  • The most common class of jumpship seen during a large scale operation from the great houses and the rare times larger periphery states go to war.

The Gray Death comment... They got a lot more press than their table top stats were ever able to back up. The stories/books were good but the table top scenarios..... ugh. The Invader in my area was the mark that your unit had 'made it'. The Scout class Jumpship was a large leap forward. Heck most units could be carried by a single scout and their dropship. The Roleplay of an Invader because of the extra dropships carrying personnel, families, salvage, trade, income for Taxi services, etc. was tremendous.

They add a lot to the universe and it would be cool to see more use of them in a future PC game. For roleplaying sessions they are one of those big achievement milestones for the group I agree. Having something as prized as a jumpship was a big deal.

Another great video. You did the merchant class the other day. Did you ever do the Scout class jumpship?

Yes it was before the Merchant, should only be a couple up on the playlist.

You say "Gray Death", but at least as far as their battles on Caledonia and the invasion of their holdings by Free Skye forces, they didn't own any jumpships at all. I think they might have finally negotiated the long-term use of a Merchant Class in that book, but aside from that, they're completely dependent upon others for transportation.

So how many dropships can the Invader ferry across the stars?

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  2 роки тому

Three in total. These can be quite large though so a single invader can ferry a fair amount of military personnel and equipment for a single operation.

The invader is a common merchant use jumpship everywhere...

Since this material is from the original book detailing dropships and jumpships it was likely altered over time or retconned. Though common doesn't mean in vast abundance considering the destruction or even attack of a jumpship is a major issue and no great house openly performs such actions without calculating the risk first.
TLDR - This isn't my writing, it is from the book verbatim.

46 percent of all jumpships are invaders (in use) and 32 percent are in merchant use page 20 dropships and jumpships 1988 first edition

@@janwitts2688 If you are responding to the Periphery comments, I stand by those because the Periphery isn't counted in statistics regarding the "Inner Sphere" in universe as Comstar use different statistics for those states. This is also because the Periphery states will actively hide their assets so the great houses know less about their navies in case of invasion. I think one of the periphery sourcebooks has a write up about the state of commerce in the region(s) compared to the Inner Sphere. As far as the 46 percent of all jumpships line goes it is a weird one since sarna has it written with that line but then adds "as of 3055" which is strange since as you mention above that line is from a book written before the clans were added to the game.
I can only assume they retconned the percentage and now suggest a lower number before then? What's your view of that because to be honest I think it was correct originally and by 3055 the number should be higher especially with the Helm memory core coming into play and allowing the great houses to reactivate or build new facilities.

In a campaign I played in we managed to find a mothballed Potemkin. Found it orbiting the moon of an abandoned world that had been nuked by Amaris. We spent a massive amount of time getting that thing out of mothball and back into action, but it was worth it. Having said that, it was so expensive to jump or risk, that it became more like out home base then our transport.

    Hello CR.
Another fine video from you and the hard work shows.
The Invader Class Jump Ship is one of the firsts Jump Ships any Mercenary Leaders wants to lay his/her hands upon. This is mostly due to the three docking ports for Drop Ships.
A single Invader can carry up to three Overlord Class Drop Ships, thus moving a re-inforced Regiment, and all it's vehicles from front to front as needed.
Most Mercenaries, none of them the largest and most well known, would find it difficult to field more than a triplet of Union Class Drop Ships. But even three Unions is more than enough for most Contracts and most Mercenary Commands.
Personally, I had possession (and outright ownership) of one of two Merchant Class Jump Ships before I even came into possession of a single Invader Class Jump Ship. This 'trend' continued throughout my years of playing the game, and dozens and dozens of RPG sessions.
The 'extra' docking collar on the Invaders came in handy when it came time to move out from the Inner Sphere to build a 'secret' colony out in the Periphery. Once the Ghost Lions Legion came into 'official' existence, most of the Invaders in my possession were used to move Legions of Mechs and Vehicles to deal with Contracts. The Merchant Class ships relegated to moving cargo and personnel for the most part.
As said, most Mercenary Commanders worth their salt will want to 'buy' an Invader for themselves. However, most start out 'renting' space to dock from privately owned Jump Ships, at least at first. Later on, if the Mercs are successful, they may be able to buy an older Invader, or 'take over' one from it's previous owners by paying off debts owed, and buying out the crew's 'ship shares'.
    Just a few thoughts
