Im not sure about that, when seer came out really broken everyone embraced him, But I dont know why they say Alter is not viable, she is full of potential
yes but at the same time they really can't afford to test new legends when they need the best practice possible in scrims when they know the Meta and what works. Just very risky / unnecessary unfortunately.
I found alter quite useful in ranked. There are lot of places you can cut through with her tactical if you are not using it for fights, which can be quite useful for rotation or even as repositioning. And her looting passive is always good for a way tp get heals even if you pick up for teamates. The ult can also be used to save teamates.
Shes not a scan legend has no area denial and can only provide rotates back to a spot that they’ve already been to which would give up space control. yeah i think the pros know what they talk about. she gets value in the early game like every other skirmisher does (which pros rarely take fights in) yeah i dont see her getting played in algs. Maybe mechanically gifted preds can do something with her but shes easily countered and doesnt offer enough to pick over the current meta of bang or bloodhound. Any reason a well respected pro would say a new character is strong is to bait another team into trying it. Sorry to be a bubble burster but the delusion lies with you
Alter is to fair i think. She delivers you the counterplay to her abilities on a silver platter. Like chasing the portal, chasing the ult, revealing her position with her passive. Her fairness makes her kit weaker the better the enemy is. Barely any other legend is as fair as alter.
Most of the pros tbh are delusionally aggressive and think that their little specific meta is the only way…until they get outplayed by a well coordinated team of not meta characters with good synergy

I always thought it was baffling that pros didn't pick Seer up sooner until Furia started that meta but Alter provides nothing really useful in fights in the open and even if you use her q on a building surface to push a team, you are just not pushing a team in Caustic meta. They'll just 3 man beam you or Caustic ult you and you'll likely get third partied. Her ultimate provides nothing in terms of winning fights. Not all legends are comp viable and that's fine.
Any player who is good at this game can make any legend strong enough to play in ALGs, objectively tho, her kit Isnt that great and has wayyyy more downside than upsides. 1 her ult doesnt feel snappy or viable tp use 2 her tactical is amazing but leave you incredibly vulerable 3 definelty needs better upgrades. Every thing you just said is objectively wrong. Her ult is VERY viable for res and resets. Her tactical lasts for 10 WHOLE SECONDS and can be used horizontally AND VERTICALLY, and also can have SCAN ABILITIES (like seer!) when upgraded. And all her upgrades change enhance or change the way she plays for herself OR her team. Yall just delusional in this community and it shows

They could, but it's no different than crawling into a Wraith portal, Horizon lift, Octane jumppad, etc. Plus, the enemies can literally follow the downed players through the portal... So it wouldn't really make a lot of sense to nerf that.
The surviving player would still be able to open a portal for the team to crawl through if they removed this feature, so removing it might not be so bad
She really is the new Ash because she's like Wraith and Horizon but not as gewd lol. Respawn are trying so hard to make her a Wraith counter/anti-Horizon instead of making her unique.

Maggie would only happen if Gibby/Newcastle became a huge thing. Ballistic just isn't going to happen. He doesn't really offer anything useful for holding ground. Rev is similar to Ballistic. They just don't bring any real balance. They are one-dimensional. Even Octane brings some team utility and he's like the worst competitive legend.

The thing that I think does limit Alter from being very good in pro play is just how clunky it is to use her ult. It's just a LOT of time and inconvenient criteria to get it to go off where if it was just a single button press without the need to hold and/or look directly at the ult, I think it would be a lot more viable the same way Revenant ult was for a while.
Agreed I’m a used to it because I’ve been playing a lot of her but I’ve had teammates who struggle to get the teleport off. Either they’re not looking at it right. Or the hold on the button doesn’t fully register. Definitely need to make the ult a bit more intuitive and easy to use.

He was always OP and broke the game. It was his flamboyance and JoJo' bizzare adventure look that made people want to brush him off. But his kit was too strong to ignore. Almost the same for Catalyst
My thing is that most new legends are not meta vintage, ash, new castle, or ballistic... she is pudg stomper because ult tele and tact... tact to flank people who are dumb and can't hear and ult tele to ape a fight... this will stop until people realize that you can chase by taking ult tele if some goes down... realistic her tact is good to get high ground and passive is mini loba shop but I don't think that is enough.... horizon is better legend.. better mobility better... worse passive... but better ult that can win a fight. Maybe extra nades whe gets at end might push her to be great but right now she is good. I think little better than wraith
The one huge complaint that I have always had about competitive Apex, is that playing a game with an enormous amount of legends/playstyles ALL of the pro teams play the exact same comp 9/10 times. Makes for boring gameplay imo
it's because there's always one dominant comp for each meta, and if you don't play it you lose. there are some teams that play off-meta comps but they've never won a LAN before. the current dominant comp is caustic/cat - bloodhound - bang for many reasons: 1. you need ring scan and recon scan, so every team always will have a recon/controller legend by default. 2. bloodhound has the best 1v1ing ult in the game and is the best information gatherer. 3. bang has massive synergy with bloodhound, further amplifying bloodhounds fragging power. 4. bang counters controller which is the dominant input at the highest level of play. 5. caustic/cat are the only two controller legends who can reliably take and hold space.
the main problem is that alter doesn't really fit into the ALGS team comp of anchor/fragger/utility (cat/blood/bang). she can't frag and she can't anchor and her utility is only strong if you're in-doors. if you're out in the open, which is what happens often in algs endzones, you die without a bang or gibby.

All the skirmisher kits are strong for outplays in fights, but there is a reason Horizon is the only one that saw high usage at the pro level. She had an offensive/zone denying ult that could be combo'ed/synergized with other abilities. Her lift has a wide range of offensive, defensive, and positional utility for the whole team. Even her passive is a nice perk to have when fighting not to mention randomly giving CoD's dead silence. The main issue for Alter is the ult has narrow use. It has to be used/positioned proactively and its still just a one-way retreat. It's in the same boat as Rev totem, which sure people can combo like Revtane, but in a pro lobby with 15+ teams squishing into zone 3 a team would rarely have the isolated fight to pull that off without getting 3P.

She is still just mid-tier. She literally offers nothing late game for her team. Shes better than Ash and worse than Wraith. Strong B tier and I would say that regardless of what pros think. Her ULT is actually pretty trash if you have to turn around and look at it to hit and youll just get thirsted by smart teams. It takes too long to use and is too clunky.
You can get away with using her tac selfishly a fair bit if you use your teammates as distractions/meat-shields, works especially well if you hava rev or gibby/conduit… after your team gets a knock is always a good time for it too
I mean, a legend that can move through walls and has a team-based escape system... Yeah, clearly she's pretty powerful. Sure, other players can follow you through the tac but that's still some serious utility. Plus, what I really like about this is that the ult power here comes from survivability and slightly more passive play without it being about bunkering up. What's most toxic is when the meta becomes agressive (revtane, horizon, etc) and you just get dunked on whether in pubs or ranked. A more passive meta might be a little more boring on the surface but could ultimately make the game nicer to play for most players.
Idk why bring her if you can bring horizon same utility to get high ground... the only other thing is to get flank but that is rare for scenerio to happen... where most of her power is at her ult but i dislike the option that people can take ult teleport which result in people chasing hard... the only really good thing is her passive being mini loba store... meh ult...very strict tactical... good passive... the only way i can see her good is if ult teleport did not work for enemy but that will cause octaine and alter meta so better she stays good but not great
I think not every legend HAS to be good in ALGS from the get go, as long as it has a good niche it will see play eventually as the meta and map changes. Alter is incredibly fun.
I have saved my team so many times with her ultimate. Being able to teleport while downed is game changing. I do think it’s a bit too slow and hard to get off. Or using it when about to get 3rd partied.
Alliance did for a bit too falcons tried out lifeline and fuse but guess what they're sticking to Cat ,blood and bang I don't understand why ppl want pros to play with what legends they like do they forget that money is on they line ? And her kit is really not for a team bro her q needs some changes the ult is great though
Feels situational and like it has the same problem as revenants old totem… it’s a backtracking legend with an amazing passive that just isn’t aggressive enough imo.
It's way better than Rev's totem, but yeah, still has a bunch of limitations. No one even seems to mention that the enemies can go through the open Ult portals too.
Have you tried the Alter vertical portal super jump? You place a vertical Alter portal, crouch, go into the portal, let go of crouch, then scroll wheel jump as you are coming out of the portal. It shoots you up in the air like a mantle jump and it's super fun to do.
Wraith has complete awareness of where her portal is going and the portal lets u go back and forth. Alter just props that nexus in a place and once they do want to escape a hairy situation, she has no clue as to the safety of the ult. There can be an entire team camping on your ult and u'll never know until u take that one way ticket. So yeah there's a reason why wraith is a better team player

I think Alter in rank is risky, why not use someone safer that you know would work especially with rp on the line. You would rarely think ‘damn an alter would’ve been perfect right now’
I think Alter strives in early and mid game but falls off after if a ring closes in open terrain especially. However before that she‘s nuts. If you master her tac by breaking lines of sight or flank smart she is the most illusive legend in the game

She is still just mid-tier. She literally offers nothing late game for her team. Shes better than Ash and worse than Wraith. Strong B tier and I would say that regardless of what pros think. Her ULT is actually pretty trash if you have to turn around and look at it to hit and youll just get thirsted by smart teams. It takes too long to use and is too clunky.

You can get away with using her tac selfishly a fair bit if you use your teammates as distractions/meat-shields, works especially well if you hava rev or gibby/conduit… after your team gets a knock is always a good time for it too
I mean, a legend that can move through walls and has a team-based escape system... Yeah, clearly she's pretty powerful. Sure, other players can follow you through the tac but that's still some serious utility. Plus, what I really like about this is that the ult power here comes from survivability and slightly more passive play without it being about bunkering up. What's most toxic is when the meta becomes agressive (revtane, horizon, etc) and you just get dunked on whether in pubs or ranked. A more passive meta might be a little more boring on the surface but could ultimately make the game nicer to play for most players.

Idk why bring her if you can bring horizon same utility to get high ground... the only other thing is to get flank but that is rare for scenerio to happen... where most of her power is at her ult but i dislike the option that people can take ult teleport which result in people chasing hard... the only really good thing is her passive being mini loba store... meh ult...very strict tactical... good passive... the only way i can see her good is if ult teleport did not work for enemy but that will cause octaine and alter meta so better she stays good but not great
I think not every legend HAS to be good in ALGS from the get go, as long as it has a good niche it will see play eventually as the meta and map changes. Alter is incredibly fun.

I have saved my team so many times with her ultimate. Being able to teleport while downed is game changing. I do think it’s a bit too slow and hard to get off. Or using it when about to get 3rd partied.
Her passive looting alone in endgame could be the difference in competitive. How many times you hear a pro say they need ammo or shields

Feels situational and like it has the same problem as revenants old totem… it’s a backtracking legend with an amazing passive that just isn’t aggressive enough imo.
It's way better than Rev's totem, but yeah, still has a bunch of limitations. No one even seems to mention that the enemies can go through the open Ult portals too.
Have you tried the Alter vertical portal super jump? You place a vertical Alter portal, crouch, go into the portal, let go of crouch, then scroll wheel jump as you are coming out of the portal. It shoots you up in the air like a mantle jump and it's super fun to do.
pros be like "alter isnt viable" then use wraith
Wraith has complete awareness of where her portal is going and the portal lets u go back and forth. Alter just props that nexus in a place and once they do want to escape a hairy situation, she has no clue as to the safety of the ult. There can be an entire team camping on your ult and u'll never know until u take that one way ticket. So yeah there's a reason why wraith is a better team player
i remember people running loba comps because of constant tunneling in final circles, imagine her just having that power in her passive, thats crazy

I think Alter in rank is risky, why not use someone safer that you know would work especially with rp on the line. You would rarely think ‘damn an alter would’ve been perfect right now’
I think Alter strives in early and mid game but falls off after if a ring closes in open terrain especially. However before that she‘s nuts.
If you master her tac by breaking lines of sight or flank smart she is the most illusive legend in the game

It’s the universal heirloom (useable with any legend) that came out not too long ago - it’s customizable and has different colors and skin variations
I think she’ll stay a pub legend. The same cringe lords who play wraith will play her just trying to troll people and leaving as soon as they get knocked
I think it’s due to her passive and ult being weak in combat her tact is very good but the rest of her kit is meh legends that are s tier have a kit that is useful in all situations e.g bang
