one evening I watched a show on PBS called rock and roll odyssey. I knew about these guys because I was a rock and roll fan. but I didn't have "full exposure" and didn't know their story. About halfway through the program, I sat right up and said out loud "these guys are amazing" and then I was off and running. within 2 years I caught the first show as they were touring late 80s. Then a another year went by and they were scheduled for a summer show. I called the theater and told them I had purchased "golden circle" tix advertised as a meeting with the star and had been notified that it wasn't going to happen. He told me to come directly to his office the night of the show and I did. He then walked me over to a back building and I stood there at the end of a hallway. Supposedly I would catch them upon arrival. Just as I turned to talk to someone they showed up behind me and I turned slowly and was almost nose to nose. [ever see the scene in I Love Lucy where Lucy is pretending to talk to Van Johnson who is asleep? She turns and Van is awake and nose to nose? it was exactly like that]. I'll spare the long details but the brief interlude convinced me that their personalities were polar opposites: yin to the other's yang. While that has its drawbacks it also can be very special...............I can't believe they are gone.
Early 50's is not old. "For being in their early 50's." Most people I know look just fine in their early 50's and not even in the entertainment business.
I love archive footage like this. The only issue being the ear destroying high frequency that only young ears (like mine) hear. Love The Everly Brothers!
The best voices in the world and the most gorgeous ,handsome beautiful men in the world, they are Icons and Legends .Phil voice is so pure and exquisite .All their songs are so awesome and their voices are captivating .l ve always loved Phil and Don and always will .l will see you with the angels and hold and love you for ever ,I Bless The Day I Found You ,Devoted To You .all my love to you for ever ,RIP my darlings ,in my heart for ever quote by .Paula xx and I love her interpretation of these 2 genius people that set the standard never to be repeated
Both brothers have said there were indeed arguments between them, due mainly to the extreme pressures of working continuously nose to nose from being 6 and 8 years old… and that went on into their early thirties in 1973 when they broke up for a while. And because that break-up was so public and dramatic, that’s all people want to talk about - especially the media. Fact is, as they both said, most brothers fall out, make up, fall out and so on. They were also quite different personalities - Don quieter, more serious and introverted, Phil more outgoing and an extrovert - though Don came out of his shell during their ten year break, as can be seen when they reunited in 1983. But alongside those arguments, there were also good times through all their years together, when they got on just fine, despite the pressures. Shame is, everyone focuses on them not getting on, when that was only part of the story. I guess the media love to find drama whenever they can.
@@Keranu They were both very confident performers, knowing they would always be in tune and in harmony - probably because they started so young. I don’t think Phil was really shy - he often grinned kind of bashfully when he was about 18, but he knew that was his appeal! Fair enough! But in fact, Phil said he loved being on stage but hated the travelling on tour. Another of their differences because Don liked travelling around, and liked being in the studio doing their arrangements and influencing production of their records.
You're right, judy. I was playing guitar with 'the boys' the night they broke up. I'd played with them on and off from the spring of '64 until the split in the fall of '73, and the biggest mistake people could make was thinking they were anything alike. It's not an easy life, and it can certainly take it's toll physically and mentally. But, hey... it gives people something to talk about.🙄
@@sammccue500 I’ve seen you with them on UA-cam videos, Sam. Particularly the show filmed at the country club in Sydney, Australia. And I remember Don saying in one, “take it away, Sam”, or some such remark! I think that might have been you. Anyhow, I’ve always had the impression that both Everlys respected and liked you. It must have been a real thrill playing guitar for them. Thank you for replying to my post.
I forgot that the 1980s were still going strong for the first few years of the 90s. Phil and Don may not have got along but they sure sounded great together.
I have often wondered about that. I know Edan, Don’s son, goes to Shenandoah with his wife and daughter, to visit where his father and uncle grew up. It would be great if the Homecoming festivals were still continuing.
There has never been, nor will there ever be two voices so perfectly matched in harmony. Phil and Don were real legends.
I’m so glad I was raised on The Everly Brothers. They will forever be one of my favorite Rock N Roll duos! 🙏🏻
Best duo of all time! Classic artists!
Wonderful interview. I loved hearing what intelligent and well-thought out answers they both gave.
They where the ultmate harmonisers long before anyone else, I loved thier music so sad theyre gone!
What a wonderful interview much respect for these boys.

Phil to me always looked shyer on stage than Don.

So humble. They would say anything bad about other harmonists

They had a spat that separated them for 10 yrs but they loved each other.
💜🌹💜🌹💜🌹
So cool! And Tom petty as well!
Are they still doing homecoming festivals and continue this initiative of the Everly Brothers?
I have often wondered about that. I know Edan, Don’s son, goes to Shenandoah with his wife and daughter, to visit where his father and uncle grew up. It would be great if the Homecoming festivals were still continuing.
Not bad for a couple of boys from Greenville, KY.
Schönste Profile.❤❤❤❤❤
dennoch😅
Cool cats.
Schöne Sprech-
stimmen. 😊
Don, tief und weich
aber....beide.😊
Um.die Äuglein sieht Phil hier, etwas angegriffen aus.😮
