A female vocalist really changes the context of the song... In the FF version, he is singing about becoming the rapist that caused his conception (replicating his father). With a female vocalist, she is singing about being a rape victim (replicating her mother). This creeps me the fuck out to listen to.
Interesting interpretation of the lyrics. I’ve always heard it sung from the POV of someone who feels their own existence is invalid because they are a product of rape.

Fair play... I haven't. I listened to some of their initial offerings and didn't impress me much, especially with their relationship with Kamelot. I do owe them a fair listen. ^_^
Fear Factory are my favorite metal band of all time and, while I am not a fan, I think Epica are a pretty cool band for what they do. Unfortunately I don't think FF's industrial style suited them as much as they hoped to. Even though Simmone is a great singer she sounds off here. The brutal vocals are horribole. Still, I am happy they gave it a shot and I don't think the cover deserves the hate it gets. Chill out people, it's music, not war.
Not bad ... but may have been better with growls on verses and mixes on transition imho (I like the choruschorus) , to respect both Burton's parts and Epica's gimmicks Makes me prefer Lacuna's Depeche Mode or Arch Enemy's Tears for Fears covers

This song was created in 1995, that's 17 years ago, there's no way epica could ever come out with such a power track like this one. Instrumentals are extremely faithful to the original. Vocals aren't so hot.
