie than Batman Begins)......
*sigh*......
Are you sure my guy?
100% at this point tbh haha.
The Batman was just all around better, and Katie Holmes cements it for me 😂 but clearly I love both!
I'll just do the theatrical ones lol

The Dark Knight Returns is criminally under appreciated. What a fantastic adaptation!
Do you mean Dark Knight Rises
@@arvindbaradwaj3783 nope, the animated movie. You should watch it, it'll broaden your Batman horizon from Nolanverse.
Same top 3 🔥. The Batman was phenomenal but I don’t think anything can surpass The Dark Knight.
Will you put this list on letterboxd?

WOW a whole lot of these are SHOCKING. Alot of these were done DIRTY, particularly Batman Ninja, '66, and Returns. Interesting Justice League inclusions. Haven't seen Batman (1966) yet but might one day. No plans on ever watching the Schumacher ones. I have no intention to seek out the straight to DVD ones but I'm open to the idea of catching one if I get the chance. I still think it's a little silly to include Justice League movies on a Batman list, and I will continue not to do so.
Favorite Batman Movie: The Batman (2022)
Worst Batman Movie: Batman & Robin (1997)
Austin is vengeance.
Austin is the night.
Austin is Batman! 🦇

The animated 90s series. Dark Knight trilogy. Batman Beyond series. Superman and Batman animated series. Batman 89 movie.
Best Justice League, would be that animated one, especially for the best Wonder Woman. 👌
Batman v. Superman is NOT better than Batman Returns. Give me a break.
Same top 3
Snyder cut is garbage with unbelievable plot holes.
Great list but the batman isnt an origin story...

One of my favorite batman movies is batman vs the Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles

great list. you put a ton of work into this one. i'm only part way thru so far. as a big anime fan i have batman ninja way way way higher but i understand its really out there. i haven't even watched all the batman animated movies yet impressive you took the time to. there is a new 2022 catwoman animated movie out, not sure if batman is in it though. just bought it haven't watched it yet.
I need to watch that one!
The Batman is #1 for sure for me. Good list
great video

14. Batman & Robin (1997)
Haven’t see Catwoman (2004), Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) & Batman: The Movie (1966)
1) The Lego Batman Movie
Also, I didn't gel with The Batman. I get what Reeves was going for but it didn't appeal to me personally. Riddler was great though. I'd take a whole show with him
Dang, that one hurts!

At least you think the underrated magnum opus of the Lego Batman movie is amazing
he's right the lego batman is the best batman movie
i have watched the batman 4 times now and i am going again on this weekend, and on each successive viewing its just gets better man, personally Robert Pattinson is my favourite live action batman.🦇🦇🦇🦇
the emotion with his eyes is just awesome.
Katie Holmes was actually asked to be back in The Dark Knight but she refused cause she was shooting another film. I personally think Katie Holmes was better than Maggie Gyllenhall
I’m gonna put on my tin foil hat and say that’s what they told the public hahaha
Batman Returns 🌟🌟🌟 gang rise up
“Don’t hurt me” *runs away!
Great video, Austin!!! FUN PRODUCTION
Hey Austin can you do a review and ranking for all the batman suites?
This is your best video of all time the depth you provide for each movie all revolving around one character is incredible and impressive, great job Austin!
Under the red hood is possibly the most popular animated Batman movie ever
Dan Murrell did 44, what 5 did he miss
Murrell didn't include JOSS-tice league or the Snyder cut in his ranking.
@@paradisecity0406able Edited from 6 to 5, he also did include The Batman since it was before the premiere
We did a few different ones Im pretty sure!
Haven't watched Austin's video yet, but Dan Murrell also lumped Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2 together, and same for The Long Halloween part 1 and 2. That could also account for the number difference.
batman under the red hood is top 3 imo
Just watched mask of the phantasm, didn’t think it was that good. I get bruce wayne did lots but the phantasm villain was bad, joker was meh besides the voice acting.
Dang
I understand that the dark knight is good, but the Batman is by far the better movie in my opinion, it does so much more for the character of Batman
The dark knight was a good joker movie
My top 3:
1 Batman Animation (all animated films featuring batman. Not including lego batman. Too many to count so i just condensed it into one.)
2 Zack Snyder's Justice League (we see the best batman so far that Affleck can give us, despite him not getting a chance to do a solo film or trilogy..😞😔)
3 Batman V Superman Ultimate edition
Didn't really care about the other batman films personally. So i dont feel the need to make a larger list. Top 3 is all i need.👌
