Joyce is one of my favorite characters! And she talks a lot about world-building too, which is a very detailed aspect of the game, since it's basically evolved from a DnD campaign.
This playthrough is really promising so far - I love your note taking, and what seems like genuine interest in the world! Excited to see how you proceed!
When you get those orbs that have dialogue attached, like that communism one that have the opt in or opt out, its generally no downside to opting in, all it will do is add another thought to your thought cabinet from which you can choose later to internalize
@@LukaelPlays Yeah, it's definitely not super clear, so I was really glad that the first time I got one of those choices was something I really wanted.
Great episode! I love the reality lowdown. I'm a sucker for world building and lore dumps. I also love Roy at the Bird's Nest. I like his voice and his nifty little shop.
Joyce is my Favorit character of the game exactly for that, Such a well written character makes this masterful world building even better. The more you talk to her the more conversations are getting deeper crazier and more emotional
Unironically love how it only takes six hours and some serious memory loss from "Who am I?" to "What _is_ money, really?" to "COMMUNISM FOR EVERYONE!" A 🫡 to an almost-comrade. Maybe next time. 😂
Every time I watch an episode of this, I am reminded of one conversation that you have not reached yet (and may not). Makes me very sentimental. I see it has been 3 years and 3 months since I played this game. I never did get around to a second, crazier playthrough. Someday.
@@LukaelPlays Gosh, I just don't have time. I didn't start watching youtube until the past two or three years. Of course, I used it for random music for a long time. But I am so mentally and physically wiped out after work, I can't game anymore. Pretty weird considering it was my main source of entertainment since I was a child. So, watching people play has been important I guess. Get to do it through other people. I watch youtube, instead of netflix like a normal person 😂
There's no specific order to complete things, so don't worry Also, it's okay to not understand all the terms and names. You're an amnesiac cop after all, you're supposed to feel lost. People continue to speak to you as if you know this world, yet you know nothing - a good way to really feel like your main character
Stumbled into this playthrough, and my only advice is to lean into the weird and outlandish, don't be scared to get a little crazy. What a great game Disco Elysium is.
There's actually an achievement for finishing the game without inspecting the body. I mean, I wouldn't recommend it for a first playthrough, since it's a pretty big part of the story, but you can't really break the game by not doing things or not doing them in a specific order.
2:29 Dude! That was awesome! That's the most authentic-sounding French accent I've ever heard come out of your mouth! You've almost got it down perfectly. Might I recommend the original English version of 'Allo 'Allo just to help you get those finishing touches down? 😉 Oh my goodness! I'm joking, of course, but that accent, man it really cracked me up (it was so unexpected) but it made the perfect statement only a Frenchman could make as he loads into Disco Elysium 😂 I salute you sir, and offer a general apology on behalf of all my ancestors... and I hope you don't mind the little joke. It's meant in a warm spirit, and in response to your own. I guess you know that but the internet being what it is these days it's best to make sure.
Don't worry about the missing skill point, yeah! Let's just say it makes for a more unique experience wwwwww By the way, stuff like the communism thing, you can opt in without it affecting your run. it'll just give you a new thought, and it will be in full effect only when you choose to internalise it
Also, you can take this quests without siding with them too much, like not telling her the result or another way for the union quest. They usually help you on your case, although I would never get involved with a certain ‘advanced theory’ nor is it necessary.
It’s kinda ironic how common it is for non political DE players to get communism pop up first, get confused, opt out, then be mocked as a centrist the entire game.
An important note: you can softlock yourself in the first two days if you do not prioritize paying your hostel bill. So I would advise spending money there before elsewhere.
@@ceasarsalazar5940 he already has 130 real, even if he spends some and isn't able to pay for the room on the first day, he will have at least 20 on the second And I genuinely haven't seen A SINGLE playthrough where someone soft locked themselves
@@Jev_the_fluorescent_shrimp I mean probably not now since he knows that a softlock is possible. I haven't seen anyone else do it, but I know for a fact it's possible, so it seemed worth mentioning.
just a quick tip: if you can top up your health and morale with meds, then you should max them out, as they give you higher endurance and volition stats respectively which help whenever you need a check against one of them! keep spares obviously but there's not much point running around with eg 1 health and 3 charges if you have 4 health (endurance) spots
@@LukaelPlaysbut keep in mind that both health and morale will be restored after sleeping, so if you took damage in the evening it might be better to just let it heal by itself
Additionally, there are some dialogue options and interactions that will heal health/morale damage, and this healing can go to waste if you are topped off in that state. This happened in EP.1, when the detective thought about how the pair of shoes felt on his feet. He got a "+0 morale" result, since it was maxed out.
>plays a detective game >detective wakes up in the whirling-in-rags >is being told he is there to investige a murder >a murder behind the whirling-in-rags >five characters tell him there is a BODY in the BACK OF THE WHIRLING-IN-RAGS and that he is a DETECTIVE sent here for the BODY >continues to go absolutely everywhere except the back of thw whirling in rags for 6 hours
Fun fact: your volition doesn’t really believe in any ideology, yet it objects to you rejecting communism if you have it high enough *because* of the sheer impossibility of it. Likewise it doesn’t get along too well with moralism as it likes “swift, decisive action”
