- Inspire School of Arts & Sciences’ Performing Arts is proud to welcome Guest Director, Lara Tenckhoff, and in collaboration with Inspire students and staff to present These Shining Lives, an incredible theatrical drama. The production will be staged April 8-10 at the Center for the Arts.
These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day, exploring their true story and its continued resonance. Catherine and her friends are dying, it’s true; but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits-or endanger the lives of those who come after them.
These Shining Lives is based on the real-life circumstances of four women who in the 1920s worked for the Radium Dial Company, a watch factory based in Ottawa, Illinois. The women painted watch faces with glowing radium-rich paint. While the characters are fictitious, the story of the Radium Girls and the toxic and deadly levels of radium poisoning of over 4,000 factory workers is true. The real-life Radium Girls took their company to court and achieved a long-lasting victory over corporations with poor workplace conditions and worker’s compensation that is still in effect today. Inspire welcomes the community to embark on this journey through time, reflecting on the past and hoping for a better future.
There will be four performances this April 8th-10th, 2022 at the Center for the Arts.
