      Hi Steven,
      The 140,000 is a big old unit. I saw it only the other day in my local store. Looks a good bit of kit though 👍
      If I ever went bigger I'd probably go for a Nexus also. I like simple things and the Nexus is just simple and efficient. Nothing can really go wrong with one as there's nothing to it really. That's why I would choose one anyway. Simple.....like me 😆.

    Very good explanation of the cleaning process. I can't find information about the three media filters which are underneath the UV where the water enters the filter unit. I have the Screenmatic 2 60,000 filter system. Do they nead cleaning? Also how do you fit them, or do they just sit there? I only got a glimpse of your 3 white media filters and they looked like they were attached to the side of the filter box, if so how? I found a few videos about cleaning and reviewing the system, but nothing on unboxing and setting it up. Your video is helpful on the cleaning side as it is well explained. 👍

      I got the very first version of this box, about 12y old by now. Had to replace the motor driving the sieve belt and the sponges once. About the pipes with these stones in there, they are a host for some bacteria performing a second stage biological cleaning. They are just sitting loose in the water flow between the separator and the exit pipe.

    At the bottom of the sponges there is a plastic channel that links up- I assume that let’s water through after it’s gone through the sponge. One of my sponges has a cap on the end of this channel. What end of the filter is it supposed to go in?

      Hi mate, thank you 👍🏼
      Sorry for slow response as I’ve been working away.
      Mine was running a 16,000 lph Oase eco premium pump on a 1000 gallon pond only. It probably had to travel up 1.5m and through a few bends etc. so it would have been running less than 16,000 p/h.
      Probably my first question would be is what pump are you running?
      Thanks ☺️

    I notice that you leave the 4 bio media tubes in the filter whilst pumping the sponges. Does detritus not get stuck in the tubes?

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  2 роки тому +1

      Hi George,
      Thanks for the comments 👍🏼
      Yes, it absolutely could get stuck around that I suppose. But, that’s why I blast the watering can over everything and I do normally rinse it over the media tubes too. Sometimes two watering cans.
      But you make a point, it could be removed before pumping the sponges I suppose 👍🏼
      Do you run this Oase system yourself?

      You should be good with the new filter mate, they really are a doddle to look after 👍🏼
      Just another thing what you might want to do at some point…I removed the Zeolite that comes in those plastic tubes with large pieces of Alpha Grog. Just a bit more bio filtration. To be honest, you could fill these with any media you choose that will fit inside them. Hope that makes sense 👍🏼
      Thanks.

      Not with this style filter but you could have a pump on the outside of the pond which is attached to a skimmer? Then this could be pumped up and over a bakki shower.

    • @abkoi

      Hi mate,
      It's a Charles Austin 80L. Its way over powered just for a bottom drain alone but, I am hoping to be adding a small moving bed after my filter so it will be powering that too. I got it for £100.00 which is a decent price for a diaphragm air pump. Link below.

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  2 роки тому +1

      Hi mate,
      Thanks for the kind words 👍🏼
      Yeah I just do it once a week, normally on a Saturday or Sunday. I’ll be honest I’ve never removed the sponges as I’ve not felt like I have had to so far. The watering can trick like on the video I find helps clean the bottom a bit more if needed.
      I’m also quite lightly stocked and only feed once a day.
      How many fish do you have in your pond and how often do you feed? How big is your pond?

    What is the pond size in liters and do you have biological filtration? Only biochemical filtration is not enough i think

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  2 роки тому +1

      Hello 👋🏼
      So the pond is 4560 litres (1000 gallons).
      The screen removes all of the larger pieces of waste, this is the mechanical filtration.
      The water then goes down into the large sponge section, this is the biological filtration.
      The filter has been running for nearly 2 years now and all is good 👌🏼
      Hope this helps and thank you for watching 👍🏼

    • @koihellas
      @koihellas 2 роки тому +2

      @@abkoi To my humble opinion only sponges do not provide sufficient bacteria colonies for your fish. This is a marketing thing that many brands are saying. Apart from crystal water you need also minerals and sufficient bacteria in numbers to have happy fish. I think your system needs improvement by utilizing an extra biochamber using ceramical bacteria house or plastic media using movig bed. You will see difference in fish welness and growth.

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  2 роки тому +1

      No problem, I appreciate and welcome anyone's opinions.

      I always said if I had a much bigger pond I’d have a Nexus, no question. I love the simplicity of them. Nothing really can go wrong with them, can cram way more media in if needs be too. Also they don’t cost the earth. I appreciate approx £1400 is by no means cheap but compared to some systems out there they are really competitive. Second hand market you can get some bargains too.
      Cheers 👍🏼
