- This alternative history video follows a timeline in which the Arab Caliphate conquers Europe. Without the civil wars which shook the Islamic empire early on in its existance , the arabs would have likely been able to conquer the Byzantine Empire and the rest of the former Roman Empire. This video is also a summary of the history of the Rashidun caliphate and the problems that occured over the Islamic succession. Namely between the cousin of the prophet Muhammad and the governer of Syria Muawiyah.

@@hs5312 not to forget how far out of the heartland it would be. My idea of how the alternative would work is if Kan Tervel decides to not help The East Roman capital. The Muslims would be able to maintain the siege for much longer if they could forage for supplies. Konstantinope won't be able to beat the land army anyways. Maybe also the Navy doesnt get beaten by the East Romans. The city will still be very hard to conquer but its 1 thing to worry about that and another thing to be starving out and surrounded by two enemy forces.

Also I was curious if you could have included all of Continental Europe it would feel strange seeing a United European country stretching from Iberia in the west to the rural mountains of Russia and the caucuses in the east except under the rule of a Islamic or Muslim empire. If I were to think about scenario where Islam manages to win I would bet on that siege. The war in west is a joke compared to the army sent to take over that city. My assumption is the Arabs couldnt catch Kan Tervel by suprise. Highly doupt they brought enough horses to Thrace to deal with the threat.

It's worth mentioning that Andalusians (and West Africans) might have reached the Americas (pre-1492) in our own timeline.
Anyways, it's possible that the same economic rivalries we saw in our timeline (Venice and the Ottomans vs the rest of Europe) also spring up in a Muslim form in this timeline. We saw similarly heated internal Muslim rivalries in the Andalusian Taifas.
@@juwebles4352 Probably not. In our timeline, Al-Andalus devolved into petty demilitarized Taifas who would often rely on armies from Morocco (Almoravids, Almohads) to save them. However, these Amazigh rulers never really saw Al-Andalus as a central part of their empire, so whenever their holdings in Africa were being threatened, they would gladly pull their resources out of Europe in order to protect what they perceived to be their mainland. This wouldn't happen in the alternate timeline.
In our new scenario, there would be several neighboring emirates who saw Europe as a central part of their empire. They would have no reason to pull their resources out of their main domains. And even if they demilitarized, they still wouldn't be as small or as weak as the Andalusian Taifas. A coalition of these emirates could easily crush the remaining petty Christian states.
After that, it would just be a matter of governing the people fairly in order to prevent rebellions.
Egypt had a older history with christianity than all these places put together, if they converted, I don't see why Greeks wouldnt. As for slavs, they werent even christian at that point, similarly for the balkans.

There are mush better scenarios such as when Musa bin Nusayr (the ruler of north africa and the one who conquered Iberia) said that the Caliph prevented him for completing his conquests to the mediterranean and constantinople until he reached damascus

@Kuffar punisher what's with you abd being wrong? Most of the convertions happened after the crusades and during the ottoman empire(and that's mostly middle eastern territories). Also the slavs that converted were in the caucaus or became turks.

I am mostly getting this from the "Samuel Hawley" channel but both had designs on China and China was weaker than it seems at this time, having like a tenth of its actual claimed army, like even the army that defeated the Japanese on land in the Imjin war was smaller than the Japanese one and they were very slow to mobilize, like around a hundred pirates terrorized southern China for over a month ravaging large sections of land before the army came to stop them and it took similarly long to intervene in Korea. As much as i hate it i think the (fitna) civil war inevitable because the original Khilafah system requires the convenience of the elder Sahabah (the Messenger's companions) so the transition between a somewhat republican system to a monarchy was bound to happen.

Persia/Iran really wanted to create a massive distinction & barrier between itself & the rest of the Islamic world (most noticeably during the Iranian Safavid empire) & hence the separation of Islam into two powerful branches that didn't like each other would have been inevitable anyways ( *under another name if not under the banner of Shia* )
So this separation itself would've definitely resulted into several civil wars & regional powers, which supported either of the branches, to claim independence from the caliphates & hence weaken the Islamic world greatly !
So perhaps even if Islam managed to conquer all of Europe, it would have fallen way much faster anyways cuz apart from its own holy civil wars , Islamic caliphates would have been stretched thin on fighting Christianity in Europe as well.

Cuz the Turks in central Asia were not that powerful (up untill Genghiz Khan showed up & united them & Mongolians) & they were mostly divided & living a nomadic life of raiding , *so I seriously doubt that they would have agreed to fight for a religious goal in holy wars or whatever* , but perhaps the caliphates would have been able to hire some mercenaries from them although not that big or powerful enough to make a difference.
@@ryansmith8345 I think a similar thing could have been said about the Berbers but they were easily recruited. Loot and the Arabs too being a nomadic culture makes it pretty easy to recruit peoples like the Turks and Berbers and the early Caliphates weren't really as strict on Orthodoxy as long as you aren't a preacher, so nominal Turk conversions for loot will work.
I doupt it would be able. Its endless armies wouldnt have motivation to go further. Good or not vs the Romans it doesnt mean there wont be a suprise in some forest and a whole Muslim army buried under the carpet. The loot in Lostantinopole would also make them easy going. It brings convenience and satisfaction to have all that. At first with such an achievement you would want to rest. The average Ali would want to go home finally after so long siege and so much suffering. I highly doupt they would have 50k soldiers willing to go further into Danude frontier. There ain't going to be enough wealth to satisfy such campaigns. Campaigns of 20 to 30k soldiers be good too but could get wiped out.

I wouldn’t agree as The Romans and the Persians had more men and technology at the time I would say the Muslim conquest were successful because of Brilliant commanders and leaders like Khalid bin Walid and the four rightly guided caliphs and sad bin abi waqqas. Correct, it would still be early medieval. Sharia law as applied to economics and everything in general holds societies back. Muslims blame the lack of prosperity of their countries on "muh colonialism" even though there are some countries that weren't touched by anything but Islamic/Arab/Turkic colonialism, and they've had at minimum a century to recover, or at most, several centuries. The reason they are poor, illiterate crapholes is because their own religion holds them back. They can't practice usury (like getting a mortgage), they can't bequeath companies to the next generation (Sharia insists any business a father built must be dissolved upon his death, it's haram to pass it down to any sons), any inheritance that does go the next generation needs to be divided up equally, thus ensuring the dilution of wealth over time instead of concentrating it, and so on. It's pretty much every terrible economic idea in one insanely violent fundamentalist religious package. So yeah, unless they flouted their own laws, which I'm sure many would, they'd be very behind. But even the Islamic nations that do ignore these aspects of Sharia (but conveniently not aspects where you stone people to death), like Saudi Arabia, are only rich because they won the oil lottery (and then had to get the west and their technology to come and extract it).

@@perniciousseizurehellio3438 i mean the reason why the MENA region is so unstable today is because the influence of both islamic and non-islamic hegemons treating the place like their proxy playpen and the lack of strong industrialization and leaders in the middle east. the ottomans would still hold the territories and do a bad job at industrializing them. if europe were to become islamic and prosper i dont see much incentive for them to develop the MENA region just because they technically share the same faith. European colonisation would still happen, and It's not like Europe did a good job at developing christian colonies like Latin America, Philippines, Central to South Africa etc. Soviets would probably still exist so Afghanistan would still be an unstable proxy war zone. Maybe Libya, Iraq and Syria would fare better in this timeline but i don see how Europe being islamic would change the fact that Gaddafi, Bashar and Saddam would eventually rise to power and turn the three nations into a corrupt rats nest. The oil rich gulf nations of today would probably still be rich nations with little incentive to diversity their economies or liberalize. The only winners in the middle east i can possibly imagine are Palestine and maybe Iran. No reason for 1979 islamic revolution would mean Iran becomes much friendlier with the West, able to industrialize with a strong geography and population, able to liberalize under the shah, would still be a full on monarchy or constitutional monarchy, able to capitalize on massive oil and gas reserves, stealing the thunder from the gulf nations, having full support from the west when Saddam attacks means Iran will crush Iraq even more than they already did. Iran becomes the hegemon of the Middle East. And possibly no Israel means all positives for Palestine for obvious reasons. but knowing how backstab-y contemporary MENA leaders are, Palestine could possibly still get the short end of the stick, somehow.
