    Hi, no I don't race any more, not because of the crash but financial reasons. I was racing on a very tight budget and this crash wiped out my savings and a lot more, I was off work for 4 months unpaid. The crash was due to an unfortunate series of events and it's very rare for this to happen especially on the road. Hope you have fun with your roadster.

    And that kids is why you need window nets

    • @BlueXonar
      @BlueXonar 8 років тому +16

      It wouldn't have done much good considering that the door catch failed. The MX5 doors are frameless too so there would be some issues installing one, unless you compromise your ability to quickly exit the car.

    • @Smokin07ram
      @Smokin07ram 8 років тому +70

      Nonesene!
      The net gets installed to the roll bar and top door bar (lower rollbar).
      There is no way that net is coming off.
      There is also a center net that goes between the roll bar/harness bar, and a spec 8 eye bolt that comes through the center of the dash.
      You see enough wrecks and you wont run without those

    • @BlueXonar
      @BlueXonar 8 років тому +15

      Didn't know that, thanks. I always assumed the nets are just in the window opening.

    • @andrewchong1154
      @andrewchong1154 7 років тому +24

      Sebmeister window nets would have done nothing.... in open wheel racing, we wear arm restraints to keep our arms from coming out of the car. those should be required in any car that has an open top or doors etc. I never drive a racecar without them and I've flipped over quite a few cars (open wheel)

    The Safety Devices roll cage is higher so a hardtop cannot be fitted, it gives extra clearance above the drivers head so you can use the standard seat mountings, my helmet did not make contact with the roll cage and was not damaged. Unfortunately it's not until you have or see an accident like this that you do things to make it safer, arm restraints are compulsory for next season so it should protect drivers arms in the future especially when their unconscious.

    He was out , concussion rendered him unconscious looked like the roll cage rolled on his arm and he wasn’t moving once the car stopped. Those nets across the shoulders to keep the arms in look like a great thing after seeing this video.

    @keborylam the hardtop does nothing in a rollover. Have you ever seen a miata's hardtop. And a lightweight one at that? They peel off like tissue paper in rollovers. They are good for aerodynamics and add some rigidity, but they do absolutly nothing for a roll over.

    This is absolutely...wow...I am so glad you're okay, Mark. Holy crap, feel bad for the loss of the car but in hindsight it must be one hell of a story to live to tell :) How come it was video'd btw? How fast were you going when you crashed?..140km/h?

    i was really surprised to see a mx5 roll that hard! they are like go-karts, such a low center of gravity. This is the first time i have ever seen one roll...

    wait...that's you??
    You lived?
    You looked dead after the crash. Did you completely black out?
    What caused that? Head hit the roll bar? Hit something else? Or did the fear make you faint?

      At a guess, the kind of G force experienced in a roll like that would be enough to make you black out.

    @zed180 I'm not sure about your roll cage requirements but in the US we race specmiatas with the hardtop and a roll cage. I had to lower my seat but it beats having my arms flainiling every which way as your video shows. You were lucky not to lose your arm. At least use arm restrains.
