Thank you for this exciting compilation - I wish Michael had sung more live on his solo tours, like he used to do with The Jacksons. But together with his dancing, I can well understand why he relied more on playback as he got older.
Interesting. He is so good at performing live, so I guess he used playback to give himself a bit of a break. From a fan’s perspective, it would’ve been better if playback fails happened more often!
In European leg of 1992, the last part of TWYMMF is supposed to be live, it’s not a playback fail like the other examples. Same for BOW in Munich and London, they are supposed to be live.
I disagree on both BOW performances. If it was meant to be live in munich, why was the playback turned on? Same with london. It's weird to think he would purposely sing live in one show, when he din't do it on the previous shows.
@@SparklySoaks Thank you for the reply! First of all, the “playback and live vocals both turned on” thing happened in other shows as well. For example, in early 1988 shows, when he did TWYMMF live, at the end of the song you can also hear the playback. He was singing the ad-libs live “give in to me, give me some time…” and the playback was the normal chorus “the way you make me feel, you really turned me on…” This happened in multiple concerts, so I believe it’s not an accident, it’s planned. Second of all, the reason why I firmly believe why him singing BOW live in London was planned, is because he missed the little ad-lib “hee”s. If you check 1:00 and 1:07 of this video ua-cam.com/video/jByCGSr61zI/v-deo.html, there are “hee”s at these two time stamps, but MJ wasn’t singing, or miming to them. When he was lip synching, he NEVER missed these “hee”s. Not a single time. But in London he missed them. I think it’s because that he knows he is singing live, and he also knows that since he is singing live, he doesn’t have to sing exactly as the playback.
@@glenxoseph The vocals in Wembley August 23 weren't heard live, they were edited in for the MTV special from the show's mic feed to make the atmosphere look better. Him missing the the "hee" was most likely just an error.
3:06 i can hear the playback starts, but gets cut, is like the sound enginers forget turn on the playback. In munich rehearsals SC they did'nt use playback, because michael was rehearsing the choreography, but michael doesn't sing live vocals like he did in Jam, so he probably planned SC would be 100% playback.
3:05 Also disproves this point, with an empty few seconds with neither live nor playback vocals. But this doesn't mean anything as the whole reason smooth criminal stopped being sung live after early US shows in 1988 was that it took too much from his voice. So he obviously didn't sing much behind the playback.
@@dmer-zy3rb it was his first dangerous concert.. so he was still able to.. thro the time then he done alit of playbak. Smooth criminal man in mirror was the ones he always done play back on from start his solo
How is tha fails... think it was only twymmf and mitm he didnt do live. From start..on bad tour. Carnt slate him for the last 2 songs after all that preforming Unbelievable..

This is good. Can you do another RARE Live Vocals (Playback fails) video where it explain the concerts from 1996-2001 maybe?
i'll probably end up doing it soon.
@@SparklySoaks Did you manage to do it? I can't find it.

Great video🙌
Would've loved to have been in the crowd for the ad-libs on that closing entry!
honestly i am pretty sure Michael always sang live regardless even if you only hear the playback. didnt the munich leaks kind of prove that?
Not the point, the point was when MJ's live voice could be heard FROM the audience when it was supposed to be playback, hence the world "Fail".
