How do you do your planning and when do you start it for the beginning of the new school year? My son is in kindergarten this year but going into first. Even though we’re still working on kindergarten I’m so passionate about learning how to be a teacher I’m finding I’m already prepping and planning for September. My next question is, if you had kids and decided to homeschool them, what items and skills would you definitely take from being a teacher to homeschooling?

EXPLICIT PHONICS INSTRUCTION FOR SURE!! Especially for Kindergarten and first grade!! Made. phonics progression scope and sequence and then find resources and videos that show how to do explicit phonics lessons to practice phonemic awareness, decoding, bending, fluency etc.
Props to you for bettering yourself as a homeschool teacher! 👩‍🏫

I teach first grade as well. We use STAR for benchmarking; however, in our district we are asked to use the reading assessment to benchmark our students. Do you assess with early literacy and also reading or do you only use the early literacy portion all year?

We use Early Literacy throughout the year and we are doing the STAR reading this month to end the year (in addition to early literacy)
