Marmite and cheddar.
English breakfast, a few tips. Back bacon, never American or Canadian they are not the same. Don't cook it American style and never put any sort of syrup on it. Don't rush it and you don't need to cook it all at once in one pan. Using the oven is ok. For your first time keep it to 5 items. There is not a recipe just a list of ingredients.
Baked bean and fried egg Sandwhich 👍
I feel you guys actually give a real review, most people are stuck in their ways like most Americans don't like English food cause it isn't American,. but you guys go in to these things with a open mind,
try sausage sandwich ,
fry the sausage butter the bread. put some ketchup on and enjoy 👍🇬🇧
The most important thing for Beans on Toast is to not be shy with buttering the toast first. I don't understand the science of food but the butter really does enhance the flavour once you put the beans on top.
I put a bit of butter in the pan when cooking the beans.
I add cheese to my beans on toast, beans and cheese in a jacket/baked potato
Good shout 😋
What kind of cheese do you use?
@@loveandjunkfood I normally use a mature cheddar, there are 2 ways to do the cheese and beans on toast melt the cheese on the toast and pour your beans over or put your beans on first and then top off with grated cheese
@@loveandjunkfood cheddar cheese. Grated
I love the toast to have butter and marmite. Beans must be hot with some grated cheddar on top. It's also nice with a poached egg on top. HP Brown sauce is really nice in a bacon sandwich and a English fry up. 😋
At last another marmite lover.
We are going to try all of this!!! YUM!
Oh no not marmite 😂. You either love or hate it ha ha.
You can have beans on toast any time of day. breakfast, lunch, dinner or as we call them breakfast, dinner and tea. 😁
Yay someone else who says dinner and tea!
Try them on toast with a splash of Worcestershire sauce and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese in top. I also put a dash of Worcestershire sauce on top of cheese on toast. Delicious!! HP sauce is an alternative to use as well. Love to use HP sauce on a bacon buttie (sandwich)as well as full English.
I think beans on toast is something you can eat at any time of the day. I like to put worcestershire sauce, cheese and pepper on mine, with ketchup on the side. I usually have it for lunch for supper.
As a Brit, I just have white bread, buttered with Cornish Butter which is infused with sea salt and Baked Beans, usually Branston Baked Beans, but Heinz is the most well known. There all nice on toasted buttered crumpets (Warburtons Brand Crumpets) oh and on/in jacket potatoes (baked potatoes)
My favourite way is:
Marmite on two slices of hot buttered toast, a soft poached egg on one piece and hot beans on the other piece.
Absolutely delicious.
Heinz beans are available here in a low sugar version and also with sausages similar to what you described with beanie weenies, many ways to tweak the basic beans choose one or mix n match. I prefer melting in a small knob of butter which makes them glossy and feel 'richer' a judicious squirt of brown sauce stirred in, at the last moment a handful (to taste) of grated Cheddar melted in, serve with either a fried or poached egg, if fried a wet yolk on the toast beans on top mixing the yolk into beans Yummo, if poached place on top slice up and dig in 👍
Hi, I actually hate hot beans, I put mine in the fridge for a good while, til they are really cold and eat them on their own. It brings out the flavour more, in my opinion. X
A popular quick meal over here is Fish Sticks (we call them Fish Fingers), Mashed Potatoes and Heinz Baked Beans with Heinz Ketchup (or HP Sauce) swirled over the top or a dollop on the side next to the fish fingers, or somewhere else on the plate.
HP Sauce is nice on a bacon and fried egg sandwich, no butter on bread! So layered it's Bread, Bacon, fried egg, dollop of HP sauce (or heinz ketchup), then bread on top give it a squish as we do with all sandwiches and munch away haha.
Full English Breakfast we like it = Bacon, Sausage (Links), Fried or Scrambled Egg, Chopped/Diced Tomatoes (can) or Sliced and fried fresh tomato, heinz baked beans, black pudding, a hash brown, Fried mushrooms, fried bread (fried in the grease from the bacon and sausage) and either Heinz ketchup or HP Brown Sauce swirled over the top or just on the side. Buttered toast on a side plate. Don't forget the Cuppa (cup of tea).
After recently being able to get hold of some Bush's Country Style Baked Beans, I think they would go well on toast. But our bread is not as sweet as American bread. I do have a sweet tooth though.
Enjoy!
Hp sauce or ketchup on a sausage/ bacon sandwich is basically the staple in the UK. Use hp sauce sparingly to begin with, its quite a strong flavour when you use too much. Most people put regular cheddar on their baked beans. I add a small amount of butter, salt and pepper when cooking the beans, although you can improvise, everyone has their own version do what makes you happy!
English lady here - proper full english consists of sausages, bacon, fried/scrambled eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, hash browns, half a fried tomato, black pudding and sometimes fried bread and also a side of buttered toast.
You can have baked beans with sausage and mash, or with a jacket potato with cheese on. HP sauce is good with pie and mash, on a bacon or sausage sandwich or on a full english breakfast 👍
I love what we call Cheesy Beanos, which is like grilled cheese with beans under the cheese. So good! Beans on toast are a classic childhood lunch in the UK. It's nothing fancy but every uk household has a can of beans laying around and some bread, so its often just a super easy convenient tasty meal.
Also! I can't wait for your English Breakfast video! Did you know that each of the 4 countries in the UK has their own variations of this? I'm from Scotland, so our version has potato scone (tattie scones), which are just the best part. They are these little thin fried potato things that just go so well in a full breakfast. :) We also have square sausage and black pudding.
Beans on toast is just a staple quick snack. For me, a full English breakfast is bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, fried eggs and either toast or fried bread with the essential tomato ketchup or HP sauce. Baked beans are also good on a baked potato with grated cheddar cheese.
I always add something to the beans, a little paprika, cumin, garlic salt, onion granules, worcestershire sauce etc. just to add a little kick, then for beans on toast I love a thick chunk of well toasted sourdough bread as it's firmer and more crunchy, then a big pile of grated Cheddar cheese on top. I'm not a big HP sauce fan, it's basically interchangeable with tomato ketchup though, most people either like one or the other or both and use them for the same things. My favourite fried breakfast is fried bread, bacon, sausages, fried eggs, fried mushrooms, fried tomatoes and baked beans with a nice strong cup of tea.
you can add beans to fried egg, ham and chips. as well as put HP sauce on the chips. you can also eat the beans cold with a salad. HP is good on sausages, bacon, chips, potatoes and you could even use it on your beans on toast.
Cheese and potato pie is baked beans on the bottom mashed potato on top with small amount of cheese mixed in then cheese on top baked in the oven until cheese bubbles and browns great with Cumberland sausages
On toast,
Plain with bread
With anything like mash and cheese flan
With fish n chips
Full English (Sausage, egg, beans, toast, fried bread, mushrooms, black pudding, bacon, hash brown, grilled or fried tomato)
With any meal you just season to taste.
There are other varieties like Branston (a pickle maker) beans, curried beans, bangers n beans (with Sausages)
Great video ,the way I have beans on toast is heavily buttered toast beans and brown sauce which we call hp sauce ,and a fried breakfast ,sausage eggs ,tomatoes ,beans mushrooms, toast , fried slice ,bacon but smoke back bacon ,black pudding ,some have white pudding and a lovely big cup of tea 👍👍
Hi guys,
Beans on toast but add an egg, either fried or poached.
Cheese on toast with beans on top.
Buttered jacket potato with beans and grated cheese.
Deffo beans with a full English breakfast and the HP sauce goes great with sausages and or bacon butties.
Cheese on toast with HP too.
There’s loads of ideas.
X
Beans on toast, beans in a jacket (baked) potato with cheese. Beans with hp sauce and black pepper on the side of a full English. Beans in a baked roll or baguette with fried egg, sausage etc.
That is such an amazing meal. Simple to make and tasty
HP stands for House of Parliament. Rumoured to have been used in the restaurant. Check the picture on the bottle :)..Goes great on hash browns and:on the side to dip sausages in and toast with beans on top but that's a matter of taste as it's quite strong... In the UK they do low salt and sugar versions... I prefer them... Enjoy 😊
Fried egg on top of the cheesy beans... Yum!
Yes i always put black pepper in there to spice it up a bit.
I'm English and I love Heinze beans on toast. I have it at least 4x a week. Just 10 years ago a rumour spread that there was gonna be a bean shortage due to a bad crop. Guess what ? My local supermarket had to impose a 2 tin per customer policy per day. It didn't work of course. People just sent in their family members to buy tins. The shelves soon were empty.
I prefer the low salt and sugar variety. I add a nob of margarine and stire vigorously until the beans thicken. Then on toast with a spoon of Branston pickle. It's called a poor person's food but I don't care.
Oh btw, I honestly don't suffer from gas. Yummy.
This takes me back haven't had beans on toast for years! I'd have it as a small tea...(tea being what I call the 5-6 o'clock meal) if I wasn't very hungry. As Brits I think we can be very particular about how we like our full English breakfast, my peculiarity is the beans can't be next to the egg...and the HP sauce can't mix with the bean juice. Love your videos!
Yay, glad you liked them!! Adding grated cheddar on top is delicious or a bit of cracked black pepper and definitely butter the toast! I love Branston Baked beans the best but Heinz is by far the most popular in the UK. Do you ever have jacket potatoes? They go perfectly with them too, butter, cheese, beans on top to melt the cheese underneath. Or I like coleslaw on my potato with them too but that might not be as much of a popular choice here.
Toast, beans and grayed cheese or in a toasted sandwich (toasties as we in the UK call them) with ham & cheese full English, sausage, egg, bacon, fried bread, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns black pudding(if available) brown sauce goes nice with bacon & egg as does ketchup also.with your baked beans try adding butter, vinegar or ketchup (UK ketchup)
Beens on toast is a quick to cook anytime you're hungry staple. I often put a fried egg on top and if I'm extra frivolous I put a layer of cheese on the toast then the beans and then a fried egg
If you can get your hands on Branston beans, give them a try. I used to think heinz were the best but after trying Branston beans I never went back to heinz. Branston are a lot tastier imo.
same as you love branston beans more
Deffo Branston. I dunno if Heinz went downhill or whatever but Branston are top beans now.
Yes much better. My brother buys the M&S beans.
Branston in our house too!
The small white beans used to make Heinz Beanz are a type of haricot bean called 'Navy' beans. The other main ingredient is tomato puree, made with Mediterranean grown tomatoes. Every individual bean is checked for colour and size before they are allowed into a can of Heinz Beanz.
We do also like Heinz spaghetti( spaghetti in tomato sauce) on toast as well.served on top of buttered toast, you can have it anytime of day or when you are hungry. its quick to make and it's cheap.
I'm pretty particular how I cook my baked beans. Obviously I empty the tin into a pan and heat gently, but I swirl all the juice out of the tin with a little water. I then cook the beans until the excess water has been cooked off. That way the beans become soft and squishy. There is nothing worse for me than eating beans that are as hard as bullets!!!
Now that you have made the basic beans on toast, it's up to you how you decide to embellish it.
Try:
putting a slice of your favourite cheese or a slice of ham or both under the beans.
putting some grated cheese on top and placing under your grill until the cheese melts and goes golden and bubbly.
adding some BBQ sauce, spring onions (scallions) and chopped parsley before you start cooking.
As for HP sauce, wait until you make the full English (or in my case full Scottish) breakfast and just put a large dollop on the side of the plate and dip and mix with the food on the plate. The best part of a full breakfast is the mixing of the ingredients on the plate.
Baked beans are so versatile. Try them with grated cheese melted in, maybe a bit of curry powder, or chilli flakes. We eat them with just about anything. HP sauce can be used like ketchup. Particularly good with sausages, bacon, chips (not fries, UK Chips 😁).
Hi guys, i think you are definitely now honorary Brits! 🇬🇧 Beans on toast is the test - you passed!!! I think nearly every Brit has had beans (especially on toast) more times then they could ever count; from being a staple of student life to a quick breakfast/lunch/snack or quick easy food at anytime of day (or night). You will find everyone has their own way of making beans on toast (hot buttered toast, cheddar cheese on top, marmite, HP sauce, Ketchup, egg on top, on a jacket potato, the list is endless...) so glad you liked them - can't wait for the Full English breakfast ('Fry up') - again everyone will have a different way of making a fry up. Just to let you know Beans come in many varieties - you've now tried the classic beans - but they also have curried, BBQ, beans and mini sausages (Laura - similar to what you mentioned with your dad), 5 beans, low salt/sugar beans, and lots more...
SAAAAA WEEEEET!
Thick cut toast, buttered and Marmited, beans and a good grating of your preferred cheese on top... with a pinch of sea salt flakes sprinkled over. Perfect! Also, love a layer of scrambled tofu under the beans; obviously if you eat eggs, you can use those instead.
Crisp and bean butties got me through college haha gotta have the bread buttered and for a really cheeky kick through some cheese in as well.
Thought I was the only one
Never heard of this concoction before !! But adding cheese to most things is a winner ❤️😊
On a jacket (baked potato) with butter and cheese 😋x
Absolutely love beans on toast a filling quick tea. Toast must have butter on. If you want it even nicer grated chedder cheese on top amazing.
For the Heinz Baked Beans my wife likes to have them on baked jacket potato with cheddar cheese.
For the HP (House of Parliament) sauce I would say goes with everything on a Full English. But my favorite would be on a buttered, fresh, soft white roll with back bacon (fat trimmed).
Everyone has slightly different tastes, but I love my beans on toast using thinly sliced bread so you get a good crunch if you toast it well.a good amount of butter, then be quite generous with marmite to cut through the bean flavour and eat piping hot. If you can find them, use branston beans instead of heinz.
Baked beans on a baked potato with a sprinkle of cheese. HP sauce on a bacon or sausage sandwich or on a cheese sandwich or with a full english breakfast yummy
Our son has baked beans with cooked and sliced sausage on toast every Saturday lunchtime 😊
Hi guys! New subscriber. Been watching your videos, excellent! Beans on toast, fantastic! I have them for lunch sometimes rather than breakfast however I do have a couple of other meals involving beans. The first is classic English breakfast. I'm going to be quite specific to how I and my friends usually have it, which isn't really out there but more common up in the north of England rather than south(the people down south tend to be a bit more hoity toity/posh unless you're a farmer or eastenders from the lower class side of London. They tend to have an attitude more like the north of England with more a focus on the common working man rather than how much money and prestige you have). Anyway, 1st the bacon you have with it needs to be the more commonly used back bacon instead of belly bacon which I know is more widely used in America(you can cook to your own taste of course but many like it to be crispy). Beans are common but you could use fried tomatoes instead or even both if you like! We also don't really have a separate breakfast sausage but just use the more common one over here which is a 98% pork with the other 2% being some herbs and spices(Cumberland sausage is quite popular). Butter fried mushrooms are also common with a full English and widely used. Eggs can be fried or poached for a slightly healthier option. So to sum up and be precise, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs with butter fried mushrooms and tomatoes or beans or both and a couple of slices of buttered toast on the side. A good English breakfast tea with milk(and sugar for me) is also essential. 2nd, I was put onto this particular one by a cafe who started doing it about 30 yrs ago. It's 3 buttered cheese on toast with cheddar or personally I prefer extra mature cheddar with a full tin of Heinz baked beans over and 3 poached or fried eggs on top! Simple and easy but really tasty and filling if you're hungry! Wonderful! 👍Oh, just in case you couldn't tell, yes I am British/English, from Liverpool in the northwest in fact. Hope this helps! Keep up the great work guys! Loving your videos! Your both such an incredible lovely couple, it's fantastic and makes my heart sing! 😁😁👍👍
sausages , fried or scrambled egg, baked beans and buttered toast, sautéed chopped muhrooms you can’t beat it first thing in the morning
I love beans on toast with cheese or on a jacket potato with cheese and salad leaves. It's also good as an ingredient for a bean hotpot! British hotpots are a very homely, comforting kind of meal although a lot of our foods are I feel like. Beans are so good...
My grandson had these in preschool (called nursery there) in England!
Yeah
Beans on toast can be eating like that or with cheese on it
Or with fried onions ,
.the main 2 things essential for beans on toast is toast has to be buttered
And beans has to be Heinz
Good video 👍🇬🇧
You can top with grated cheddar. My favourite way to eat beans is to add crushed garlic and some herbs, fried leftover potatoes, extra tinned chopped tomatoes, cooked smoked sausage (like a mattessons type one). Fry off the potatoes and garlic add the chopped smoked sausages then beans and tomatoes. Put them in a casserole dish and heat through thoroughly and serve with sliced warm baguette with butter on.
The bread is the significant thing. Plain white sliced bread just gets very soggy (some people might like that!), but I prefer a chunky sourdough bread that gets really crispy on the outside crumb during toasting, firm and flavourful in the middle, with a good spread of unsalted butter on top that melts, then the heated beans. Bliss.
Fried egg with the baked beans is a must, they taste beautiful together.
Oh that sounds really yummy!
My fave is a couple nice, thick slices of fresh white bread, toasted, with a good amount of proper butter spread on. Then, grated cheddar cheese on the toast, the warmed beans on top to melt it a bit, then more grated cheddar on top! Put it all together and eat promtly so you eat it whilst still warm and the toast isn't left to get too soggy :)
I rarely eat breakfast, but I actually quite often choose to have beans on toast for dinner. Really it's a meal or snack for any time of the day :D
Also, that can is the standard original Heinz beans, but they also now do a "reduced sugar" version of that as well. We sometimes get those, I don't actually mind them.
HP brown sauce has a very distinctive taste, but you can use it the same as tomato ketchup, but sparingly. I put it on eggs, bacon, sausages and cornish pasties
I make potatoes sausage and beans, beans also nice on a fry of sausage, bacon, black pudding, white pudding and eggs.
normally you would cut the toast in say four and pick up the pieces of toast with your hand , cheddar cheese grated on top of the beans is nice too its a very cheap fast meal very healthy too
Jacket potato with grated cheddar cheese and baked beans are very popular here too 😋 I love baked beans and Heinz is a popular make but I prefer Branston baked beans as the sauce is slightly richer and thicker. Xx
I love beans on toast, usually for lunch on a cold winters day is good. Sometimes if we've overdone it on the weekend with takeaways and a big Sunday roast, we'd have Bake Bean Monday to try and justify all the crap we eat. Try buttering the toast, and then spreading a thin layer of English mustard before adding the beans. This adds a bit of a kick. Also I'm not sure if you've tried Cheese on Toast, another British main stay also known as Welsh rarebit. Grate the cheddar and plonk copious amounts of it on your toast and then add Worcestershire sauce and put back under the grill/Broiler until the cheese is golden and bubbling. Bloody hell, I'm hungry now!
I sometimes mix a little brown sauce in with my baked beans
Beans on toast is my favourite way to eat baked beans, but I also like them with a fry up. (I don't warm them up though, I prefer to eat them just as they are, straight out of the tin). Baked beans in a jacket potato is also a popular way of eating them, but personally I find it a bit too heavy for my stomach - need a good nap after eating that! You quite often see baked beans on children's menus (fish fingers, chips and beans / sausage, chips and beans etc.) I would say beans on toast is the most popular though. It's a cheap meal that is quick and easy to prepare, and very filling.
Poached egg on top of the beans. Sometimes a couple of slices of bacon (nice dry cured back back or middle bacon though). As for us Brits eating more beans than the rest of the world...I can believe that. I've been known to eat 2 of those sized cans in a day.
If you're having a full English it has to include black pudding. Hp sauce goes well with breakfast.
Got to try it with brown sauce makes it better
Poached eggs with beans. HP sauce chips, fried bread, and cheese sandwiches.
What you want is a BEOT! 😆 beans n egg on toast! Thickly buttered toasted bread, your BRITISH beans, a fried egg with a runny yolk and…. Then you can add a (very in my case!) large blob of HP sauce on your eggy! Pierce the egg so the yolk runs onto the beans and then tuck in - of course, you will need a large mug of hot tea to wash it down with…. 😉🤩😄 but seriously you can add what you like on your beans - a slice of breaded ham…some cocktail sausages (you can get these in the van WITH the beans), bacon, grilled cheese on the beans is yummy, to sum up, a BOT meal is just the perfect way of curing a hungry tummy! 👍🏻😄
I love having jacket Baked beans and cheese its yummy and so Comfort 😋
We use bean for any meal, especially kids love them, they're healthy and cheap. Put them with anything except a proper roast
Grate some cheddar cheese over the top of those beans 👍 HP wherever you fancy on the full English. Can also put the beans in a jacket (baked) potato with cheese 😋
Here in the UK our government has instructed food manufactures to lower salt and sugar in their produce.
I love beans on toast, and beans on a baked potato is delicious ..
In the UK COMPANIES they have a sugar tax so if they overload on sugar in food and drinks they pay more tax consequently they took alot of sugar from their products. Its done for health reasons. Love your videos.
Some ppl put cheese on but I don't. Nice on baked potato and may have cheese on that. Beans go nice with sausage, eggs and hash browns. Beans are nice with chips/fries. HP sauce is used like ketchup basically.
Did you butter the toast first? I would put grated cheese on my beans on toast for sure. But cheddar or red Leicester.
Try it with melted cheese and brown sauce yummy!
Toast, thin cheese, beans and worcestershire sauce, yummy
HP sauce on a bacon sandwich yummy 🌸🌸🌸🌸
I usually do plain toast with beans or cheesy toast made with really strong cheddar cheese (british cheddar of course lol) The bristish use approximately 2 million tins of beans a day so I've heard just a fun fact for you!
Butter the toast and add a bit of grated cheddar on top, maybe even a fried egg if your feeling adventurous
These are good with jacket potatoes with butter and grated cheese
With HP sauce. Divine 🥰 HP sauce on all breakfast 🥰
I would eat beans on toast exactly like that!!
Obviously on a full English breakfast!!
Also with sausage’s & mashed potato
And on top of a baked potato with melted butter
Cold toast with real butter, warm beans and grated cathedral city cheese on top 😋
Bacon, sausages, eggs. Tomatoes, black pudding, fried bread, fried mushrooms and baked beans. I have all these apart from the tomatoes 🍅
For me just put a good amount of good quality slightly salted dairy butter on the toast and then put the beans on top, the butter melts and just makes the experience just that more delicious for a light brunch or quick lunch.
We've got to try it just like that!
Hello from South Yorkshire btw ... lol
3:45 a little dash of HP is nice on beans
Ooo yummy. Now add a dash 0f Worcestershire Sauce and grated cheddar 😋😋😋
If you can get a can of Branston baked beans they are much better than Heinz.hp or brown sauce as we call it can be put on many foods,it's a bit fruity and a bit tangy and I love it on bread and butter.
Baked beans, quick easy snack or breakfast item? As a snack I melted in some grated cheese as they’re cooking .. amazing. As breakfast I add some pepper and a tiny blob of HP sauce, I also add a small blob on top of my fried egg. The only other time I used
HP sauce is to dip a pork pie in or a dribble on top of cheese on toast. I’ve stopped buying the regular beans you have in this vid and started getting the no added sugar ones … can’t even tell the difference lol but if you think those aren’t sweet you’d be shocked with the sugar free I guess. Enjoy the breakfast and the sauce. My parents use baked beans in a chilli because they don’t like kidney beans.
Chips egg and beans with bread and butter 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Put butter on the Toast , then some grated Cheddar Cheese then pour on the hot beans , then put some pepper on ...
Try a British-style bacon butty. back bacon (not streaky), buttered white bread and hp sauce.
Grated cheddar cheese on top is great.
I use HP with beans on toast.
Beans on toast is amazing with grated cheese on top. Preferably cheddar not parmesan!
Add salt and pepper, put grated cheddar cheese on top of the cheese and toast, put a bit of hp sauce on top of the beans on toast, have a jacket potato with butter and beans and or cheese
Some people would add these beans in a chilli also, instead of kidney beans
Have the HP sauce on a bacon sandwich with white bread and plenty of butter.
It would be interesting to compare the ingredients list, including additives, side by side.
I love hp sauce just with chips (fries). Lots of people have it on their bacon sandwich, I’m ketchup all the way for that though.
Beans on toast can be a cheap meal for a family on a tight budget. Using an off brand can of beans and some store brand bread can feed a family of 4 for £1.02 ($1.38). Asda Smart price beans 0.22 x 2 = 0.44p Asda medium loaf 0.58. I myself prefer spaghetti hoops which does work out cheaper 0.13 x 2 =.26 loaf 0.58 = .84 ($1.14)
