I was going to comment the same. Amanda Bynes was getting dragged for not speaking out, which is wild. The abuse she endured and her issues she deals with daily...and she's getting harassed over not giving a statement on this? So messed up. But yeah, can't believe she wasn't part of this conversation. I think Sunny would rethink her position if she knew this full context.

They should have watched the documentary on ID Channel or Max
Joy asking what did Arianna had to do with this🤦🏽‍♀️.
You can tell they only saw clips or heard about it
The adults who worked on the show were scared to and didn't speak up, so why do they think kids would
They don't know what these kids had to go through
When one of the mom's spoke up, about how Dan was acting, they fired her son Bryan Hearne from All That.
So the abuse still went on by Dan and the 3 predators like Brian Peck.

Sunny isn’t getting it. This isn’t a matter of making a public statement. All of those kids were CHILDREN in the public eye and whether or not they witnessed or experienced abuse, it is not their obligation to speak on it bc the public demands it. The public has no true idea what they experienced. Sunny needs to take a seat. You can stand for what’s right but their voices are not owed to people who aren’t in their shoes.

She claims to be an advocate for child abuse victims, but this just sours me on that notion. Frankly, I question if she had a traumatizing childhood. I did, and can say from experience that I would not be able to speak publicly on some things. With regards to Drake, I could tell that he was sometimes having to remind himself to breathe. Imagine if he had tried to speak out at the height of his mental issues or drug addiction. Bottom line is that we just don't know what the kids went through, what they remember and what they can currently cope with facing.

I don’t think Ariana Grande is a traumatized person but more of an opportunist. She does not want to talk about Dan Schneider shooting foot play scenes with her because she doesn’t want her brand to be associated with the abuse others are finally speaking out about. The problem is she has a big enough platform to get the ball rolling on accountability but she is choosing to leave others out to dry because she is set financially so this doesn’t NEED to be resolved for her. When Amanda Bynes gets blacklisted for speaking up everyone says “but Ariana worked with Dan too doing similar scenes and she wasn’t bothered by it so you’re probably exaggerating” so yes bigger celebrities have an impact even when they think they don’t.

I think everyone is definitely not on the same page. One thing is speaking out about crimes being committed that you witnessed another is making a public display of support for a victim to appeace audience members. Josh Peck doesn't owe us a public display of support he did things the right way by reaching out privately and giving Drake his complete support. Josh Peck himself didn't witness any of the abuse that Drake experienced so it's not his fault that he didn't speak out. Maybe in the future when the time is right he can make a public announcement encouraging people to speak up if they see something wrong but right now it's all about standing behind his friend in support. Neither Josh or Drake owe us anything else. I wish them both the best

Politically, I agree influential people must come public, but to say how people traumatized when they were a children (being a victim or witness) should behave is not the right way to discuss this. Actually, it's sad how the focus of the topic was completely shifted. Beyond "who should do what" they could have talked about what was actually brought up in the documentary. Sad, it seems like some people in the table didn't even watch the documentary to comment it.

As someone who experienced childhood trauma, Sara is right the adult brain cannot go back and re-experience that trauma objectively. And Sunny saying that as an adult those who witnessed should come forward without the consent of the obused person could had a detrimental effect on their current adult life as a prosecutor working in child abuse cases she should know better.

Is Sunny seriously condemning the victims of this circumstance more than the actual offenders? This segment should have been about the documentary and how a children's network allowed abuse. Instead it was about Sunny sitting there all smug, and victim blaming because "no one spoke up". If this were about all black women being the victims in this documentary, her tone and words would have been a lot different

I remember this happening to women who worked with Harvey Weinstein in the weeks after that came out. Women on talk shows shaming women who didn't speak out even though it was so clear that any of them could have been victims as well. This lady should check herself and apologize.

    I agree with Sarah.
Coming from a trauma-informed lens, one doesn’t always know what happened when they were younger-and finding out in adulthood maybe traumatic. It takes time to process…and many times, people may not want to use public platforms because it could be re-traumatizing or seen as an attention-grabbing.
I do think the discussions do need to be had, though, surrounding how many child actors have been treated in the industry.

I'm sorry but it's absolutely hypocrital of Sunny of saying "no one has to use it (the platform) but they should use it for good" I wanna ask did you, Sunny & Sara use your platform for good when you came out on national tv & fed into the mob that forced & bullied Catherine, Princess of Wales, to come out when it was very clear she wasn't ready too & announce her cancer diagnoses when all she wanted was time & grace to let her 3 young children finish school & tell them before telling the world.

Why is what happened to Drake Bell labeled as "allegations"? The perpetrator confessed to what he did in a recorded conversation as well as pleaded no contest to the charges and was convicted of the crime. Sounds pretty clear to me that those aren't allegations. Also the perp didn't appeal the conviction hmmmmm

I say this as a sexual assault survivor myself, I get where Sunny is coming from-I just didn’t like how she said it, and I think all the women made salient points. When I told my mum what happened to me, and I had to go through the trauma of telling the cops, etc, I told her I should have kept it to myself, and she told me, that I did the right thing because it could happen to someone else, if it already hadn’t, and that could stop them. However, it’s not easy, and not everyone can do, but it still, unfortunately, needs to be done.

I agree with Sara and Alyssa in this segment. We don’t know what other Nickelodeon’s stars seen or were victim to. If they DID see and/or experience abuse, especially as a child, I’m sure there’s trauma to work through and as an ally I think it’s better to support them then to push them to make a public statement. If they didn’t see and/or experience abuse, I agree with Sara then I think being supportive to the victims is much more important than making a public statement especially in haste. Hearing about abuse from someone you know will probably make you recall all your interactions with them and perhaps question some of them now in hindsight but to make a statement before you delve into all that I think would be silly.

As a harsh as what Sunny said might sound, the predatory behavior only ends when someone speaks up. In many cases predators feel empowered because they know their victims to be silent. Quite sure if you are a parent you will tell your child to let you know if someone is harming them immediately. You’re not going to say to them tell me on your own time. Now I will acknowledge it is tricky with kids but if you we let kids know at an early age that someone making any sexual advances to them is unacceptable perhaps they will feel brave enough to say it in the moment.

Sunny is wrong. Completely. Those with platforms MUST be selective and timely. One minute society criticizes them for not speaking up, and then, when they speak up, that same society says, “look, you’re making it all about you!”
Sunny doesn’t even follow her own advice. She’s admitted plenty of times over the years that she did not speak up. Yet, has the arrogance to say that every celebrity should. She talks so much about not taking her experience away from her, yet sure does have a lot of arrogant demands of how others express their own experience.
All of it, its easy for her to say.

We need to teach our kids to talk about it if someone (adults or older kids) is hurting them or abusing them or they are witnessing adults doing bad behavior to other children in a way that the child feels uncomfortable. These days you can’t leave your children with any adult. It’s hard to trust anyone around your kids now.

As someone who watched it and as a kid who watched a lot of these shows as a kid, watching the clips back that they showed a lot of those acts were very weird and sexually charged under the context of “comedy” on top of having people working who had absolutely no right to be around children. While I understand what Sunny is trying to say, I’m with Sara. If people want to speak up about this documentary and give their experience of what happened to them or what they witnessed, they would have but they’re not obligated to do so just because we the public harass them to say something, it’s not right. What if they do say something and it’s different than what we want them to say? Then what? Reaching out to them privately to me is the much better way than to do it publicly.

people that force themself on you don't make announcements that they're about to perpetrate. a lot of shame and coercion is used to quiet the victims. if people do speak up there's a lot of cya bc really, no one wants to get mixed up in it and victim blame/shaming. not so conducive to speaking up or out in defense for reasons that can only be speculated upon until people come out and say what's what. i find it hurtful even if unintentional, these are the results of everyone's trauma. yes, i will assume that everyone involved has experience some that's made them/us all behave in ways. imo.
