Step aboard a hand-built 61 cubic inch Harley Boardtracker with Mike Lange and see what its like to run wide open on the half mile dirt track at Davenport 2011
I’m a lifelong motorcyclist and avid Flat Track fan. There is something about watching this video that is not only extremely interesting but also a source of pride in being part of a long-standing community of enthusiasts. Thank you to the men and women keeping this tradition alive and for sharing it here. 🏍🍾😁
drewling ower the keyboard . . and gets heavy heart beats ... reaching for the valium . . . .amazing racing mike . . . Cant wait to try out my stroker solo on the dirt tracks. A dream wold bee to race there with you some day . . . Good Luck with your racing!!
In a interview under *Davenport Motorcycle Racing(UA-cam), The rider here--*Michael Lange, said he was pulling down 71MPH in the straightway with this 61c.i. JD Motor and his current gearing for the Davenport 1/2 Mile.
They are small engines so to speak but this is a 61 cubic inch engine man. mounted to a bicycle frame, with a 150 pound man on it. The engine has no transmission, instead the drive is directly coming off of the crank. giving instant power. This is why you have to push start them and they have not clutch.
Matt, have I got a track for you all!! The full thrill of the hard surface board track (asphalt), 5/8 mile, the high banking (at one time the banking was steeper than Talledega, but has since been toned down a little. It's sitting vacant with no scheduled racing. The Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Superb. Nashville got it's big new Nascar track and they are talking about tearing the Fairgrounds Speedway down. Everyone from Barney Oldfield, Foyt, Jr Johnson etc has run there. [more in next post]
This is insane, these bikes have far more character than the modern plastic rockets, they should bring this style of racing back its far more entertaining.
I think they get up to like 90mph (145km/h), I know the old board track races from the really old days were 90-100+mph. Maybe these guys don't go quite as fast though, I don't know. Edit: one of the other comments says he got up to 71MPH( ~114km/h), said so during an interview.
NO scheduled racing at all. The contact would be a guy named Tony Formosa. He owns it and is trying to save it. Very historic and Nashville is a great tourist town for you guys. You damned sure need to check into it. Here is a YT video: /watch?v=tTLnLgZ1yUE , "NASCAR RaceHub: Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville"
i fuckin hate this part of the world im in, nothing cool as far as motorsports go,,,, but anyway thought you might like to know this video got to me soooo much that im makeing my own board track look alike. videos to come
Avool V the Board track in the tittle refers to the style of bikes in the race. These bikes are replicas of the types of bikes they used to race on board tracks.

This makes you feel like you are right there driving the bike. Amazing to watch racing with no brakes or gears. Great job. Thanks for posting
Please post more of these. It's got my blood flowing! What a thrill.
Always wanted to ride one of these old beasts .
Thanks for taking me for the ride. Just recently got hooked on board trackers. Have to build one
Did you ever build one
I was just waiting for that throttle to be wound up , great stuff
Dang that was cool to watch! Thanks for posting. I really enjoy WTT also. Great place to visit. Keep these vids coming.

Sounds so good.

Wide bars-and no Brakes!! ..What a Machine...
no shifting, no, clutch, no brakes, no throttle only timing adjustment and maybe a killswitch. just a bicycle and 1000cc
very cool... they should have used some of this footage for Harley and the Davidsons...
Why?
Now THAT was freaking awesome !!
6:55 whoa there
I bet they both spoke of far canals with that back straight pass, there wasn't much room there. Great video.
Thats some crazy ridin brother
or throttle if I'm correct. I believe its just power on or off hence the no power and rolling through turns
They built these things and raced them . To the Nay sayers , what position did you get ?
If I was super rich, I'd build one of the old style wood tracks and have races like this all the time.
The pass at 6:58 was sweeet!
I want to go to one of these races!!
Looks like loads of fun !
Endurance has a lot to do with the final outcome...I love this!
Anything with no brakes is good!!!!
insane...tumb up from quebec !
Yeah Baby! I am the slow one in da way! A twin for me!
Speechless.... Amazing!!!
That motor sounds quite healthy.
Is this the Mississippi Valley fairgrounds track in iowa??????
Interesting protractor like friction steering damper.
Is that some kind of steering damper behind the triple clamp? If they even called them triple clamps back then.
yes this is an awesome video!
That was fun..
How the hell did you let them get ahead of ya! Pick it up go go go!
Nah, he was lapping them
Y'all messed that "Board" track up bad when you throwed dirt all over it. We hold our board track races at the skatin' rink.
Best sound
Why is he not holding the bottom of the handle, fyi I’m kinda new to board track racing
If I'm not mistaken these bikes are small engined right? If so, why the hell do they run so fast? Excuse my ignorance... and thanks in advance
the shadows make it look like he's being passed by ghost riders from back in the day.
Da arrepio de ver mais adoraria anda numa moto dessas
how much fast are you going in straight line (sorry for bad english) ?
I think they get up to like 90mph (145km/h), I know the old board track races from the really old days were 90-100+mph. Maybe these guys don't go quite as fast though, I don't know.

More please.
Is this from the series home movies that are guaranteed to get your life insurance canceled?
so sickkk
Would want to do this.
Now tune the carb on a dyno and it might just run a little better, or should say scareier.
man all i got is a 80cc what kind of motors do you use?
u can do it with a 50cc engine so i think u should be fine with one of those
Ian Chesney he's using a 61ci
What's the fastest do you suppose you were doing during this?
I agree. I believe i had been drinking when i posted that haha!

i fuckin hate this part of the world im in, nothing cool as far as motorsports go,,,, but anyway thought you might like to know this video got to me soooo much that im makeing my own board track look alike. videos to come
I don't think old Hank woulda of done it this way
sound like airplanes
How come most of the other riders ended up cruising slowly around the inner part of the track long before the race was over?
Want that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Christ, the fukin note makes the hair on the back of your neck stand to attention!
💓
i wouldnt say 1000cc is a small engine haha
Davenport Iowa.
👍👍
Their is no winning, just finishing
👍❤
Looks suspiciously like someone has a twist grip throttle. 😩
That ain't a board track.
Avool V the Board track in the tittle refers to the style of bikes in the race. These bikes are replicas of the types of bikes they used to race on board tracks.
Its a speedway track all dirt
👍
race it like you stole it
Sure is interesting. However, the track is flat, there is no bank. Very different from the orignal sport.
Yes there is...
Riding on dirt 🤔 kinda can't call it board track racing now can you.
the boarding is around the outside, so if'n there's a big crash mottysickles don't go in to the crowd
btw: you're very welcome
Iowa
Click bait says it is made of wood not dirt.
It's the type of motorcycle. It's a board tracker.
@@VndNvwYvvSvv I was not trying to imply that the motorcycle was made of wood. But that track is dirt not wood.
@@davestambaugh7282 the motorcycles are called “Board track racers”.
@@loganreuter6072 Yea because the tracks that they raced on had such high banked turns that it was inposible to make them out of dirt.
61ci = 1000cc
No boards no Bank to the track that's called Flat tracking and I don't see anyone doing any sliding either
It is banked, and it's referring to the type of bike
anyone else annoyed by his hand positions?! lmao
👍
