Hey everyone, let me know what you want to see next!
Do you offer music theory course from basic by any chance?
How you practise to highlight the chord changes all over the fretboard
What kind of scales do you use to compose?
Thank you for this lesson anything like Holdsworth and fusion licks and harmony in metal soloing
Do you have a practice routine? And what does your practice sessions looks like
I just grabbed my beer and my guitar and i am ready to go!!!
The best guitarist 2023 🔥❤️
I think a lot of metal guitarists are like me and while we know a couple of scales and basic theory, we aren't really able to understand a lot of the things you discuss in this video. A large portion of your audience lacks jazz training, so It would be cool if you broke down the concepts a bit more during your explanations. Like when you say you used the 3 tonal centers, maybe go into a bit more detail of the theory behind tonal centers.
A big help might also be using diagrams. Musical theory nomenclature can get daunting pretty quickly, so it might be best to also show these things on the fretboard. So you can have diagrams of the fretboard that highlight all the notes in the key we're currently in, the notes in the current underlying chord, and then on top of that shows the scale the lead guitar is playing, all in different colours or next to each other. Saying F#maj7#11/D with an F# lydian scale might be enough info for some guitarist, but actually showing those notes on the fretboard would just help an enormous amount for guys like me.
I think just understanding that there are a bunch of dumb-dumbs like me who are watching your videos and then deciding how you want to deal with us would be helpful going forward. This type of content takes a lot of effort, and the more you explain the more effort it is gonna take. A course that covers basic jazz theory for metal guitarists that can bridge the gap would be extremely valuable as well.
But whatever you decide to do, I'll definitely be watching! Love your playing!
Hi Rafael,
It’s actually great to have it this way because it helps hear the chord progression and the fine colors of your harmony. Sure it is less metal, but it is more music writing, and even at that you are really good. Thank you for what you do and for being so inspiring in this day and age where talent is rarely met with the work required to achieve greatness, which obviously you did so well.
This video is a treasure trove of ideas
It’s 4:30 am and I am watching this ❤❤ thanks a lot for this lesson Rafael . You are a legend 🙌🏻
This is awesome, please, keep doing these analysis of your solos, Thanks!
Lovely video, supremely insightful and I like the production style, stepping through and discussing annotated analysis.
As for what kind of content to make? There is a dearth of skilled guitarists teaching theory. I have never been able to apply my academic training in music theory to modern music, especially metal. Anything you can provide as to insights regarding the study and practice to become as fluent on the guitar with theory as I am on paper would be wonderful...
And not just an analysis, but also your process. You said many times "I just chose to do that". What leads you to those choices?
I think an analysis like this for all of your compositions would be most welcome. I definitely could use some pointers for the intro to Iconic, as the time feel is still completely lost on me.
Excellent content.
best guitarist ever
