Pointless saying it but his voice is no longer capable, he is so bright and talented surely he must know he can't hit the notes anymore. I doubt he needs the money, maybe he does though.
Its not that he cant hit notes, it's that he deliberately chooses to sing this one in a weird way. I know because I just saw him live and he sounded fantastic on some of the other tunes
