  • While majority of you may never consider going with the SPT, there's a number of buyers looking at the 2022-2024 Subaru WRX with the SPT as their next daily driver. Today we find out if it's any good or just another CVT.
Huge thank you to Subaru of Wakefield for letting me have some time with the 2024 Subaru WRX.

I own a 22 Premium Ignition Red SPT. It's great for $35,5000 all wheel drive. I put Michelin Pilot Sport 4S' on it. The different drive modes are fun; it's like driving in a video game! Where I live, traffic, leaving work, running errands. This is more enjoyable for me! All it needs is an exhaust! Great reviews Mike!🙌

Exactly! Already did the exhaust on mine.

I put the Subaru performance mufflers on my 22 GT to give it a voice. I like them; not too loud, but I can hear the car.

@@AlanAnt that's what I have on mine. Like the sound as well.

Incomplete review of the SPT because he failed to explain the different drive modes. So, of course, I will have a go. I own a 22 GT.
I mode acts most like a regular CVT and is very smooth with gentle throttle response.
S mode acts like a traditional automatic and the shifts can be felt, but it is not super aggressive. If you use the paddles, the car will quickly resume to automatic mode.
S# mode is where it shines. It goes into an 8 speed performance mode. The throttle becomes far more sensitive and the engine is held at higher RPM. In auto mode it will shift aggressively, even downshifts aggressively when on the brakes and diving into corners. It feels and acts like a DCT. It displays what ‘gear’ you are in on the dash at all times.
If you put the car into S mode and manual mode, it will shift at redline regardless of manual setting. But, in S# mode and manual mode, you can bounce it off the rev limiter before it will shift by itself. S# mode is what really separates this from other CVTs and allows them to call it a SPT.
The GT adds adjustable dampers, adjustable steering, adjustable AWD (center differential) and adjustments to Eyesight (how aggressively it will accelerate back up to speed), and adjustable climate controls (comfort mode backs off on the fan speed).
The SPT defaults to 45% front 55% rear power distribution to give the car better turn in and sportier handling characteristics.

Have owned a 23 wrx premium spt for about 6 months. I purchased it because I wanted all the safety stuff. I spend 90% of my time commuting so I wanted something that would be easy to drive in traffic during the day and have fun on the weekend.
My experience with the spy has been fine. Around town it's smooth and drives like a traditional automatic. When you put it on manual mode and use the paddles it shifts pretty quickly too. Don't see any performance penalty compare to the manual.
The selectable drive modes are also nice. Around town I can just leave it in Intelligent mode and cruise around like im in a normal sedan with a normal automatic.
If I wanna have some fun I just put it in sport sharp put it in manual and go have. Think what subaru has created here is really nice balance between a daily driver and a performance car. I never get bored driving it.
I also agree with you about the suspension!. It is amazing even in the stock set up!.

I've just recently test drove a WRX SPT. Great car but in the intelligent mode it's really loud. It is actually quieter in sport mode it seems.

@Vladg111 yeah, I got an aftermarket exhaust pretty quick after buying it. The stock exhaust is pretty loud in I mode and VERY LOUD on start up. This new one makes it loud where you want it to be! 🤣.

Does the paddle shifter pop or crackles? I don’t think it does but just wanted to ask. I’m thinking about manual, but also want the spt for convenience of choosing to “shift” when I feel like it

As an owner of a new CVT categorically it is hands down the best. WRX as excelled way beyond all competitors from BMW to Porsche.

I have a 22 spt tuned to 320/320 and I’m at about 35k miles with no issues with the spt or motor. Hit up Drunkmann tuning Anthony for the best tune 🤙🏽

Thinking about purchasing a limited with a SPT - Curious though, wonder how they do in the snow with a good set of winter tires?

    • @bcatchris
      @bcatchris 4 місяці тому +1

It's Great! I live in Ohio & have Pilot Sport 4 All-Seasons, those are great in the snow. Winter Tires would be even better!

Skier in Washington. Even with just all seasons I've had no issues in snow at all.

I currently drive a 2016 White Subaru WRX Limited CVT and I have no problems what so ever with the CVT. I get allot of flak for having a CVT, but I don't feel it dulls the driving experience of a WRX at all. You put on some front and rear strut tower bars and thicker front/rear whiteline sway bars and it performs perfectly fine.

Why didn't you mention any of the other drive modes.

Automatic is great for people who have injuries and have hard time shifting. What's the best way to learn driving manual? And is it hard?

    • @Spectre-wd9dl
      @Spectre-wd9dl 4 місяці тому +1

If you have decent bodily coordination it's pretty easy to learn. You're going to need some finesse in your right foot. If you're a clunky, uncoordinated person, idk, good luck.

Learn to ride a Motorcycle first, After that your understanding of shifting, clutch and gear change / speed is much better and learning a manual car is super simple.

    This review isn’t it! 👎🏼
You drove the entire time in sport mode. Sport sharp mode gives the transmission a completely different character.
Why do people drive cars in cool weather with the AC on?
Driving with the AC on reduces the power of the engine.
“If you’re ready then I’m ready” Taking a line from Rati’s Rides c’mon up your game!!!

If you can swing 10k. The Audi S3 is much better. Better engine, better trans, faster and better mpg. Mine runs 12.8 @ 107 stock.
