Thank you for this video! I've been invited to go to a Gnostic Mass this Saturday in Philadelphia. As a long time solitary practitioner I'm excited to see what a Thelemic group ritual is like. I'm into the Golden Dawn current and I haven't really explored Thelema all that much.
The gnostic mass seems very interesting. I remember the time that I went to a mass of a local temple called: The temple of ancient wisdom (they study Kabbala but also study other magickal disciplines) and the energy, camaraderie and ritual was very interesting. Too bad that I only went one time (family pressure) but would have love to visit and participate more 🤷🏻♂️.
Have considered myself a Thelemite for years, however I'll be attending my first mass next week with my now local lodge! After so long I'm looking forward to working and sharing with others! Great video and thank you. :)
I didn't knew gnostic were out of the graves! I thought all them eliminated by the 4th century as heretics. So you got a book of laws. I like the gospel of Mary Magdeleine in which is said to don't add any laws to the gospel. I also like Pistis Sophia were the light of the world say to forgive limitless times to the sinners that repents sincerly and to go forth as to teach them the mysteries of the 1ft, 2nd & 3rd mystery. As a religious rogue I consider myself totally forgiven and ignore the laws, usually I stay within the common sens and do talk with the desperates, the criminals, and the beggards but I avoid, using facial recognition, the aggressives. I also often pray out load in public and that to different goddesses or since a little while to the son of man, the rabbouni that did possessed me recently. Since, I only pray the rabbouni and I try to retrieve the most information possible about him. My favorite gospel is Luke but the gospel of Juda talks of me and my era so I appreciate very much too. I wouldn't eat your burnt blood ashes cake, I'm vegan and was raised under cocher alimentation restriction that I still obey even though that I stopped thinking myself superior to porc eaters. I'll see if I can get a glimpse at your book of the laws. Gnosis is to me an habit, I don't really need to practice community rituals my personal ones suffice. It would have been interesting to meet some gnostic believers but only if I can stay free of being myself and respond to what I hear, also. OTO, I"ll check it out! Thank you for the lively video, I find your attitude very inspiring. All the gnostic books are easily available, careful to don't get yourself isolated into one little click that are the only ones to have the truth, if you know what I mean?! You are forgiven! May that you get bright as the sun in mid-day! In the far, far distances and that you'll reign over your kingdom. In full illuminescence. Truly!
Gnosticism today is a General Category. In the case of OTO (pre-Crowley) it was "revived" with a mass by Papus (Gerard Encausse) and then it inspired Crowley. OTO Gnosticism after Crowley is in line with Phibionite alleged practices and creed. It also meets the general criteria of Voegelin.
@@MaeviusLynn Hey thanks for your response! It was the coolest thing to see, I had a great time and met some really interesting people. The ceremony was really beautiful and I'm definitely feeling uplifted today. I kept some of the flowers too! I wasn't expecting to meet people from such a wide variety of magical backgrounds, but as someone with no knowledge of this stuff myself, it was a great experience to be pointed in some good directions.
Thank you so much. I am glad to hear you liked the video. Sharing parts of my journey, which includes the OTO, has been a lot of fun for me and it always means so much to hear people enjoyed it or it helped them in some way.
@@MaeviusLynn definitely a great resource. I've been with OTO for just over a year and she is a former Oasis Master. We both thought it was a great intro to Mass and I actually wished I had found it before my first mass.
@@jjwhite336 I'm glad to hear both of you enjoyed it. I've been making videos, giving lectures, and writing articles in magazines about Thelema for about three years now. I'm am still a rather new and fresh voice.
Wow, very interesting. I’m just exploring Thelema so everything is new. I love the advice, ‘don’t touch the priestess’, seems like good advice for many situations. Thank you again for your well done video.
Wonderful. I'm so glad my video could give you a little window into what you can get out of Thelema. I think the Gnostic Mass is especially great because people can come to it without being a member. It's a no commitments ritual. Best of luck to you on your journey!
Thanks for the informative video. I recently started looking into Thelema and the occult, and was surprised to find out there's an OTO in my city here at the edge of the bible belt. I'm excited to go and check it out. This definitely answered some of my questions.
Can guests bring their own cakes of light, or would that be unusual/unwelcome? I don’t consume animal products - the blood part I’m fine with if human (since given consensually) - I just can’t imagine them replacing the honey or wine with a plant-based source, as that seems like maybe a lot of effort (for them)?
Yes. Some people do bring their own cakes of light for different reasons. I left that out of the video, but it's totally valid and a thing people do. I would just talk to your local body performing the mass to see what they use and if that doesn't work for you, then how you can go about bringing your own cakes of light.
Very nice Gnostic Mass 101 video, I've seen an online version of the Mass many times. However, there is no local OTO body in my area. It was really nice to imagine and learn how it would be attending in person. Thank you so much for sharing. ✌️ 🕊️ ✌️
Algorithm invite...learn something new every day. Many questions enough to become an annoyance. So I shall restrain myself. Saw one mass in full (of the ones you provided...Frank Zappa 'like OMG!' 🤯 many things make sense now) Thank you for sharing.
Been researching Thelema and gnosticism for not so long now but I have prior knowledge in the Occult, Paganism and Wicca and was wondering when would you recommend going to the Mass... after how much research and interest would attending a Mass would be recommended?
That's a great question. If you have an interest in attending a Gnostic Mass, then I think you should check it out. No prior knowledge is needed in order to attend or get something out of the ritual. Of course having more knowledge will help you, but it's not a requirement.
Thank you for this ritual. I am interested in the Gnostic mass and may contact the local OTO, but I feel like I need to learn a little more first. I'm visually impaired, so I am curious to know if they would be willing ot print me a large print missal?
Your local body should be able to make accommodations. Be sure to get in touch with the local body officers ahead of time and let them know. oto-usa.org/locations/

Thank you for watching! I'm happy it was helpful. If you decide to make the drive, then I hope you have an amazing experience. It's such a special ritual.
Alas Lynn, I’m caring for my aging Dad right now and can’t take the time to travel to my local OTO body, William Blake Lodge. It’s at least a three hour drive and I have to navigate the D.C. beltway. 93!😊

When they give you the cake, do you have to eat it right then and there? I know this might sound ridiculous, but I have a big fear of being poisoned/drugged. How do I communicate this to them?
Eating the cake of light and drinking the wine is part of communication. If you have concerns, then I suggest reaching out to your local OTO body directly and ask them questions.

No prior knowledge is needed to attend. Of course studying will help you understand a lot of the symbolism of the ritual and get more out of it, but it's not required. I hope you have a wonderful experience and enjoy it!
