2:36 that's why calisthenics athletes can take body shots better than most gym dudes. They developed a strong core already and can be on par with martial artists in core strength. I'm not saying gym is bad but gym is for shaping cool looking physique while calisthenics lean towards strength building
And not only in calisthenics. Almost every sport needs a good coordination of lower and upper body, so learning how to engage the core (therefore strengthening it) in every exercise you make is essential for creating a solid base to create more power in every movement that is needed, without compromising your health in any way
Curious... From a while ago, when I did pushups or dips, I tried to focus on tightening my abs, just so I could focus on something else to distract from the tiredness and sore muscles, and also to try and train more areas at once. Glad to see it urns out I was doing well without knowing! :) Great video, very informative😁😁
Forgot the most important part of engaging the core. Not only do you pull your stomach in you have to inhale and use that inhale to pressurize your lower midsection. Once you feel that pressure it helps engage the muscles on your back as well and you will feel it engage and then you can breathe
Well I guess this video mostly covers it. The core's main function is to stabilize the body during heavy strength training. So you just start to consciously engage in all body weight exercises. From there, just build to more and more advanced forms, for example: Push Ups -> Handstands -> Dips -> Handstand Push Ups -> Planche In order to do the Planche, you need a seriously strong core.
I used to do Taekwondo but my coach never allowed me to take belt exam back then but he did say that after like 4 years of thorough training my skills and movements were more polished than an average red belt. Back then I was really flexible, after looking at this video I understood that my core was just well trained for adapting to new movements easily. I left taekwondo like 4-5 years ago because I got bored and never bothered to train my core properly so nowadays when I suddenly get the mood to do horse stance or a sprint I feel like my back aching or during the sprint I suddenly lose balance within my body. If I understand correctly then the issue is that I neglected training my core but god knows best as to what the issue may be since I ain't an expert
I just started back up training about a month ago because I was injured for 2 months and what I've really been focusing on is scapular awareness wrist mobility and keeping my core tight. A good way to practice it is hollow body holds on the ground and the bar
A better method for me to embrace der core is: 1. Push your core on your lateral chain inwards with your hands (belly hight) 2. Press your hands with your abs outside 3. keep and remind that feeling of embracing the core on 360°
This topic requires a disclaimer for all the people suffering from an anterior pelvic tilt. (That thing which is responsible for your lil belly, even though your bodyfat is low.. not the ovaries, that's women specific) LOOK UP A SHORT & EASY CORE ACTIVATION ROUTINE. NOT EASY TO GET STARTED WITH THOSE EXERCISES, THEY'RE KIND OF EASY TO GET WRONG, BUT IT'S WORTH IT AND REQUIRES ABOUT 10 MINUTES EVERY DAY.
So pulling the abs in (tensing inner abs) is important, rather than tensing the outer ones (what people more naturally do when displaying a 6-pack and tensing up :s? Why so?
When you do push up, squeeze your abs upwards so your whole body is flat. In pull up or chin up, use your core to stop your legs from swinging. If your core is correctly engaged, you should feel it's burning and tight.
@@gini7950 My pleasure. When you do pull/chin up, depress your shoulder blades or keep em retracted, pull your self up slowly while your abs try to keep your body and legs straight. You should feel your abs throughout the motion.
To make you understand even better, it's like you're trying to hold your fart or not letting yourself taking out of loo (but don't do that, you'll end up having gonorrhea 😅😅)
I was just talking about this today. Algorithm musta got me, lol. Specifically how disengaging the core between exercises has a profound relaxing effect vs keeping the core engaged between multiple exercises. It seems to add a level of endurance training.
Breathe normally through your nose, keeping your core engaged throughout. It's like trying to hold in a sneeze during a staring contest - tricky at first, but you'll get the hang of it 😁

I've been doing planks for my regular workout beside running. Probably for the last 3 months, but my lowerback hurts after planks. Is it because I over work my back or do I need to fix my plank technique?
Lower back pain during planks often indicates incorrect form. Make sure your core is fully engaged - think about pulling your belly button towards your spine. Don't hold the position longer than you can maintain proper form. Try recording yourself or having someone check your form.

Yeah calisthenics is quite handy and more useful in real life than simple bodybuilding.
