The man or woman who divorces their spouse commits adultery. That is equal. BUT THEN it is not equal. Then it only says that it is adultery to marry a divorced WOMAN! So the gender differences still stand. A single woman who marries a divorced man does not sin. And a man divorced BY his does not sin if he marries.
If I file for divorce from an adulterous husband (ongoing, unrepentant, sent me away) but I remain single, have I sinned? I am struggling with the fact that *I* filed and not him, since it seems that women were not allowed to file.

There’s an easy solution here, bring back the death penalty for adultery. After all Jesus never did away with the death penalty. Then the innocent party is free to remarry, no muss, no fuss. And if that’s “unchristian”, then Ephesians 5:25 requires Mike to unalive himself so his ex wife can enter heaven. It requires the husband to give his life exactly as Jesus did, in order for his former wife to enter heaven. After all God is not illogical, and this is the exact language of the plain text of the scriptures.

There are verses saying it is a sin for man to divorce his wife, a woman to divorce her husband and that it is sin to marry a divorced WOMAN. Nothing about it being a sin to marry a divorced man.

You listen to your pastor because he is right - if you have been committed adultery against or a former spouse abandoned you - not if you are the guilty party - you are free to remarry, though you might choose to stay single. They have broken the covenant they had with you. I'm fed up of "Christians" trying to put the fear of hellfire into believers who want to do the right thing and marry and stay faithful a second time around. Most churches which have a proper regard for both the Bible and pastoral care have this right and will marry a couple, with counselling, if they are convinced that they are not the instigators of divorce. I don't believe that Christ wanted to hold his people hostage to the sinful misbehaviour of others, in Matthew 19 the context is casual and callous dumping of powerless women by their husbands for no real reason so this is why he sounds harsh.

Well said are you are 100% right on thei topic. I also had the blessing from my church to marry a non Christian as they were considered never married to begin with which is actually false. God marries everyone whether they know of God or not. I had God tell me to read and understand the Mathew verses you quoted and found this exception was written only to the Jews during their bethrothal period before marriage proper as was still considered their marriage partner in a sense but called fornication not adultery due to this reason. Thus God allows a breakup during the betrothal only just like Joseph was going to do to St Mary. After marriage proper then they are fully married and no exceptions are allowed.

Yes. They both say FORNICATION in the CORRECT English translations, NOT sexual immorality or anything else. Matthew, being written to JEWS is clearly referring to the Jewish betrothal period BEFORE MARRIAGE and that's why it's NOT REPEATED (except it be for fornication) in the gospels of Luke and Mark on the same matter. Paul also uses NO exception clause in his mention of marriage in Romans(7:1-3), 1 Corinthians (7:10-11;39) or Ephesians (5:25-33).

When God divorced Israel for her whoredom/spiritual adultery, He no longer considered her His wife (Hosea 2:2). True God is not illogical. So why would He divorce Israel for her whoredom but not allow His creation to do the same?
Romans 7 refers to a couple that's still married. Of course if a woman is still married and goes and marries another, then she is an adulteress. Again, according to God (Hosea 2:2) He and Israel were no longer husband and wife when He divorced her for her whoredom.
When Jesus was talking to the woman at the well (John 4), He acknowledged every marriage (and remarriage) she had.

The essence of the encounter is that Jesus received the woman as she was - having been married 5 times - and did not condemn her. Yes DIVORCE is permitted for FORNICATION, but not ADULTERY; which is what God considers a remarriage to be after divorce.

Benny Halbert No, I’m very uneducated, 8th grade level, no formal philosophy training. I sometimes just question people when they teach others something about life from their bible and it’s just not truth. So many sometimes well meaning people have polluted and confused the minds of others with false theology. Many self professing Christians don’t even read and study their bibles at all, at best a little once a week when told to. They just rely on what their preacher tells them for about 20 minutes per week. Talk about being led blind. So many are being easily deceived into destructive lies. But we can’t control anybody, only ourselves. Just recently started dabbling into philosophy and stoicism. Was thinking of reading the book, Plato’s letters, and Marcus Aurelius meditations. You got any philosophy book recommendations?

Churches need to preach this. There are so many in the church who are divorced and remarried and claim God took them out of their first marriage and brought them to a Godly man. Or they believe they are "once saved always saved". I am divorced myself and just finding this out. I guess I will be single forever but if that's God's will then it will be done.
The thought that you'll be single forever is a lie of the enemy of your soul. It's not God’s will for you to be alone if that's not what you desire. He needs the faith of your heart involved in His plan for the restoration of your marriage, not involved in the lies of the enemy. Only God c@n give your husband a new heart and convict him of sin. But at the same time your heart also needs to be faith that God wants to and is able to restore your marriage. Restoration starts in heart of faith of the stander (you) before conviction starts in the heart of the covenant breaker. What's happening in your heart with God is more important than what's happening in your husband heart with the other woman, your faith can move mountains. Praying for you.

I’m am soo frustrated and trying to control my anger and give it to God. My ex husband is engaged to a single mum Christian who he met in his new church. He left me neither of us cheated. People in church are making him believe it’s ok and the Christian women is a single mum who knew he was still married when they started talking. He used to be against all of this strongly now it’s like he’s asleep and isn’t waking up from his sin. I till this day am still loyal to him. He was always the stronger Christian then me soo I still never understand how he is being this deceived
Be strong in the LORD, my Sister. I would gently remind you to not compare your faith. The fact that you recognize this is evidence of your spiritual maturity. Whatever is pure and good, dwell on those things (re: Philippians 4:8). GOD's preeminent plan for you includes for you to grow closer to Him. He will reveal to you specifically how if you seek and obey Him (re: Colossians 1:9-14). I'm doing this, and Christ himself has displace those negative feelings (anger, resentment, contempt, etc.) about my ex. My heart goes to you, but our Hope in Jesus overcomes all. youreconfused Thankyou, I really appreciate it. The thing i struggle with the most is we have a now 3 year old daughter. As he lives interstate he only sees her on average every 2 months for 3 days or so, meanwhile he is raising the 7 year old daughter of the other Christian woman. I have seen soo much deception lately in the church. I do find it hard sometimes with the pressure of being everything to our daughter, mum, dad, support emotionally, financially, physically. I’m curious on what you would advise if he did actually go ahead with the marriage? I have no desire sexually at all, God removed that but don’t want to be alone for ever. It’s hard I feel as if God has still allowed me to have love for my ex husband some Christians close to me prayed and fasted with and both received confirmation he would bring him back. After almost 3 years though and him being engaged you do lose faith on Gods promises in those sad days
youreconfused Thankyou again for your response. Sorry to hear that you have also gone through something similar. It’s sad the amount of sin in the world. I remember when I was pregnant somedays worrying about bringing my daughter into the world because of the hate, deception and selfishness that exists. I always made sure to not agree to the divorce and have till this stay stayed faithful to both my husband and God and have done anything with any other man, let alone even given my number out. When my husband left our daughter was only 5 weeks old, he believed and said God showed him to leave me. Since then he did try come back very early on maybe 2 months later and I was still angry and told him not to come back that we need to talk first...he still resents me for not just allowing him back then. Since then he has in and off tried to come back however while doing so has had the other woman in his life. He did also tell me a few times to move to the state he moved to but I prayed and feel not to. I don’t know whether it’s because that other woman is there or the risk he could leave me again however If I moved I would have no one at all where he now lives. He was always soo good and loving and strong...sometimes too much as in he corrected others for being divorced and said he knew how wrong it is and soo on. It’s almost as if God made his words true...I sometimes regret before a few weeks before he left he almost physically hurt me and I told him I was going to sell my wedding ring and I was going to live just me and our daughter...I also feel God made my own words come true. I know Satan is playing havoc with many marriages...funny thing is most of our problems even me saying that I was going to sell my wedding ring was after we were both baptised by the Holy Spirit. Looking back I can really see how far the enemy will try everything to make you fight, distance you and cause deception. It’s such a common thing now and I do have to remind myself that we are fighting a spiritual battle not a physical one. Sorry for the long post it’s just feels really nice to be able to find someone who understands. I also forgot to mention he is now put me to go through mediation as he is trying to take our daughter to go and live with him and this other woman.

This is my first marriage, and my husband 2cnd and his ex wife got a divorce because of their abamdoment and sexual immorality, now years later here i come along get married to my husband only to find out that he must go back and be reconcile to his first wife....ohhhhh how painful that is to my heart......

Be encouraged, if it be the Lord's will to grant you a husband after you repent and leave the adulterous marriage, that husband would have to be a true and genuine follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and either never before married, or a widower whose first covenant wife has passed on. The laws and the teaching of Christ Jesus on this subject is so plain and clear, if you read the KJV from the gender viewpoint as it is written.
The Word of God clearly states that if a MAN WHO DIVORCES HIS WIFE and marries another, he commits adultery...and a DIVORCED WOMAN (no matter who initiates the divorce) marries another, SHE commits adultery. The divorce and remarriage for adultery doctrine is based solely on the supposed guilt of the wife in Matthew 5:32, and Matthew 19:9. However, the wife in Matthew 5:31-32 is clearly not guilty of fornication because the Jews that Jesus was speaking to were still living under the law, and if fornication was discovered, there was a moral obligation to report the offender according to Deuteronomy 22:13-24. The wife, who would have been found guilty of fornication, was subsequently stoned to death, according to the law, which had still governed the Jews up until Christ's death on the cross. The same for a woman caught in adultery, according to Leviticus 20:10. How could a wife, guilty of fornication, or adultery, under the law of Moses, be given a writing of divorcement and be caused to commit adultery with whosoever marries her, that is divorced? Jesus is clear, in these examples, that the wife is not guilty of fornication, but is still caused to commit adultery if she marries another man now that she is divorced. This is the only way that Matthew 5:31-32, and Matthew 19:9 keep harmony with Romans 7:2-3, and 1 Corinthians 7:39.
Unlike the synoptic gospels of Mark and Luke, which were written to evangelize the Gentiles, Matthew was written to the Jews, and has of 24 characteristics that identify it as intended for the house of Israel.
The ancient Jews called the betrothed (engaged) "husband" and "wife" according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24, Matthew 1:18-25, and Luke 2:5-7.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage) was never for fornication or adultery. Allowing those guilty of fornication and adultery to remain living and become a prospect for remarriage was against the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22:13-24 and Leviticus 20:10, which commanded that those who were found guilty of fornication and adultery be put away from Israel, and stoned to death.
The law of Moses was not given to the world, only to the Jews. From the exodus, to Christ's death on the cross, the law of Moses governed the Jewish people. But when Jesus died on the cross, he caused the Jews to be dead to the law of Moses so they could be joined to Christ under a New Covenant. This is what Jesus's fulfillment of the law of Moses, including Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage), means. Paul gave several warnings to Christian believers against keeping the law of Moses over following Christ and his commands under the New Covenant with Christ. Keeping the whole law is no longer possible for those in Israel and that is why Christ prophesied that the temple would be destroyed. These scriptures make it clear that if you choose the law over Christ, that you must keep the whole law: Romans 7:4, Galatians 3:1-9, Galatians 3:10-29, Galatians 4:1-7, Galatians 4:21-31, and Galatians 5:1-15.
Being unequally yoked to unbelievers is not a cause for divorce, once two become one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, according to 1 Corinthians 7:12-14. Many one-flesh covenant marriages between unbelievers are recognized by God in the scriptures, most notably the marriage covenants between Herodias and King Herod's brother Philip, Potiphar and his wife, Ahab and Jezebel, and Ruth to her deceased husband Mahlon by Boaz when he took her to be his wife.
Some are teaching that 1 Corinthians 7:15 implies that those who are abandoned by the unbeliever, are "no longer bound" in a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The reason this is in conflict is due to the way they word it, which gives it an entirely different meaning, and context. 1 Corinthians 7:15, says, "15But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace." As you can see, the actual scripture says "not under bondage," which means that the husband or wife is not enslaved to sin with the unbelieving spouse, and is free to worship Christ in peace. Subsequent translations have changed the words to imply that they nullify the marriage covenant, when this is not at all the case. The issue that this creates is with 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, which says, "10And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife." As you can see, those who claim 1 Corinthians 7:15 has the Apostle Paul giving permission to remarry do not understand that the abandoned husband in 1 Corinthians 7:11 is expected to also remain unmarried, in order to be reconciled with his wife. The theory that 1 Corinthians 7:15 nullifies two as being one-flesh in marriage puts the Apostle Paul directly at odds with Christ, by implying that he has issued an opposing command.
Some also teach that 1 Corinthians 7:27-28 is referring to both divorced men and virgin women, and not exclusively to men and women (virgins) who have never been married. This has been falsely taught for some time in churches as referring to anyone who is not currently in a marriage, which, for them, also includes those who are divorced. This is a very false assumption, and puts these verses in a different context, that is at odds with both the teachings of Christ and the apostle Paul. We see Paul refer to virgins, which signifies the unmarried who have never before been wed, which is the proper context here. We see Paul saying clearly that it is good for virgins, which is also speaking to never before wed men here, "that it is good for a man so to be." He goes on to say, "Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife." Who is he referring to here? Men who, like himself, have never married. The word "bound", in these verses, is a clear reference to betrothal (engagement) and not to a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The ancient Jews were considered bound as husband and wife during the betrothal (espousal/engagement) before becoming one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, through consummation. This is affirmed by the context of the term "bound" seen in Numbers 30:14-16.
The Jewish couples in ancient Israel, who were betrothed (engaged) were also bound together until death, either by execution for fornication, or by other causes. Then Paul says, "But and if thou marry, thou has not sinned", which is who? The men who had never married in the congregation at Corinth. So he begins with verses 25-26 speaking exclusively to men that have never married. Paul then says, "and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned", which is speaking directly in regard to virgin women who have never been married, within the congregation, not divorced women. Notice that verse 34 says, "There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband." Paul speaks plainly when he says "there is a difference between a wife and a virgin." Paul goes on to say, "But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry." This is speaking of a virgin who has become of age to bear children when it says, "let them marry." This is a clear command, to a single man, who has taken a virgin to be his wife. Paul then says, "Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well." This is referring again to the single man who decides it is better not to marry, but to stay betrothed (engaged), under the present distress, by saying that he "hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin." Paul then says, "So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better", which again means single men, in the congregation, who have betrothed a wife, do well if they marry, and those who choose not to marry their virgin brides do better, under the current climate. For more proper context of the word "bound", let's look further down in this chapter to verse 39, which says, "39The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:39). For so long, these scriptures, between verses 25-38, have been twisted and used to enable divorce and remarriage, by wayward churches and teachers, and have caused many to stumble and to be trapped in unscriptural unions.
The use of the woman at the well, in regard to marriage, falsely implies that Christ was endorsing remarriage after a divorce. This teaching is in defiance of Matthew 22:23-28, which shows a woman who had been widowed seven times, and entered into each subsequent marriage without any scriptural conflicts with God's law of marriage (one-flesh covenant) seen in Genesis 2:23-24.
Mark 10:1-12 and Matthew 19:1-12 both record Christ's teaching that day beyond the Jordan. There is no mention of the words "fornication", "writing of divorcement", or "divorced" in Mark's Gospel, because Mark was not written to the Jews (as Matthew's Gospel was), but to evangelize the Romans and Greeks, who had no knowledge of the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22 or Deuteronomy 24. All of these facts draw a clear understanding that remarriage after a divorce, under the New Covenant with Christ, is a scripturally false and baseless teaching. Please use wisdom when living in any situation against what the scriptures command.
In the case with the woman at the well women been identified as Samaritan are allowed the freedom of widows to ask any man that is willing to give her a son. Referring to the woman that was caught in the very act, none could condemn her because that is allowed by Jesus. Remember, the woman said I have no husband thou she has been with five men."

How often do Christians lose there salvation? Does any Christian including this woman talking know that she won’t sin right before dying and end up in hell ? This is a false teaching. The context of every scripture is all of scripture. There is a lot more written on this topic in the Old Testament. Jesus was answering a question. People were divorcing and remarrying when they found someone more attractive, as always Jesus was pointing to where their heart was at. If this teaching is true then Esther is in hell right now. This is not consistent with the rest of scripture and the grace of God.

God’s word doesn’t change if you have experienced divorce or separation or if you have not experienced divorce or separation. Anyone who divorces a covenant spouse and marries someone else or anyone who marries a divorced person who has a living covenant spouse is committing adultery (Mark 10:11-12, Luke 16:18 and Romans 7:2-3). I see by this teaching that if I am married to my second wife, no matter how successful the marriage, regardless of our shared ministry I am in an adultness relationship. My question is do I divorce her. Is that divorce allowed? But my greatest concern is how do you suggest I explain this to our three kids in grade school? I know I must dissolve my family and can no longer be in this marriage. I'm not sure how to proceed-can you help? My children are very happy children who love the Lord and love our family life. The children are a product of sin-how should I approach custody?

Based on their logic, a person who has remarried is doomed either way-they can't stay married or commit the sin of another divorce. And if they have an intact family their children by default are illegitimate. I want to hear someone of that point of view provide an answer for what now would be the dilemma of perhaps millions. These scriptures in Genesis 38, along with what is written in the law about a betrothed virgin being unfaithful before her wedding night, in Deuteronomy 22:13-21; 23-24, you see what Jesus meant by "except it be for fornication" in Matthew 5:31-32 and Matthew 19:9, and the clear differences between fornication and adultery in the context of the scriptures.

But Jesus taught that if a divorce person marries another besides his or her wife, they commit adultery. Does that mean marriage has to have a sexual union in order to be marriage? If not, if people can be married without having sexual intercourse, then adultery has to mean something broader than sexual relations outside of your own marriage. Now, if marriage has to involve sexual relations, say, a consummation, then could a couple get out of marriage vows before consummation, because they're not actually married until they have sexual relations? The term Christ Jesus used was "fornication."
He was referring to the Jewish custom of the betrothal or engagement period.
He didn't use the term adultery because He was not speaking about marriage.

Many argue that the so-called "exception clause" for sexual immorality refers to adultery. The problem is, the punishment for adultery was DEATH, not divorce! Jesus came to fulfill the law (including Lev 20:10), and not to annul it. If the greek word for "sexual immorality" πορνείᾳ refers to adultery, than Jesus is contradicting the Levitical holiness code. As all the Word of God is from the Divine Logos, Jesus is made to contradict Himself. Eisegesis at its best.

The Erasmian view assumes that adultery is part of the "exception clause" in Matt 19. I am telling those who propound this view to reexamine the text with good exegetical principles - 1) Study the context. The Pharisees were the ones asking the question, not Christians in the New Covenant. Stoning or the death penalty was indeed the punishment for adultery under the Mosaic provision, not divorce! 2) Interpret and harmonize difficult passages (like Matt 19:9) with clear ones in Scripture, not vice versa.
The following are clear from Scripture:
It is God’s intention that marriage be an indissoluble union. “What therefore God has joined together let no man separate” (Mark 10:2-9 = Matt 19:3-8).
For a man to divorce a woman is not only for him to sin but to force her to commit the sin of adultery (Matt 5:32a).

Because you are still reading it like a cliff notes version. You are making it gender neutral. When really both Jesus and Paul (by command of the Lord in verses 10-12 of I Cor 7) give gender differences!
Jesus lists:
A man who divorces his wife is in adultery if he remarries
And equally-
A woman who divorces her husband is in adultery if she remarries
But then he only says;
The man that marries a divorced WOMAN is in adultery
There is NO equivalent: “the woman who marries a divorced man”
Because there have always been differences regarding many sins in the Bible. (Like women not being able to teach men.)
Likewise, in I Corinthians 7 when Paul speaks by command of the Lord, he states gender differences! -

Two very different commands
If I file for divorce from an adulterous husband (ongoing, unrepentant, sent me away) but I remain single, have I sinned? I am struggling with the fact that *I* filed and not him, since it seems that women were not allowed to file.
If a man is not to divorce then how would he get married again to a new woman? In order for him to be eligible to marry another woman he would have to be divorced or I suppose have a polygamous marriage. Then there is the fact that marriage God's way is between ONE man and ONE woman so how would this work?

Technically the Bible never condemns a man having more than one wife. It simply doesn’t exist as a sin. However God’s best is always one man and one woman. And that includes marrying as virgins. So we can’t just pick and choose what to enforce.

In divorce there is no such thing a Guilty Party its has to be a Guilty Wife.
Men and Women can divorce now for any reason, but its what happens after the divorce that can get you killed. If we marry another person after being divorced, and we were not divorced because the woman committed fornication before she married her husband then the woman committing whether it were her or the husband who did the divorcing, and the man would be committing adultery against his wife if he is the one doing the divorcing.

Sin is not allowed on the basis of sex. A woman is not dismissed from the same sin that a man is capable of.
Here is the thing. Jewish custom women were not permitted to initiate divorce only the man. In mark 10 jesus may have been getting at something else. I would strongly urge to study jewish hermeneutics and look at the greek. We need to stop reading the bible with western eyes and our own culture norms.

Mike's forcing her to turn her love away from him, leaving her with no choice other than to find another lover (which then is adultery)!
BUT, if Mike's wife already turned her heart away from Mike, of her own choice, toward another lover, THEN Mike is not guilty of forcing adultery upon his wife because she did that herself. SHE is now guilty of adultery. And if she marries another, both she and the new lover are guilty of adultery. Matthew 5:32, Part "b" ONLY applies if Mike divorced wife without her first committing adultery.

The divorce and remarriage for adultery doctrine is based solely on the supposed guilt of the wife in Matthew 5:32, and Matthew 19:9. However, the wife in Matthew 5:31-32 is clearly not guilty of fornication because the Jews that Jesus was speaking to were still living under the law, and if fornication was discovered, there was a moral obligation to report the offender according to Deuteronomy 22:13-24. The wife, who would have been found guilty of fornication, was subsequently stoned to death, according to the law, which had still governed the Jews up until Christ's death on the cross. Unlike the synoptic gospels of Mark and Luke, which were written to evangelize the Gentiles, Matthew was written to the Jews, and has of 24 characteristics that identify it as intended for the house of Israel.
The ancient Jews called the betrothed (engaged) "husband" and "wife" according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24, Matthew 1:18-25, and Luke 2:5-7.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage) was never for fornication or adultery. Allowing those guilty of fornication and adultery to remain living and become a prospect for remarriage was against the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22:13-24 and Leviticus 20:10, which commanded that those who were found guilty of fornication and adultery be put away from Israel, and stoned to death.
The law of Moses was not given to the world, only to the Jews. From the exodus, to Christ's death on the cross, the law of Moses governed the Jewish people. But when Jesus died on the cross, he caused the Jews to be dead to the law of Moses so they could be joined to Christ under a New Covenant. This is what Jesus's fulfillment of the law of Moses, including Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage), means. Paul gave several warnings to Christian believers against keeping the law of Moses over following Christ and his commands under the New Covenant with Christ. Keeping the whole law is no longer possible for those in Israel and that is why Christ prophesied that the temple would be destroyed. These scriptures make it clear that if you choose the law over Christ, that you must keep the whole law: Romans 7:4, Galatians 3:1-9, Galatians 3:10-29, Galatians 4:1-7, Galatians 4:21-31, and Galatians 5:1-15.
Being unequally yoked to unbelievers is not a cause for divorce, once two become one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, according to 1 Corinthians 7:12-14. Many one-flesh covenant marriages between unbelievers are recognized by God in the scriptures, most notably the marriage covenants between Herodias and King Herod's brother Philip, Potiphar and his wife, Ahab and Jezebel, and Ruth to her deceased husband Mahlon by Boaz when he took her to be his wife.
Some are teaching that 1 Corinthians 7:15 implies that those who are abandoned by the unbeliever, are "no longer bound" in a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The reason this is in conflict is due to the way some translations word it, which gives it an entirely different meaning, and context. 1 Corinthians 7:15, says, "But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace." As you can see, the actual scripture says "not enslaved" which means that the husband or wife is not enslaved to sin with the unbelieving spouse, and is free to worship Christ in peace. Subsequent translations have changed the words to imply that they nullify the marriage covenant, which is not at all the case. The issue that this creates is with 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, which says, "10To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife." As you can see, those who claim 1 Corinthians 7:15 shows the Apostle Paul giving permission to remarry do not understand the command, that Christ gives is to an abandoned husband, in 1 Corinthians 7:11, is that he "must not divorce" his wife, and his wife is commanded to "remain unmarried or else be reconciled" to her husband. The theory that 1 Corinthians 7:15 nullifies two as being one-flesh in marriage puts the Apostle Paul directly at odds with Christ, by implying that Paul has issued an opposing command.
Some also teach that 1 Corinthians 7:27-28 is referring to both divorced men and virgin women, and not exclusively to men and women (virgins) who have never been married. This has been falsely taught for some time in churches as referring to anyone who is not currently in a marriage, which, for them, also includes those who are divorced. This is a very false assumption, and puts these verses in a different context, that is at odds with both the teachings of Christ and the apostle Paul. We see Paul refer to virgins, which signifies the unmarried who have never before been wed, which is the proper context here. We see Paul saying clearly that it is good for virgins, which is also speaking to never before wed men here, "that it is good for a man so to be." He goes on to say, "Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife." Who is he referring to here? Men who, like himself, have never married. The word "bound", in these verses, is a clear reference to betrothal (engagement) and not to a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The ancient Jews were considered bound as husband and wife during the betrothal (espousal/engagement) before becoming one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, through consummation. This is affirmed by the context of the term "bound" seen in Numbers 30:14-16.
The Jewish couples in ancient Israel, who were betrothed (engaged) were also bound together until death, either by execution for fornication, or by other causes. Then Paul says, "But and if thou marry, thou has not sinned", which is who? The men who had never married in the congregation at Corinth. So he begins with verses 25-26 speaking exclusively to men that have never married. Paul then says, "and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned", which is speaking directly in regard to virgin women who have never been married, within the congregation, not divorced women. Notice that verse 34 says, "There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband." Paul speaks plainly when he says "there is a difference between a wife and a virgin." Paul goes on to say, "But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry." This is speaking of a virgin who has become of age to bear children when it says, "let them marry." This is a clear command, to a single man, who has taken a virgin to be his wife. Paul then says, "Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well." This is referring again to the single man who decides it is better not to marry, but to stay betrothed (engaged), under the present distress, by saying that he "hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin." Paul then says, "So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better", which again means single men, in the congregation, who have betrothed a wife, do well if they marry, and those who choose not to marry their virgin brides do better, under the current climate. For more proper context of the word "bound", let's look further down in this chapter to verse 39, which says, "39The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:39). For so long, these scriptures, between verses 25-38, have been twisted and used to enable divorce and remarriage, by wayward churches and teachers, and have caused many to stumble and to be trapped in unscriptural unions.
The use of the woman at the well, in regard to marriage, falsely implies that Christ was endorsing remarriage after a divorce. This teaching is in defiance of Matthew 22:23-28, which shows a woman who had been widowed seven times, and entered into each subsequent marriage without any scriptural conflicts with God's law of marriage (one-flesh covenant) seen in Genesis 2:23-24.
Mark 10:1-12 and Matthew 19:1-12 both record Christ's teaching that day beyond the Jordan. There is no mention of the words "fornication", "writing of divorcement", or "divorced" in Mark's Gospel, because Mark was not written to the Jews (as Matthew's Gospel was), but to evangelize the Romans and Greeks, who had no knowledge of the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22 or Deuteronomy 24. All of these facts draw a clear understanding that remarriage after a divorce, under the New Covenant with Christ, is a scripturally false and baseless teaching. Please use wisdom when living in any situation against what the scriptures command.

I have watched this three times, and I think it is excellent. The innocent spouse is almost always told by pastors they can get remarried. I know! They have told me this for the last eleven years when I am the innocent spouse. I could substitute the names. We must have compassion for the severe pain that is put on the deserted, innocent party because every day they are having adultery committed against them and God. Permanent celibacy isn't easy to have forced upon you by a spouse leaving, but the Holy Spirit will deliver you and bless you for obedience. Sometimes after much prayer for the wayward spouse, God saves that person and they come back to the marriage. It happens even 5, 15 even 21 years after divorce because nothing is impossible for God. I pray that innocent spouses will be comforted by the Comforter because it is like having your skin ripped off and more painful than someone dying especially when you have children.

1 Corinthians 7:10,11: “Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.”
There are many people who wrongly conclude from 1 Corinthians 7:10,11 that this text grants permission for marital couples to divorce for any reason provided they do not remarry while their former partner remains living.
Please re-read 1 Corinthians 7:10,11. Take note that these are the commands of the Lord. These are not strong suggestions. Any spouse who divorces his/her spouse is sinning against God. Why? Because you are separating what God designed and joined (Matthew 19:6). God designed marriage to help prevent aloneness (Genesis 2:18-25), and bring two persons (male and female) into a one-flesh union, enabling the procreation of mankind (Genesis 1:22, 28). By divorcing for unscriptural reasons, sexual temptation and/or the need for companionship may become strong, leading one or both spouses to become stumbling blocks of one another (study Matthew 5:31,32, “causes her to commit adultery”).

For so long, these scriptures, between verses 25-38, have been twisted and used to enable divorce and remarriage, by wayward churches and teachers, and have caused many to stumble and to be trapped in unscriptural unions.
The use of the woman at the well, in regard to marriage, falsely implies that Christ was endorsing remarriage after a divorce. God made man as the head on the Earth. I used to believe this same spiritual equality theory, because “society” has taught me to view the Bible from an egalitarian and eisegesis view. But when I learned to read the Bible from an EXEGESIS view (understanding the words in the Bible the way it is written), the mandates of God in marriage became so plain and clear....and I came out of society’s teaching matrix.
First of all, God does not see man and woman as being equal in all things...and especially when it comes to roles of spiritual authority in marriage. Marriage, all throughout the Holy Bible, scriptures are very detailed and GENDER specific. Marriage was made for the man. The wife’s main purposes are to be a HELPMEET for the man, to provide support, as he establishes the purpose of God here on the Earth, and to bare the husbands children....those are the woman’s primary and priority purposes in a marriage, which are to be an aide to her husband/bare children. There is no egalitarian spiritual equality in God’s gender roles for marriage...NONE. God made woman to be a helpmeet for the man, not man being a helpmeet for the woman. That primary purpose alone, coming from the voice of God, should tell you that men and women are NOT 100% equal in the eyes of God.
Now with that being said, the Holy Bible does allow a man whose wife left (divorced) him, to get another wife. But Christ Jesus stated, a divorced woman, under no circumstances, can ever get married, while the first husband is alive , without it being adultery. But for a man their is an exception for remarriage.
You are correct in pointing out the following factors:
1. If a man divorces (initiates divorce from) his wife, he can never remarry without it being adultery .
2. A woman who the husband (he initiates) divorce, can never remarry.
3. The woman (who initiates) divorce from her husband, she can never remarry
So as you can see. A man who divorces his wife and married another commits adultery. And the woman who divorces her husband and married another commits adultery. Either way, a divorced woman (under no circumstances) can ever get married while the first spouse is alive, without it being adultery.
But if a man is divorced by his wife (his wife initiate the divorce) decides to marry another, he is free to marry. There is no where in scripture that says otherwise. Because the woman was formed for the man and not the man formed for the woman. If you search the Scriptures using an exegesis point of view , you will see what I’m saying is very true. The Bible says that the woman is bound to the laws of her husband as long as her husband lives. It does not say that the man is bound to the laws of his wife as long as his wife shall live.

So to add some dimension to what you said and to support your analysis ( I believe your analysis is the correct interpretation of what God expects from "us" ), I look at the results at what God did on this issue: -------
(1) re: Moses. There were some attempts of reconciliation by Moses' father in law and by the time they parted, the 1 st wife took the 2 sons with her and she left Moses. Numbers 12 then detailed this issue--- Moses remarried when the 1st wife was still alive. If Moses committed adultery, why would God back Moses on this issue when there was a dispute.
(2) re Abraham. Genesis 17 --- at 99 years old, God told Abraham: -- " I will make you exceedingly fruitful " " I will make you the father of a multitude of nations". (Impossible to produce children without having sex ) . Why would God encourage/ tell Abraham to have a lot of sex ( remember recorded in v.17 Abraham laughed ) after this . Genesis 25 detailed what happened-- by this time , Abraham had 6 sons and we don't know how many daughters. When Sarah died when Abraham was 136 years old, Sarah was not living with Abraham anymore. You dont find in the Bible “and the husband can remarried when the wife left him”.....if is not in the Bible, we can not assume that is the result. For the contrary, God calls the man to love his wife the same way Christ loves his church. Christ never remarries another church even when we leave him over and over and over. Even when the “unfaithful” “unbeliever” (so many translations) wants to leave, we have to let them go, because God tell us to be at peace. But doesn’t say “now you are free to remarry” . Corinthians also reads “and a man can not divorce his wife”, so if can not divorce his wife, obviously he can not remarried. I think everything boils down to “what God joined together, no man can separate”. Now, there is another study about “did God join my marriage?”......but again, boils down to what we promised God with our vows “and i will love this man/woman until death do us part”.....so, if i do less than death, im breaking my pact to God. By the way, that whole chapter is gender specific (as I’ve said previously). Just like the rest of the scriptures in the Holy Bible concerning MDR. But read those two aforementioned verses. They specifically tell you if a man is loosed (divorced) by his wife, although it is suggested that a man does not get another wife (because of his freedom to serve the Lord without restrictions), he has not sinned if he marries another while his first wife is still alive. But nowhere in the Bible does it say the same thing for a divorced woman. It’s right there in the Bible, hidden in plain sight.

Victory Asher I read three different versions of the same 1 Corinthians 7 27:28 (also in Spanish, im latina 😄) and on all of those reads instead of loose : unmarried, single, free....in spanish : libre.....only in KJV and ASV you can read the word loose....so, if we put together all those words, doenst read “divorce”, reads “single”.......i’ve been studying this topic for so long because im “Mike” in the video (without mixing the genders, im a woman) and im trying to look for a loophole for me, but there is no any. Jesus himself said this, not an apostle, they say this is "LEGALISM" and keep belching out grace grace grace, it is perpetual sin as asking for forgiveness is fine, but your still married after you ask??? round and round we go. I know thousands of Church going so called Christians who are in this sin, millions in the church are in this sin, thats why God states get away from me you that work inequity..

If people are remarried they have to repent which means atmit it & quite it !!!
They may say , grace grace etc .. but God's grace does not give anyone a license to sin.
Imagine their conversation & excuses when they come face to face with Jesus...

They might try saying , " I didn't know or the pastor or others told me it was ok !!"
Then Jesus will clearly say BUT what did I tell you !

Wow. I will just chalk it up to babies in the lord. Was the marriage really a covenant? Under who? What about the old testament. Does the new testament have us be more strict under the law? I cannot even begin to say how this is so wrong.

@P11247 Please do explain. Just saying it's wrong doesn't make the teaching wrong at all. It just seems to upset you, probably because the truth offends people.
But the Bible is very clear about this topic and God writes His truth on His children's heart. Only His true children will follow His teachings, because they are more interested in obeying Him, no matter how hard it is, than in following their own fleshly desires.
Besides, as Victor says above, Jesus did raise the bar, and not just when it comes to marriage, but also in many other topics.

Where does he say that specifically. Paul wrote about it, but Jesus didn't discuss it. Jesus DID NOT RAISE THE BAR. He showed the way.

It is indeed unfortunate that so many professing and declared practicing Christian, distort the explanation to justify the union of divorce Christian with the approval and consent of their Pastors as if he was God's representative approving the adulterous union.
