I’ve always been curious about engineering, physics, chemistry, nutrition, video editing, philosophy etc. and seeing this just gave me a pretty good sense of how to organize myself to be the best I can be. Not only for my personal success, but for others. I love the concept that our consumption of knowledge should be demonstrated publicly, not only to improve our ability to connect ideas, but to also gift our audience with priceless knowledge.
Thank you for sharing this video. I have for long have grand plans in my mind, but my problem tends to be procrastination, which I am working on. Greetings from Norway.
Now, I understand why I'm a lifetime learner at 69. Almost everyday for twenty years I memorized students names as part of my lesson plan as I walked into the classroom. It was very cool for the kids to see.
I have never heard of this term. If someone had asked me what it is, I might have said it is a person who knows many levels of math. I suspect that could be a functional definition of a person who know math at many levels. How much of this is inherited trait? I think of my dad, who was building an airboat of his own design. I was in the 1st grade and he had a problem that he spent hours trying to solve. I looked at the problem for about 2 minutes and gave him the solution. He was stunned. So inherited? Are philosophers more likely to be polymaths? Critical thinking is at the core. Too bad we have so little of it now. I just have questions now and I love this video.
I don’t know if there ate answers to these questions, but my dad is also a genius builder. I have inherited none of those manual skills, but talking with him has provided great exercise in critical thinking.
I want to do everything and nothing. I want to do what I want went I want when I’m interested in it. When I lose interest I want to move on to the next until I’m interested again. Why am I like this?
I couldn't say without speaking with you about it to get more details. Often, people haven't spent enough time on crafting a vision so they can push through the obstacle of losing interest. Here's a training many people have told me they found useful: ua-cam.com/video/MFz31HpVkj0/v-deo.html Some of the responses I've received from this video are in my book The Victorious Mind, which you might also find useful.
All my nephews are this way. I think it is a mild form of ADHD, attention deficit due to the practice of our devices. The longer your attention is exposed to these devices the shorter your attention span becomes. As the years go by reality will become distorted. So limit your time from devices and engage in real manifestations.
I have been wanting to become a polymath, but whenever i try to learn something for example it is mental math, months im good at it when i trying it to learned again i seemed become worse at that?
One of the balances to strike is not leaving learned topics so long that they start to fade. Interleaving can help with this: ua-cam.com/video/3U34nJGuFvQ/v-deo.html
One problem I've been facing is what exactly to study. I worry that maybe the subject I want to study is too broad, or maybe it's too obscure to be useful. Do you have any ways of picking your disciplines?
I fucking love ur channel and ur book " victorious mind" , ive listened to it multiple times and have finally developed my first memory palace. I have two questions, first why dont you go live anymore ? I love ur prior eps and have also listened to some them multiple times especially the ones concerning meditation and depression...fellow suicidal thoughts guy here. Second is there any possibilty of u reaching out to Sam Harris to be on his podcast? Ive been using the waking up app for two years and it has truly helped with my "unvictorious mind"at the moment. I think it would be a phenomenal meeting of the mind . I will also advise who ever works at the app to get u on, im pretty sure im not alone in this desire...keep up the wonderful work that ur doing, some of ur lives have helped me in some dark times..your book also has giving me hope, and once again thank you👍👍
Glad that I've been able to help in some way! There are lots of reasons I stopped live streaming, but most videos now launch as premieres and I hang out in the chat. It's generally more effective, though I do live stream once a month still in the "MMM Mastermind" group which is sometimes called "The Inner Circle." Thanks for the kind words regarding getting on this podcast. I currently make no effort to suggest myself to be on any shows, but perhaps if enough other people do, something like that might happen. In the meantime, I've actually scripted a new guided, memory-based meditation that I'll probably release soon. It will work just fine on any app that streams audio. Please stand by and warm wishes for an amazing year ahead!
When you switch to another topic on audiobook to give yourself a mental break from what you're mainly studying the day, can that book be something fictional? Or vice versa?
I certainly switch to fiction as part of my own interleaving. However, it's rare that I read fiction without some kind of purpose. If I want to be entertained, I go for a walk, play a card game (with physical cards) or practice card magic, play the guitar, etc.
Does a memory palace have to be inside? Or could it be a biome? Like a wetland with a wooden walkway with a number of short offshoots, each one is different. And you can drive a mind car to your beach, or a mountain, desert, etc?
All of these options are possible. I usually don't use them because they are relatively indistinct in my mind compared to walls and corners. Ultimately, it comes down to your goal. I only use outdoor locations when I'm certain that they won't be fiddly. There's an example of the one outdoor Memory Palace I used for my TEDx here: ua-cam.com/video/gBvKFI7AlLE/v-deo.html Does this additional resource make sense and my answer help you out?

Hey Anthony I am curious on how I can apply memory palaces to my life? I am really focusing on learning how to learn this year. However Is a memory palace usable in all areas? Ie i want to learn spanish, piano, and how to read faster, how can a memory palace make this better and increase my knowledge?
There are many applications. I’m a musician myself and have a few videos about music in the FAQ section of the MMM Masterclass. It’s not the core focus of the program, though. Music is inherently mnemonic, so learning how to transform most instruments into Memory Palaces doesn’t take long. Language learning is a strong use case for words and phrases in any language. Then there are speeches and other verbatim texts, facts, numbers, anatomy and even fun applications like chess and card games. I have a separate program for reading faster. Memory Palaces will help with one aspect of reading faster in particular, but there’s more to it than that. One kinds of material do you want to read faster?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM mainly being able to read for retention mainly non-ficition, psychology, philosophy, so being able to implement/ and use/ test over what I read at a higher level.
Great areas to be in. Frankly, I'm not sure reading faster is always the ticket with topics like these. With philosophy in particular, I think Nietzsche got it right when he said that reading more slowly was the key. I think the problem people tend to have with philosophy is not setting up the foundations first and/or not having enough international foundations. Work on that, and much else will snap into place faster through pattern recognition with the help of Memory Palaces for quickly absorbing key terms and figures.

If you are a familiar with the forum of LessWrong would you recommend it to learn critical thinking? I’m asking because a friend recently asked me to give it a try since it enforces rationalism and I’m looking to get into it
I’ve read some articles on LessWrong, but not the forum so cannot say. It would be fascinating if reading a forum could teach critical thinking without any external reading needed, that’s for sure. If you search ‘critical thinking books’ on my blog, there are several recommendations. And reading as much as possible and taking care to think reflectively is highly recommended, always with caveat emptor in mind as we carpe diem. I’d also suggest getting in plenty of writing about a variety of issues into action, as well as many verbal discussions as possible. Does this way of looking at things make sense and help you out?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Well, it specifically refers to a series of essays called Sequences, which conveys the essence of rationalism or so I’ve been told. I was planning on doing external reading regardless of the content but I don’t know if the rationalist approach, even though it goes hand and hand with critical thinking, would lead to a different path than a more traditional approach of raw critical thinking. And yeah I’ll definitely check the blog out when I get free time.
Hello Anthony Metiever!I am a history student and I need your help!I learnt the method of loci and mnemonics and now I heard from others about photoreadind method!Do you think that this method can help me in learning historical textbooks/books?They tell us that we can read a book in 10 minutes by using this „photoreading"technique?I need your opinion about this situation!Thank you very much!
I've never heard or seen anyone demonstrate photo reading. Nelson Dellis and I just recorded something about how he's exposed people for trying to demonstrate this. The weird thing to me is why people would use such a tired old metaphor. Why not shoot for the James Webb telescope reading technique? I'll tell you one possible reason why: Perhaps people using these techniques don't actually read enough to have an imagination enough to come up with more contemporary metaphors... and that's assuming they actually read at all. Your thoughts?
I suggest not asking for it to be easier, but doing what it takes to get better with memory techniques. Here's a tutorial to get you started on dealing with historical information in books: ua-cam.com/video/eIQRiqQFKQY/v-deo.html
@AnthonyMetivierMMM also when I'm visualize with my goal someone interrupt it, like I was driving a car and go to my mansion and then my thought or intrusive thought came in that I got hit by truck If you dont know how to answer its okay
here i am again. recently i have been going back to zero. i used to be good at speaking publicly but now i have having a hard TIME SPEAKING IN PUBLIC that seems like im stuttering worse than other peers (i used to be good at sepaking ever since i was in elem) idk it started to get better at writing. INSHORT I CANT BE BOTH AAAAHGH
I would challenge that. Sometimes we go through hard times. Keep going, break the skills down, set goals the smaller steps you need to master and if you fall down again... reassess and keep going. More challenges are coming, so the sooner you start practicing getting back at it, the better. Does this way of looking at things make sense and help you out?
Because polymathy is involved, it's multi-layered, but ultimately very simple, you will display: Diverse knowledge and skills: You have expertise or significant proficiency in multiple, often unrelated fields. Intellectual curiosity: You have a strong desire to learn about various subjects and continuously expand your knowledge. Ability to connect ideas: You can draw insights by linking concepts from different disciplines. Adaptability: You can quickly grasp new concepts and apply your knowledge to solve problems in various domains. Creative thinking: You often generate innovative ideas by combining knowledge from different areas. Ongoing learning: You actively pursue knowledge in multiple fields throughout your life. Practical application: You can apply your diverse knowledge to real-world situations or create tangible outputs. Recognition: Others may acknowledge your expertise in multiple areas. I hope all of this can give motivation and ideas for others.

Thank you! I appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge with us.💕
So nice of you to say so!
Are you currently weaving together any polymathic learning projects?
Not yet, but I'm very interested!
Very valuable advice, thank you! Also, I feel your mic has improved compared to last time I listened to you back in summer.
Thanks for checking this one out.
Yes, even though it doesn't look that great, this mic works a lot better than the previous one. I also have finally been able to rebuild my library, and that has reduced the echo substantially.
Found your very cool channel😊... I cultivate a mindset that the "shoshin"-mindset of japanese Zen. It means an attitude of a beginner, open, curious. For me, every day is day 1, week 1.
Fantastic - thanks for mentioning and for giving us unfamiliar with this something new to learn. 🙏
Hello Anthony!! I’m 17 about to turn 18 and seeing this video gave me such inspiration to seek knowledge.
Glad you found this and share these passions. The world needs more perceptive and ambitious people like you.
Power to your journey and talk soon!
another work of art in words and ideas
🙏
Thank you for sharing this video. I have for long have grand plans in my mind, but my problem tends to be procrastination, which I am working on. Greetings from Norway.
Procrastination can be beat. Power to you!
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM, and by Durin’s name I will beat it thusly!
This is your best I've come across
Thanks.
What makes it so?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM new information I haven't thought of
Now, I understand why I'm a lifetime learner at 69. Almost everyday for twenty years I memorized students names as part of my lesson plan as I walked into the classroom. It was very cool for the kids to see.
Brilliant!
Yes, it always blew my students away back when I was teaching that I knew all their names.
Hey! Surprisingly I wrote a book about that and a chapter is called exactly that.
Cool!
Thanks again I appreciate everything that you do
You are so welcome - thanks as always for being part of the mission! 🙏
Thanks it is a great discussion.
Thanks for checking it out!
I am really waiting for this.
🙏
Very insightful. Thank you.
Thanks for checking this one out. Are you currently learning multiple topics?
Great video. 🙂
Of course I would like very much to know about this Multiple Mentality Course by Harry Khane!
Fantastic!
If you search his name and Magnetic Memory Method, the material I produced about him and his techniques will show up. :-)
Here's a training many people have told me they found useful:
ua-cam.com/video/MFz31HpVkj0/v-deo.html
Some of the responses I've received from this video are in my book The Victorious Mind, which you might also find useful.
Interleaving can help with this:
ua-cam.com/video/3U34nJGuFvQ/v-deo.html
One problem I've been facing is what exactly to study. I worry that maybe the subject I want to study is too broad, or maybe it's too obscure to be useful. Do you have any ways of picking your disciplines?
You might find the vision statement training I gave here useful for determining what to study:

It's generally more effective, though I do live stream once a month still in the "MMM Mastermind" group which is sometimes called "The Inner Circle."
Thanks for the kind words regarding getting on this podcast.
There's an example of the one outdoor Memory Palace I used for my TEDx here:

Does this additional resource make sense and my answer help you out?
I know someone who has learned many languages and engineered military equipment. He has mastered political philosophy and has a blog. He is a prominent member of a local party, and is a logical theorist in response to Darwinian materialism and has many articles and lectures. He is self-taught and said he wanted to study linguistics
Sounds like a wonderful contact to have. Do you have any similar learning plans yourself? Linguistics is indeed fascinating.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I will try I will try. I am interested in anarchist political philosophy and write in this field. I love physics and mathematics. I write short daily articles in a literary and magazine style. I love reading books in various fields. Knowing that I did not complete my studies due to financial circumstances, allow me to say that you are one of the few who are still aware of the importance of being a multicultural person and I have no doubt that you are one of the great people who guide us to more knowledge.
can we talk in private ? You sound like an amazing person, it would not be wrong for me to say that you are the one type of person I really want to discuss with. By the way, I don’t force you or anything, be free to refuse if you don’t want to. But I just think it could be interesting to talk, I have many similarities with you.
Are the books in your list appropriate for kids? We homeschool, I'm thinking of adding a how to learn/think unit semester for my preteen/teens. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks for your question.
I would suggest that the only person who can decide is the parent who has taken the time to read recommended books, at least use the reading technique I suggest here:
ua-cam.com/video/fMcVofEtn2U/v-deo.html
At least, that's what I would strive to do were I a parent concerned about the appropriateness of book recommendations for my kids.
Does this way of looking at things make sense and help you out?
Becoming a Polymath sounds like a giant challenge for me
Power to you!
So basically pick the one you like the most and master it?
Actually, no. The Like/Dislike monster cannot win if you want to be a true polymath.

Dear sir, how could i simply use moon as memory palace. I am weak in english, i watched your video but cannot understand because of my weak english.is there any back channel you could teach me?

I'll tell you one possible reason why:
Perhaps people using these techniques don't actually read enough to have an imagination enough to come up with more contemporary metaphors... and that's assuming they actually read at all.
Your thoughts?
Thank you, Anthony Metiever! The last question is how can I learn history book in detail fast? How to approach history using mnemonics?
I suggest not asking for it to be easier, but doing what it takes to get better with memory techniques.
Here's a tutorial to get you started on dealing with historical information in books:

Question can i combine image streaming with mind palace
And is it unlimited to have more mind palace like 100
Technically, using a Mind Palace is image streaming.
I don’t understand your second question. Please rephrase.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM what I saying is, can I have 1000 mind palace
Thank you In advance
I wouldn't do that myself, but there are no Memory Palace Police I'm aware of that would try to stop you.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM also when I'm visualize with my goal someone interrupt it, like I was driving a car and go to my mansion and then my thought or intrusive thought came in that I got hit by truck
If you dont know how to answer its okay
INterleaving is key!
Yes, one of my fave of all accelerated learning tools. Why burn out when you can revive interest in a snap?
here i am again. recently i have been going back to zero. i used to be good at speaking publicly but now i have having a hard TIME SPEAKING IN PUBLIC that seems like im stuttering worse than other peers (i used to be good at sepaking ever since i was in elem) idk it started to get better at writing.
One big question How can we tell if we’ve become a polymath?
Because polymathy is involved, it's multi-layered, but ultimately very simple, you will display:
Diverse knowledge and skills: You have expertise or significant proficiency in multiple, often unrelated fields.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Any plans for polymathy in the year to come?
You gave the secret. Are you polymath? Just asking. By the way, Thanks..
