I just went on vacation for ten days and put my store on vacation mode, no sales allowed. I wanted to enjoy my vacation and not have to worry about dealing with buyers during that time. When I got back homr, I began listing at least ten items a day and my store activity was back to normal within a week.
I’m SO glad to hear your story! I’m on vacation right now, maybe not a great time to be gone. I hope to have your experience when I get back. I will definitely list as many as I can per day. I have a lot in my drafts. How long were you away? I’ll be gone for 3 weeks.
Smart! I usually don't allow sales either, because I don't like dealing with the customers who don't read the adjusted handling time and ask when their item will be shipped out...
I go away for six weeks in Jan . Open my store two days before I get back and when I get home I’m back to normal . I actually got a sale on the road home
Yea I go to the beach for ten days every year over two weekends I shut down no sales allowed I turn back on the Friday before I get back and sales start back within a day or so. This is the best way to have a vacation I’ve done it both ways and it is a pain dealing with customers while trying to relax.
I sell a lot of media, and I can relate to the stock image comping question. If I want to offer the lowest price for a CD I'm listing, I filter by lowest price and match the lowest with real photos. I disregard stock photo CD and DVD listings because (as a buyer) I wouldn't trust them. I only compete with other sellers who use real photos. The biggest reason to use a dedicated "buying" account is if you source inventory on eBay. It's hard to send offers or negotiate if the seller can see your account and identify you as another reseller. They might even cancel your order if they think you're making a profit on their pricing mistake.
Great timing for this video. I just set a store coupon at 15% and have already seen a big increase in sales. Hoping to flush out my poor decisions from when I first started my store. HA!
Yes, this is true, but not always.... that is why I have all my items scanned but my post office is not super busy, and I set them aside for them to scan later, and they always do. But a scan sheet does not prove that the item has been dropped off, just a number of packages were dropped off. That potentially missing package could still have been forgotten or fell behind the seat in your car and this is why the post office will not accept a scan sheet scan or kiosk scan as an acceptance scan in the case of a lost or missing package. There is not undeniable proof that they did have the package (until it gets another scan at least).
I can attest from experience that a scan form is not an acceptance scan. If the package does not get scanned at the post office when the carrier returns, it has not been accepted. If it goes missing between point a and point b, then that's too bad. Neither Amazon nor eBay will consider it shipped and the post office will not pay out an insurance claim on the package.
So here is my question, let's say your iced in for a week bad ice storm cold temperatures so the ice isn't going to melt quick, you have orders coming in but your not able to get to the post office or ups etc], how do you deal with that? thx in advace.
If your package is delivered after the last estimated delivery date, eBay goes back to see if there was an official acceptance scan within your handling window. A scan sheet scan will not count because it’s not an actual acceptance scan. Insisting in getting each package scanned is the best way to protect yourself from shipping defects! The internet is full of scan sheet-related descents to below standard!
Thank you for the information. I will need to do more research here and issue an update in next video since it sounds like I gave out some wrong information!
USPS will purposely deny many claims. You have to be vigilant and appeal. Sometimes 2 appeals. They make it difficult before they payout any claim. Make the buyer ship the damaged item back. I've had USPS require me to bring in the item several times.
If you are having a lot of damages I would do research on how to properly pack items, something I did early on. Have not had a damaged item in shipping for 5 years after researching how to ship on UA-cam.
I have had one Run in with the so-called Vero they had my listing taken down said it was counterfeit which was a little kids bicycle new in the box still sealed, that I bought on clearance at Walmart explain that lol. So I emailed the Vero that had my listing taken down, that was three months ago almost still no reply. I am also emailed Ebay And of course they got back to me in about 4 days and said there's nothing they could do for me don't list it again. No surprise there of course! So, I started doing my own research best I could & found my way into some forums that were discussing the Vero program, apparently what had happened to me was becoming more common than not! There are rumors that some sellers have ways to use the VERO program to take out their competition! That is the only thing that makes sense to me because I know that bike was not counterfeit but at the same time it doesn't make sense because I only had one to sell! They had no reason to think I was competition. Who knows just something to think about lol. Thanks, I appreciate the content have a good one.
I started a sale after seeing your video and saw an increase in sales and interest. Unfortunately I have had a few people already offering me several dollars lower than my sale prices, which is 20% off. Currently receiving offers on an item I just listed that's part of this sale that ends in a few days and sadly the buyer isn't seeing my decline message explaining why I won't take less yet. Buyers don't see a lot of things that would make our lives as a seller much easier.
23:47 I think that most people think that the scan sheet is equivalent to an acceptance scan but it is not if your item never gets an acceptance scan you are out of luck even if you have a scan sheet saying they took possession because they scanned the sheet and not the package ...99.99% of the time it is not going to become an issue but if all they scan is the scan sheet that is not acknowledgment of acceptance by USPS if it were to come to a claim
We may have an answer to this question very soon… I saw that other reseller and she told me it’s not proof to use in a claim, then I sent my question, and then literally the next day 4 packages all showed up as “shipment received, package acceptance pending”. Since then one popped into tracking, but I still have 3 in that status since 18th/19th. I’ll report back when I get to the bottom of this… I think I’m going to be out money.
Yes! I just set up a coupon starting Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday after watching Justin's screen shots through the discount screen. I will end my other sales so the coupons do not stack, also a tip Justin mentioned. We will see how it goes!
Listing Frequency: My *opinion* is that activity of any sort is important, with extra weight given to how much you list. HOWEVER… eBay has shown through their shipping time frame that they don’t expect you to work on weekends, therefore, it’s my thought that it would seem logical that they focus on consistent listings per week (not per day). But I also *suspect* that they’d also like to see activity of any sort 5 days a week. Purely speculating, obviously.
Could the shipping policy rather have more to do the US post office? While my town has Saturday mail delivery, the counter is only open 9-11am and obviously not at all on Sundays. It’s my understanding that some post offices don’t have any weekend services at all.
@ unless it’s different in the US (then here in Canada), my 2 day shipping requirements don’t count weekends. So, if something sells on a Friday, I don’t have to ship it until the end of Tuesday. eBay gives me the weekend off - even though post office and courier drop-off locations are available here 7 days a week. So I based my assumptions on that. It world be (arguably) illegal for eBay to favour your store better if you worked 7 days a week. And with that thinking in mind, even creating listings to be scheduled for 7 days would be unnecessary. This is what lead me to think that 5 day activity, with certain degrees obtained, is what matters. And that that activity MIGHT be cumulative over the 5 days. So, if you list 25 items one day a week, and are active for a certain period of time every day of a 5 day week, then eBay will look on that favourably. I don’t think they expect you to be a slave to the system. But having said that, based on ax recent email I received where they increased my limits (I have a store) and encouraged me to list even more, I suspect that someone who lists 50 items a week (for example) will be promoted more than someone who lists 25. I don’t know the algorithm… but logic is your friend.
I think you are incorrect about sell thru rates… You must include the sold in the total number assuming everything else is equal, because the sold were part of that 90-day active. Example; 10 active, 10 sold. This is 10 sold out of 20 that were active during that 90 day cycle, everything else being equal. So not 100% STR, but 50%. Please correct me off I’m wrong.
Yes that sounds right, though in this video I was not calculating a proper sell-thru rate, but talking about seeing 30 sold over the last 90 days, which is about 1 every 3 days on average (90 / 3). And with 120 currently listed, if no others were listed, it would take approximately 360 days (120 x 3) to sell the remainder of the active stock if demand remained constant.
not sure when this changed for filing a USPS insurance claim but USPS now requires the box be inspected on the receiving end, they have to take the box into their respective Post Office to be inspected to complete the USPS claims process. They can deny the claim if they determine the item was improperly packed or if you did not tell them there was glass in the box in which they would only insure it if you pay the extra cost of Fragile service they offer. The yellow Fragile sticker will cost an extra $ 11 and the box will be handled differently , not the usual toss over the shoulder and hope it hits the bin method !
I saw that today. I e been thinking about what we’re going to do. eBay was showing that stores who do their suggested banner, logo, & video have a 26% higher conversion rate.
Man, I did the thing where I sold something within minutes and wondered if I could have got more. It was a rare vintage NBA hat from the 90s but had a bit of musty smell (which I disclosed). Sounds like that can happen to all of us at times. Hope you're having a good week!
Again, great information. % off sales always seems to work. One comment, showing that the average of YOUR sales takes 4 months shows that PATIENCE is the virture.... after 2/3 weeks, we get antsy when you see a bunch of "likes" or "watchers" for an item , but it could take months for the sale. Thanks
Hey Justin, great information. I do have one thing to add to the person who has the returns of damaged items. Maybe they need to revamp their packaging process. Wrap, wrap, and wrap again. Bubble wrap, pool noodles, and / or double box. Thanks for sharing. SheisMonaLisa314
My store is on sale mode until December. 15% off with a $5.00 coupon. I beginning to think watchers really don't buy. Got 50 watchers. Some are trying to get an even lower price with all the above. Most of my items are in the $20 range but I do have many that are over $50 to over $100. . Ebay say send offers. I am like they already have two. Not doing another one. What do you think?
@@justinresellsi find that some people are just watchers because they own the same item and want to see how much it sells for… haven’t found this out from a seller perspective, i just know because i do it myself 🤷🏼♂️😂 when questioning buyers, look in the mirror 😎👍🏻
Ebay buyers are just a bunch of entitled individuals specially below the 50 dollar margin. Amazon at least you don't have do deal with this hassle. I am now only focused on high ticket highly desirable unique clothing and I had no problems.
I ignore Watchers - I don't think they're going to probably buy anyways... they just take up space & probably are cheap ... I think a lot of the extras that come along with many of the applications were just thrown in there too have the perception of more bells & whistles... probably useless..LaxvespaLosAngeles
Just because your item has a watcher, that doesn't mean they clicked on the heart icon. eBay tends to add items to buyers watch list based on just viewing the item. So the items you truly believe have a watcher may not even be interested.
Funny. I just scheduled a Kate Spade handbag that someone gave me over the summer. It's got some wear. Not too bad. I saw one like it listed for $95.00. I have it scheduled for $30.00. But I think I should increase the price before it goes live. Hmmm...
Hey Justin. Your videos have been helping my eBay business a lot lately. I have a question about one thing. In one of your previous videos, you mention you buy eBay labels with a credit card instead of eBay funds because it allows you to build points to buy travel/airline tickets. Do you mind disclosing what credit card you use? There are so many and I can’t decide. Thanks and keep up the great videos.
Thanks for your knowledge Justin, I always enjoy your videos & look forward to them. Question….do you go in & raise your prices like 5-10% and then run a 10-20% sale or not raise the prices at all?
Thanks for your videos. Do you have a video about the eBay subscription fees? So far I’ve been selling on the free plan where you can list 250 items but I’m getting close to that and need to understand the subscription options.
Question... Was just charged additional for Fed Ex shipment stating that they had to correct the address... The address is given to us by ebay and the buyer and we really don't have control over this. So I am now at a net loss when the additional shipping fees are taken from my account. I understand cost of doing business but this really burns as the item only had a margin of about $12 and now they are taking $16 additional for an address change. Not sure I can recover this from ebay or just eat the loss.
Eyewear niche seller here. Sounds like the evil empire is trying to scare off competition. Luxottica has bought nearly every big-name eyewear brand, they own EVERYTHING now. I sell Ray Ban all day long without any issues.
Thank so much for your videos. I have learn a lot from them. My question is.. I accidentally printed a shipping label twice because I cannot for some reason use my thermal printer with eBay like I do with poshmark. I have tried but haven’t succeeded. So what i do is .. save a picture of it, send it to my email and print it on a regular prnter. eBay charged me twice for the label would they refund me if I contact them? Thank you. Sorry for the long question 😊
Is there a statute of limitations on opening a damage claim with the post office? When I first started selling I didn’t even know that I could make those claims, but that was years ago, so I’m just wondering at what point it is too late to do so
Let say someone does not subscribe to a store like myself, and I don't have access to setting promotions .... Any thoughts on using "Black Friday" in the title of a listing in an effort to drum up business for those that may search the keyword?
I have best offer option on all of my listings. When doing a sale or coupon, do you, or would you remove the best offer option. Particularly for Black Friday but also as a general rule of thumb. Thanks for any advice you can give.
When you include items with the "Best Offer" option in an eBay sale event, buyers can still submit offers. However, any accepted offer will override the sale event discount. This means that if a buyer's offer is accepted, the sale event discount won't apply to that transaction.
@@justinresells So in other words, if the coupon is for an additional percent off or item is on sale they don't get the discount on any offer they make? What if I send the offer? I've been sending offers then assuming the final price if accepted is including that additional sale amount. Thanks so much for responding.
You talked about vacation mode. Would it be a good idea to list everyday while in vacation mode? I’m away from my store for weeks at a time as I visit out of state family often. I haven’t come up with a good idea to counter the fact that I’m away from my store so much. Anyone have any ideas?
Hello. I've been selling on eBay for a long time, and I like listening to your videos and hearing your opinions and ideas on different topics. I just wanted to suggest the people that I create a category called non-sale listings for those listings that I obviously don't want to put on sale. I found it hard when you might have one item in one of your store categories that you don't want on sale but you want the rest to be on sale.n
I shipped a bike tire a couple of months ago and ended up refunding the buyer due to item not received. The tracking shows that it was making it's way to the destination but stopped providing updates and seems to be lost in one of their facilities. How can I file a claim for this if I can't provide proof if damage?
GREAT VIDEOS!!! just got a quick question, if you have a few watchers on your item, is it better to send them a offer price are drop the price to try to sell the item? any info would be great, thanks again have a blessed holiday
21:47 Another UA-camr reseller I watched in a video this week said that when a scheduled item drops, it does not get counted by the algorithm as a listing for that day. He recommends using drafts and dropping the listings on the actual day so they are counted as listings. I don’t know if it’s true (does anyone really know how the algorithm works? I don’t think so.) but it seems to comport with what I’ve been experiencing because I’ve scheduled out my entire week and seen no uptick in sales like I do when I list every day. I’m going to test this out by scheduling for the afternoon and then getting on in the morning and cancelling the scheduling and actively dropping the listings. I’ll let you know if it changes my results.
You're right that nobody but eBay really knows and they don't share that type of information. But it is a good idea to test it out for yourself. Personally I don't think it makes a difference at all. Why would it make sense for eBay to distinguish between the two and make one more effective than the other? I can't think of a logical reason. Plus in my experience no one single factor (outside of promoted listings) has a significant impact on search ranking. Instead it's a mix of all sorts of variables, which makes it difficult to pinpoint what exactly could be causing a drop or rise in sales for some time period.
I need some advice about how to deal with a customer who wants to purchase an additional print from my stash that is not and never has been listed on Ebay...A customer bought a Christmas print from me earlier this month thru Ebay and it was one of about 20 I bought from an estate...they requested a list of other prints I had and are interested in purchasing one of the others...Do I have to list this print on Ebay and sell it to the customer incuring the usual fees or can I sell it directly...Does Ebay own the customer or just the transaction?
Create a new listing and process through eBay as usual; otherwise, you will not have any seller protections should the customer claim they didn't receive it. Also outside sales is prohibited as is exchanging contact information (which you would likely need to do if trying to ship and process payment outside of eBay) Also eBay messages are scanned for these kinds of activities/communications and could affect you seller account status.

I have found that viewers and watchers are not a good indicator of how fast something will sell. Sell-through rate is a more accurate metric.
@@justinresellsi find that some people are just watchers because they own the same item and want to see how much it sells for…
haven’t found this out from a seller perspective, i just know because i do it myself 🤷🏼♂️😂
when questioning buyers, look in the mirror 😎👍🏻
I use Chase Business Ink Unlimited or something like that
Thanks for your knowledge Justin, I always enjoy your videos & look forward to them. Question….do you go in & raise your prices like 5-10% and then run a 10-20% sale or not raise the prices at all?
I usually do not
For stale items, do you think my listings would fare better in search by having a sale or ending the listing/sell similar?
very awesome, thanks for the black friday advice! Got my coupon up courtesy of this reminder!!
For 21.95 a month and a store presence with added selling tools, I signed up for a store the first day.
Thanks so much for answering my questions!
Sincerely appreciate your content!
You're welcome!
I love Frankoma - glad it is doing well for you!
Well done! Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family!
Same to you!
I found it hard when you might have one item in one of your store categories that you don't want on sale but you want the rest to be on sale.n
good idea, thanks for sharing!
I shipped a bike tire a couple of months ago and ended up refunding the buyer due to item not received. The tracking shows that it was making it's way to the destination but stopped providing updates and seems to be lost in one of their facilities. How can I file a claim for this if I can't provide proof if damage?
This would not be a damage claim, but a missing package claim, and the tracking showing no updates would be the proof.
GREAT VIDEOS!!! just got a quick question, if you have a few watchers on your item, is it better to send them a offer price are drop the price to try to sell the item? any info would be great, thanks again have a blessed holiday
Send offers.
I’ve seen Ray Bans that say Luxottica on them so good to learn that they own Ray Ban
Thank you …that is what I thought but wanted to check before proceeding…
Thank you for the info! I appreciate it 🎉
Thanks, Justin
Also, if you have a sale running do you still send offers? Seems like a lot of money lost.
the offer takes precedence, offers and discounts don't stack
We've submitted claims to USPS at least twice with all required information including pictures of damage and they still denied us both times.
So weird! I have never had one denied.
@justinresells yeah I make signs and one of them was bent at about a 30 degree angle
I want to know the best way to advertise I have an actual eBay store. I’ve been selling since Jan and only have 35 followers. I put it out on FB and I do promotions all the time without much luck. How do you get people to even look ?
I don't mess with any of that stuff, just focus on sourcing high-demand inventory...that will attract buyers on its own
Thanks Justin
Thanks
Am I the only viewer that watches these things and has never sold an item? I'm just so interested by the whole process but don't actually resell.
I was thinking same thing past few weeks, I have seen 666 so many times that it is odd, and making me wonder. ✌🏻💚🙏🏻
👍
000 keeps showing up in my sales numbers.
Wei000rd
I never get any sales from sale events or coupons. I seem to only get sales from offers
