OMG he's so young and handsome, a young James Bond. I learned his tunes off of a cassette 100 fiddle tunes. You can still get it on a cd, great. He taught me all my fiddl'n tunes and I even got to a concert in my younger days. Now, I'm old and live way down in the Florida keys, so I get to watch him on UA-cam, he's still great and I've learned this set way back then and play it every chance I get. Thank you for this download and thank you Kevin for many many wonderful hours of great fiddling music and for being my first celtic fiddle teacher. Music is Love in search of a Word and it keeps you young too.
Thank you very much. This video was released around 1992. I love their music ,but this video was nowhere to be found. So ,I decided to post to You Tube. I hope that both young and old enjoy this footage.
Kevin Burke - such a soulful player. Promenade and Portland two of the finest Irish Trad albums ever. Michael's singing is wistful and moving. They are never off my CD player.
I began to learn Irish fiddle with this video, on a VHS video tape - great for guitarrists, too; you see a lot of fingers and the very personal approach of Micheál to DADGAD -. The most amazing to me about Kevin Burke is not his technique, but his feeling and elegance. I didn't found this in many fiddlers.
The three ballads that he sings on the Portland album take me to another place. Beautiful melodies and soulful singing. I can't understand a word but it doesn't matter.
Many years ago when I played symphony gigs in GA I would listen to Kevin Burke on the radio. It made the drive home so pleasant. This was in the 1980's. Perhaps the program was called Ballads Bards and Bagpipes.
@@RasWouto Most of sets in this recording are in DADGAD. Retune your guitar, and have a close look to Michéal fingers. That's the way I learnt to play this set on fiddle... ;)
I bought this on an VHS tape in 1993 that unfortunately later borrowed and lost. With this concert I began to learn to play Irish fiddle - a a couple of friends DADGAD guitar, you can see a lot of fingerings -. :D Beautiful, haunting and with a nice tempo, not the breakneck speed fashionable years later. You don't need to play a reel too fast to put a lot of power into It.
Opening tune Pigeon on the Gate. Its performance is the inverse of the 2 of them as Bothy Band members, it's the Pure Drop thoughtful, heart of the trad. In my heaven these 2, playing this so-trad way, are joined with Planxty and De Danann in all their most trad incarnations. I'd sell my house to buy pints for such a Seisun in the Sky.
I don't suppose you know any more about his "white " guitar. I have been trying to find out anything I can about Kenneth White, and this is the only place he is mentioned.
In the near-future, it will be illegal to play videos of real musicians making real music. We'll have to do it in secret, hiding from King Bieber and Queen Katy Perry...

Still amazes me that just these two, can project such an enormous sound... still loving it nearly 40 years on.
Thank you very much.

Les meilleurs musiciens que la terre d'Irlande ait porté!!!
Truly sublime, an awe inspiring demonstration of sligo music by two irish music icons.
Au niveau des duos, ils restent mon top absolu.
i will never get tired of this
Love the subtle guitar playing...
Does anyone know of a good tutorial on this kind of playing? I've recently bought Frank Killkelly's book, but it still has to arrive

Where was this video shot? It had to be early 80"s. That is Michael's "White" guitar made by a luthier from Portland Ore named Kenneth White I think.
I don't suppose you know any more about his "white " guitar. I have been trying to find out anything I can about Kenneth White, and this is the only place he is mentioned.
