I am a proud Black American that grew up on R&B, Soul Music and Jazz with some Soft Rock and little Hard Rock. I did not know a lot of people like me that enjoyed the diversity of my taste in music, although I know they were around. With that said, I only heard this song when I played it or at the record store. Not even much air play on the radio. Even considering how funky it is. Incredible! Great song! One of the greatest guitarist ever, the cat was TIGHT! I saw Frank LIVE in Cleveland, Ohio back in the day then saw his son Dweezil in Charlotte. The fruit didn't fall from the tree.......Dweezil was just as amazing. WMMS radio in Cleveland always played his music....even "Dinah-Moe Humm". Ahh the good ole days when radio was not the garbage it is today.....PURE GARBAGE!

Saw Zappa in concert 5 tines during the late 70s and 80s. Fantastic shows and he always had great musicians in his band. He was very popular, even hosting Saturday Night live in their heyday! I think Zappa would make an interesting subject for a college psych student, studying the diverse capabilities of the mind, and almost infinite complexity when an individual applies themselves in ways they never thought possible.
Not only was Zappa one of the best (the best imo) guitar players ever, he also composed everything his bands played - every piece. He worked tirelessly his entire short life and is credited for over 120 full releases, about half posthumously by the Zappa Trust. One of the most brilliant and original artists of the 20th century.
I saw Frank 5 times in one week. LA, Santa Barbara, Berkeley, Sacramento and Reno. They played Inca Roads each show but Franks lead guitar solo was different each time. Playing a improvised lead each time always put Zappa apart from the others who spent years learning just one solo. Zappa was the best guitar player.

This is the reason why he was constantly looking for new talent. He didn’t ask yor name, if you could play his stuff, you were in (Vai, Bozzio, Colaiutta, Underwood, Keneally and so on). Zappa is a mindblower, for sure! Besides his guitar chops, a trememdous band leader and arranger as well. The whole production is run by his single vision and direction. You might like to know that Zappa once performed with John Lennon live at the Fillmore East in 1971.
There are grooves so funky on "Joe's Garage" they can literally take you places in your mind. And every time you hear it after that your mind will return to the cosmic groove. Zappa was a musician/magician.
Joe's Garage would be a perfect Introduction Album for Harri, but it must be played 1/2 album at a time without interruption, because of the contiguous storyline. Otherwise it is a bit confusing. Played as a whole ACT 1 is pure genius. Best song on Act 1 is is Lucille.

Frank Zappa was a musical genius. He was one of the most incredible guitar players of all time, and you really haven't heard anything yet. Frank had an amazing grasp on The human condition, and the gullibility of the masses. He always thought outside the hypercube. Much of his music foretold current conditions in the world. You will notice that in live performances, the music sounds different than the studio recordings. He never repeats a guitar solo. He once said that a solo is a piece of time that you get to decorate. Look up "Inca Roads". It will blow your mind, or at least knock your socks off.

I was 16 when I was presented his album Freak Out with Help I'm a Rock. Extraordinary. Several years later I saw his show live at Florida State University in the gym. Big show. .

Let me tell you this quick story- I was hitchiking back from a guitar lesson and got picked up by a reviewer for the LA times. He asked who my favorite guitar players were, I replied Ritchie Blackmore, Leslie West, Frank Zappa so I ended up meeting Frank recording in the studio and joined him for buffet dinner. My impression to this day (I was 19 then, 68 now) is that Zappa was the ONLY NON-DYSFUNCTIONAL person I ever met. He described his music as snatches of musical time. He left over 80 albums half of them doubles. He wrote a song INNA GADDA STRAVINSKY his favorite composer. I lucked into meeting the genius once in Boston where we talked about some of his German lyrics. It may have been because I knew some of his chums back in Charlotte, so the law of social triangularity had already created a partial meeting between our souls, which only needed to be completed from a dotted line to a straight line, conceptually. Frank Zappa would win the Playboy Music Poll almost every year in the early 70's ,for Best Guitarist. He is now recognized as a Great Composer, his music played by Symphony Orchestras , all over the World. He could write complex sheet music like the rest of us write our names. Frank composed all the music and all the band had sight read the score. He also had a unique style of conducting. He also had a strict no drugs policy. Check out "The best band you never heard" it broke up after a European tour and ISaw them in Brighton.
Zappa's music background is crazy. His very first band was a mixed race R&B band, in the 1950s, in the middle of the desert in Southern US. You can imagine how well that went down with the locals lol. But yeah blues and R&B are very fundamental to the zappa sound as it's definitely what he grew up on. Also, if Zappa had been alive during the internet, I genuinely think he would have ran for president. He was talking about it a lot in his last years and getting more and more political, i think that was something he was working towards. At one point a couple years before he passed on he was the Cultural Minister for the Czech Republic Government just after they left the USSR. True story. The man was the definition of genius.

To get a picture of his opinion and status: check a song from his very first album, 1966, "Trouble every day". For genres and styles, he mixed everything. Pick some of his instrumental pieces. Some half a dozen albums are close to pure instrumental, like "The grand wazoo". There are a lot of musical surprices everywere but the lyrics may hide the treasures...
Frank would have loved the internet. He was a huge advocate for freedom of expression, and stopping censorship, especially in regard to music artists. Yes, that was Frank on guitar, and the backup singers here are Tina Turner and the Ikettes. I recommend Don't Eat the Yellow Snow for someone just getting into Zappa. Zappa nearly always had at least a couple of black band members, and he really loved early R'n'B (back in the day when R'n'B meant something else than it seems to mean nowadays). Actually, really early on, in the 60's before The Mothers of Invention, he played in what was pretty much the only mixed black/white band in the vicinity. And that simple fact caused them quite some trouble trying to get gigs in those days.
They used to call tv the boop tube. I remember in the 70s he had a special concert every Halloween in NYC. I was a kid then but I think my memory is correct. It might have been announced on the radio.

Yes. That is Frank playing the guitar. Frank is a rabbit hole truly worthy of jumping into. Been a fan since the 70s. Try the song "You Are What You Is". It's a bit irreverent, but that's Frank.
I used to have a T-shirt from one of his concerts that said "Zappa is Frank"
He had a very unique guitar style. In those days he was more popular in Europe (UK, Holland) - "Zomby Woof" would be a fine place to go to next. It's from the same era. The Ikettes and Tina are doing the back vocals again.

It's him allright, playing the guitar, and he was unique in that he would never play it the same way twice. Even as his compositions were immaculate, every performance was an improvisation for guitar, he would've been bored doing it any other way. There's a famous interview of him explaining it. There's a video of Frank & The Mothers doing this song on Saturday Night Live back in the day. Also, Tina Turner & The Iketts did the backing vocals on this album.
This song comes off of the album "Overnight Sensation", it's one of my favorite albums, Tina Turner and the Ikettes sang back up on the album. I still have my original vinyl copy that I got in the 70s.

Hari love you love this. Frank was probably the most musically knowledgeable person of the 20th century, His autobiography is called NO COMMERICIAL POTENTIAL. Let me tell you this quick story- I was hitchiking back from a guitar lesson and got picked up by a reviewer for the LA times. He asked who my favorite guitar players were, I replied Ritchie Blackmore, Leslie West, Frank Zappa so I ended up meeting Frank recording in the studio and joined him for buffet dinner. My impression to this day (I was 19 then, 68 now) is that Zappa was the ONLY NON-DYSFUNCTIONAL person I ever met. He described his music as snatches of musical time. He left over 80 albums half of them doubles. He wrote a song INNA GADDA STRAVINSKY his favorite composer. You are one of my favorite reactors my bestie, may I please request FLOWERS OF EVIL by Mountain it always brings tears to my eyes. This album was my introduction to Frank Zappa at the age of thirteen when it came out.
He was definitely one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived.
And to this day he is still my favorite.

I lucked into meeting the genius once in Boston where we talked about some of his German lyrics. It may have been because I knew some of his chums back in Charlotte, so the law of social triangularity had already created a partial meeting between our souls, which only needed to be completed from a dotted line to a straight line, conceptually. My friend Hari, yes that is Zappa playing guitar . He has two albums called "Shutup and Play yer Guitar" Zappa knew more about music than anyone in the 20th century. He had a song called "Ina Gada Stravinsky". I met him. He had over 79 albums, (half double albums) Great watching it with you. Hey Hari he wrote an autobiography "No Commercial Potential" His son Dwezil just re-mastered Deep Purple Machine Head. One of my greatest times (again and again ) with you was when we watched Lazy with you

Frank Zappa would win the Playboy Music Poll almost every year in the early 70's ,for Best Guitarist. He is now recognized as a Great Composer, his music played by Symphony Orchestras , all over the World. He could write complex sheet music like the rest of us write our names. He passed much too soon!
The Zappa song you need to hear is "Watermelon in the Easter Hay", and it would be nice if you added "A Little Green Rosetta" - the culmination of his "Joe's Garage" albums. THANK YOU!!!

Frank composed all the music and all the band had sight read the score. He also had a unique style of conducting. He also had a strict no drugs policy. Check out "The best band you never heard" it broke up after a European tour and ISaw them in Brighton.
Zappa's music background is crazy. His very first band was a mixed race R&B band, in the 1950s, in the middle of the desert in Southern US. You can imagine how well that went down with the locals lol. But yeah blues and R&B are very fundamental to the zappa sound as it's definitely what he grew up on.
Also, if Zappa had been alive during the internet, I genuinely think he would have ran for president. He was talking about it a lot in his last years and getting more and more political, i think that was something he was working towards. At one point a couple years before he passed on he was the Cultural Minister for the Czech Republic Government just after they left the USSR. True story. The man was the definition of genius.

To get a picture of his opinion and status: check a song from his very first album, 1966, "Trouble every day". For genres and styles, he mixed everything. Pick some of his instrumental pieces. Some half a dozen albums are close to pure instrumental, like "The grand wazoo". There are a lot of musical surprices everywere but the lyrics may hide the treasures...
Frank would have loved the internet. He was a huge advocate for freedom of expression, and stopping censorship, especially in regard to music artists. Yes, that was Frank on guitar, and the backup singers here are Tina Turner and the Ikettes. I recommend Don't Eat the Yellow Snow for someone just getting into Zappa. Zappa nearly always had at least a couple of black band members, and he really loved early R'n'B (back in the day when R'n'B meant something else than it seems to mean nowadays). Actually, really early on, in the 60's before The Mothers of Invention, he played in what was pretty much the only mixed black/white band in the vicinity. And that simple fact caused them quite some trouble trying to get gigs in those days.
They used to call tv the boop tube. I remember in the 70s he had a special concert every Halloween in NYC. I was a kid then but I think my memory is correct. It might have been announced on the radio.
