Hey Serge, I know you must have no time, but you should keep doing these videos!! You are so professional and your teaching skills surpasses anyone here in youtube!! I learned a lot! Thanks
Hi Johnfyz, you are too kind but thank you so much for your comment, it brings me joy to see that it helps people. You are indeed right time is difficult to find but I am not stopping doing tutorials/videos hehe. Thank you.
Hi Pedro, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your comment. Yeah it can be very tricky but I see more and more cases where juniors get into good companies. It depends a lot on where you live whether the industry is developed in that area or not. If I talk for myself I used to live in Latvia (doing archviz) then moving to Perth (Australia) was doing archviz again, then wanted to switch coz I didn't like it anymore (it was always the matter of time I was looking forward to move to film) (there was nothing in Perth) had to move to Sydney to get into film/tv/print etc. This is where I live now and the market is so much better with more and more big studios opening their doors here. It is still challenging getting in some of these studios but with more experience and good folio doors just keep opening. Good luck Pedro.
@@SergeWorks Yes, I agree. I live in São Paulo, Brazil. We also have great studios for tv/print/ads etc. But for games is not very good. I'm looking for a job in this area so probably I am going to work remotely for companies in US or Europe. Maybe move in the future. Thanks for the answer :)
@@BlenderUstad ohh man you are way too kind but I'll take it thank you so much :). You didn't answer though. Did you have any ideas for what you would like to see in the future, anything specific ?
Awesome video! Thank you for the tips..I've recently started modelling and noticed I'm getting quite good at it. I was wondering how to I would start approaching people for work. This helps a ton and I will definitely revisit this in the future!
Great video! I was wondering if you could talk more about building a portfolio and/or demo reel. Also, is it important to have both to apply for jobs? I have a few decent portfolio pieces but trying to get nicely rendered turntables has proved to be problematic (Maya student version doesn't allow batch rendering/not being able to use my computer for days, if not weeks, while it's rendering, etc).
Hi Nicole, Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the idea. Before I potentially get to the video I will tell you that no you don't need both. Whether you need just portfolio or just reel there is a bit more to it which I can talk about in the video (if there is more interest in the topic) but it depends on the industry you are applying to. Generally speaking reel is better though it would fit broader number of companies but in the meantime a simple artstation channel with your best work as stills is fine as well. Don't put your first ever work there unless you first ever is amazing haha and not just to you. Hope this gives you an idea.
Hey it seems you stopped uploading tutorials. I really like your tutorial style, don't give up because perhaps the views aren't as high as you expect. I hope you upload more tutorials though
Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge. I am looking at studying a university degree (game design and animation) versus a private course at CG Spectrum. Would you have any advice on which is a better option? Thanks!
Thank you Monica for your kind words. This one is a little bit tricky and a lot depends on you :). So I will start by saying I don't know much about the uni degree that you are looking into or CG spectrum and the difference in length and prices of both of these. There are a bunch of options you can choose, but I would say if you are a very disciplined and hardworking person then I would suggest private mentorship/youtube/payed courses on various topics versus any uni degrees. If you feel like having proper structure and a helping hand here and there then either Uni or private course at Spectrum. Without knowing anything about the 2 it sounds like uni will require a few years (more money, a piece of diploma that noone cares for) where is the course at Spectrum more specialised and shorter, hopefully cheaper as well. So I don't want to give you necessary an advice because like I said it depends on your character but I just wanted to lay it out how I would look at it. Me personally I would always look at the course that has very specialised subjects taught by people from the industry. University sometimes (not always) might have teachers who have never been in the industry and I don't need to tell you what that means for you :). So hopefully this has been somewhat of help :). All the best and invest your money wisely.
Ahoy@@tahataramfilm8322 , do you mean in terms of getting the job in Pakistan or potentially moving ? Getting a job in any country is exactly the same (create portfolio, be better than your neighbour, know someone from the industry), I mean I started my career back in Latvia (place where I was born), same thing had to do the test, knew someone from that company had to show I was capable etc. And got my first job this way. When moved to Australia, that portfolio from Latvia helped me landing my first job in Australia. If you are talking specifically move as a specialist to a different country, then of course it is possible as well and many people do it but it should be benefitial for the company to sponsor you either you are really good (they can't find anyone else) or you are good and not as expensive (their offer was lower than potentially you are worth) as your competition in that same country :) making it a win win situation for both company and yourself. This is a rough run down but not exactly sure what you were referring to, let me know. This is a topic in itself haha.
Owltoons, thanks for your comment. Is there any reason you can't apply same things in Blender ? What would you be interested to see in Blender ? Provided there was more interest I could do some tuts for Blenser one day :), there are quite a few Blender tuts out there but not as many as for Zbrush.

very thanks bro what do you think about freelancing? i never see any video about freelancing as 3d character artist is it good idea? can someone expect to earn 1000$ per month with that? xD
Ahoy sorry for a late respond and glad you like the video. So to answer short yes it is possible to work remotly as a character artist and earn this money and much more. I am freelancer/contractor but I work onsite not remotly, so jumping around different studios locally (mostly 3d generalist work - modeling/sculpting, texturing/shading, lighting/rendering. With character remote work it would be really hard for a company (big names companies) to give you work remotly because of the strict regulations (some companies don't even have internet working, during certain projects) so they wouldn't easily send you the project file or sketches etc. Then that leaves doing character work for smaller studios. The character work is sort of rare in itself and mostly done in big studios on movies and games so hence getting it is harder especially remotly. But I know a few people who do it succesfully. Generally with remote work it is always a risk for a company because they don't know the artist how quick he/she is so they would be going by the word of month if possible unless one has an awesome folio and a nice track of projects he/she has worked on. So yes possible but not straightforward :). Hope this helps.
