  • Elastography is USG guided modality that is used to measure the stiffness or elasticity of organs or tissues.
It is used for 3 organs:
    1) Liver - that is called fibroscan
    2) Breast- that is called elastoscan
    3) Thyroid- that is also called elastoscan
    Usages:
    1) It is a ZERO RADIATION procedure!!
    2) Cyst detection and differentiate between cancerous(malignant) or non-cancerous(benign) cysts.
    3) Cancerous cysts are stiff whereby non-cancerous is soft, so it can be diagnosed with the help of USG elastography. We can get a complete idea about the tissue condition with the help of a color map and different color codes which indicate the condition of the respective tissues.
    4) It is much preferred over biopsy as it covers the larger area for detection, unlike biopsy which is conducted from small tissues which are extracted.
    5) Instant diagnosis, unlike biopsy which takes a couple of days.
    Preparations:
For liver, elastography patient has to come empty stomach and wear loose clothes.

Dr, Thankyou for excellent explanation of Shear Wave Elastography(SWE) in a simple way . With increasing liver disease, SWE one of the best tool to evaluate & monitor the treatment of patients. Mindray DC80 in your center incorporates very good technology for SWE. We as Mindray are honored to be part of your center in serving you and your patients.
