The rules of being a costumed character have remained pretty much unchanged to this day. It's important to know the character that you're performing as. You need to be convincing. Don't just stand there and do little to nothing. This is what separates a character from someone in a costume.
She really did a great job during this period when she was head of the dept. Some of the best showtape were produced during this time...for CEC and Showbiz Pizza
It's mostly true because of laziness, while some people just don't want to perform as Chuck. On the flip side, there are people who WANT to become Chuck and they are truly AMAZING performers. They're out there, but there need to be more.
I have an old Chuck E. Outfit like this. The tie was glued to the head. My brother got it from the Manger of a Showbiz Pizza. It doesn't have the yellow hat band anymore.
Wow, this is really cool Richard! It even has Julia Kamen as Chuck E.!! It's weird how they have a rocker stage at a former Showbiz Pizza Place... I guess they just removed the 3-stage and put an entirely new stage.
mascots cannot talk but can have ways to communicate “Putting on the costume, walking around and waving isn’t enough” Face characters do speak because they’re real-live people or humans “Do your hair and makeup”

This was so cool -- thanks for posting!! I miss the original Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theaters as envisioned by Nolan Bushnell, so it's awesome to be able to see them in the old clips you have. I look forward to checking them all out.
this is so creepy.... "some kids are a little hesitant about letting chuck e touch them but they still want the attention" "chuck e knows he can get away with a lot at this table. he’s singled out one guest for some of his special treatment. this birthday girl is already familiar with chuck e’s antics. she knows he’s just playing." "this party was so trusting with chuck e he could get away with almost anything"
This video helped me out quite a bit in learning to perform the kangaroo mascot I perform as for the local baseball team. And yes, quite a few kids do pull my tail when I'm in the costume!
How to put on the Chuck E. Cheese walkaround character nowadays: 1. Start with the blue jeans. Push your feet through the pant legs and put the shoulder straps over your shoulders. 2. Put on the red sneakers. Push the cuffs of the jeans through the top of the shoes. Tie the laces if necessary. 3. The hands must go on before putting on the shirt. 4. The shirt goes on next. The sleeves should cover your arms. 5. The head is the last thing to go on. Make sure it's the right adjustment.
6. When you go out on the floor, don't talk. Your voice is different from (sadly) Jaret Reddick's. 7. Expect to get beaten up by both kids and fans of Avenger and PTT/Showbiz Chuck. 8. No signing autographs or writing while in costume. We don't yet have autograph training like Disney does. If a child does ask why Chuck can't write, here are some suggestions for things you can say, for preserving the magic. "He's so busy performing that he doesn't have time to sign autographs right now. Maybe later." "He's practicing his handwriting just like you are." ----- Next, how to put on the current Helen Henny costume. ----- For its part, parent company Showbiz Pizza released a statement denying that Brannan has been fired. Instead, they said they were simply replacing him for one new advertising campaign. "Brannan was not fired from Chuck E. Cheese's, rather we simply chose to utilize new voice talent for the original music we have written as part of a TV advertising campaign in partnership with The Richards Group," the statement reads. "On several occasions prior to the release of Chuck E.'s new single last week, we communicated to Brannan that his primary responsibilities with our in-store entertainment group would not change." "There is still plenty of opportunity for Duncan to provide more of his voice talent and services for Chuck E. Cheese's in the future if he chooses to do so."
This is a fun way to make a training tape. Having child fun, even if it's only the employees that will see it. That's how you know they cared. And then Rockstar Chuck came by. Most now just walk out and throw a bunch of tickets emotionlessly, and then they go back inside.
8:00 "Chucky knows he can get away with a lot at this table. He singled out one guest for his special treatment.... 8:20 "This party was so trusting of Chucky he could get away with alllmost anything."
I got to be Chuck when I worked at his place in High School. The thing I didn't like: they never washed the costume. There was a guy who worked in the kitchen who didn't take too many showers, and you could always tell when he wore the suit during that day.
Happy for you! My two favorite characters are Chucke and Helen. Im going there tomorrow! But I never see any of the other characters like Helen and Mr.Munch come out. But at least the staff is nice and friendly!: )
The newer training video kept my attention way easier then this one seems to have...but I have to say that the best part was "Jewl, your vest needs straightning"...i keep playing that part over and over .

I'm thinking about auditioning to be one of the mascots at my university, and I think I have a little bit of an idea of what to expect when putting on a costume, although the designs will probably be much different.
Karim Kraku YES. How would I go about making the animatronic's costumes in the cheapest way possible? You guys have databases on this stuff, don't you?
Karim Kraku That's what I was thinking. I've never used those programs, but it can't be that difficult, can it? *THREE DAYS LATER* I've got about 10 seconds.
A good technique if the kids were being bad: Give them an intense "bear hug." The kids get the message that you're bigger and can crush or suffocate them at will, and the parents think you're just being friendly.
I feel like Chuck should be able to put a small bit of cake on the birthday child's face! It's part of the tradition! (Or maybe that's just me and how I had my birthdays? Because I didn't consider my birthday complete without one)

Anyone else feel calm
And peaceful while watching any kind of 80’s/90’s footage
She really did a great job during this period when she was head of the dept. Some of the best showtape were produced during this time...for CEC and Showbiz Pizza
Notice how gentle Chuck E.'s being with the baby.
Why do I get the sinking feeling that nobody actually pays attention to these rules and just throws on the suit?
Sanka Jones true XD
Yep
Chuck E. Chéese
It's mostly true because of laziness, while some people just don't want to perform as Chuck.

The reason chuck E was sad was because the person in side was thinking "I just got a divorce ok?"
lol
OmegaReviews a divorce from who? how o u know that...?
Nah, Helen just yelled at him and now he's depressed
mascots cannot talk but can have ways to communicate

This is one of the earliest videos i ever watched on UA-cam.
Man, I haven't stepped in a chuck e cheese in years, used to go all the time when I was a kid.
You should go! It's fun.
Rockafireshowbiz yeah
Same here. Chuck E Cheese was part of my childhood. I had a birthday party there.
I will maybe go when the cough is done
Julia Kamen is Brilliant as Chuck! She REALLY bring it to life...That version of Chuck's costume is really nice ...especially the feet!

Yes, Chuck E. Cheese the costume actually appeared at SPP. That’s why you see Billy Bob!
