- You’ve seen the big, bulky, modern-day bats. But once upon a time, a bat existed in which wood was scooped out to widen the sweet spot. Want to know how? Let’s find out.

No spine implies less wood along the central axis which results in reduced power even if middled!!! 🏏🏏🏏
If you are playing tests, scoop bats are better for singles and doubles.
But if you want to strike big, you need heavier bats.
Brian Lara's highest test score was 400* against England. 375 was before that.
As mass is concentrated out of axis of bat the moment of inertia is more so that bat takes up more energy while rotating. So when batsman doesn't middle the ball the amount of energy transferred from ball to bat is more and you will lose in power transfer. Lofting and clearing boundaries will not be easy. But it provides better control to guide the ball as face doesn't rotate much.
If batsman if keep on practicing with scoop bat their muscle memory will adapt it and middling will go away. They will be inclined towards ground shots. Now because of Shorter formats hitting sixes is a required skill.
But with former bat If you miss-hit you will lose control but power transfer will dependent on cosine component of impulse of bat to the direction of incoming ball. Shot might doesn't go in intended direction but it will go out of park if even ball hits close to axis of bat. And middling will be improved in practice. Only shots hitted from far away from axis will be problematic.
Scoops requires more power than that of the spine( due to its more mass distribution, transfer of change in momentum is less )
“The bigger, the better” 😂😂😂😂
Love your voice IAN BISHOP !
To give bowlers and batters equal advantage???
Cause in the modern era of cricket the attacking strokemaking kind of play is in fashion and players wants to play big shots and score faster rather than getting singles or doubles by pushing and nudging the ball
Middling in the bat makes you a perfect player
Players stopped using scooped bats because in modern bat making you can achieve both the big edges and a big spine. Bat manufacturers dry the clefts to make big but light bats.
0:24 higest test score is 401 by brain lara
*Highest
Timing and practice is everything
The main reason batters stopped using scoop bats in cricket is due to changes in regulations and standards set by cricket governing bodies. These regulations are designed to maintain a fair balance between bat and ball, and ensure that equipment used in the sport adheres to certain specifications. As a result, unconventional designs like the scoop bat have been phased out in favor of more standardized bat shapes that comply with these rules.
Obviously scooped bats are generats less power against the regular bats... It's true that odds of miss hits getting lawer, but at the same time it reduce the power that bat can put on the ball, which is not recommended for the modern Cricket. I think that's the most concerned part of batters on give up to use scooped bats... 🤔😌
its SIMPLE....To make a bat 2 pound 9 ounces
back then with thick edges ( therefore more sweet spot) they had to reduce weight by scoop. Today drying techniques have improved and no scoop required and so thicker edges and deep spines do the same job and less time and money spent scooping out the millions of bats produced every year.
Perhaps alongside mass distribution and lesser overall power when hit on sweet spots, perhaps the the shape maybe more or less aerodynamic and vulnerable to wind resistance, thus causing a uneasiness amongst bats such as these???
I don't know why batsman stop use scoop designed bat
Love this series and video but I request that please make a video on mongoose bat please byju's please
The bigger the better: that's what she said
Scoop bat better for single and double but not for hit big shot because you generate lots of power by scoop bat to hit big shot .
Forcing to goto centre of mass on edges, you took it out of the center. Batsmen mostly are used to play straight and practice to meet the ball out of the center of the bat.
Batters are bigger, they used brute force to compensate for torsion forces. So if they could do that, they don't need a scoop, instead increasing bat mass and shot power.
I prefer this types of bat.
Plz make a video on how bowler generate speed
May be regular bat often help to play like shot to third man, fine leg, square of the wicket i.e behind the wicket
. "No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world."
Because there are now concave bats and that does about the same but with the big spine and edges
Because when they hit it from middle their enough power is not generated compared to spine one
Thank you for the tips
Wow
are you talking about mongoose bat?
when a batter mistimes a ball, whatever the mass distribution of the bat is, the bat cannot resist the torque provided, thus a very little to no effect of such design..
About mangoose bat???
Is scoop bat legal
Why cricketers don't use scoop bats anymore ?
Because it's illegal in cricket
Has Ian Bishop given video's commentary?
To increase the power of a shot
Because it gives advantage over other bats,
Nice 👌
In tennis cricket scoop bat is best
400 where gone???
Please anyone tell me the profile of cricket bats used by players in 90s era…. Its a humble request
lara's highest score was 400*
They uses. That bat still i practice matches. Good bat but. Difficult to control it make it. Less effective in defence .. ....
Hi
Scoop bat more edges
rohit played the same shot in final
lara highest score is 401 not 375
