I work in a tshirt print shop and we use Zinc Formaldehyde Sulfoxylate for discharge printing with water-based screen print ink. We mix it into a clear ink that when printed on a shirt is invisible. When dried down our dryer or with a lighter flame it bleaches out the dyed color of the shirt so we can print light colors on dark shirts.. But also once its dried we can use a uv blacklight to see where that layer is to know if we need to align it more.

Haven't told this story in a long time, if ever. My dad was a chemical engineer. Gawd knows what he was keeping in the basement. But, we were flying paper airplanes into the dusk of a late spring or early summer night. Just as the sun was slipping away with only a sliver of light, my Dad had came up with a concoction to soak the paper airplanes. I couldn't have been better timed. Just as the last few rays of the Sun were giving way to the child's delight of a cool evening in which you could run around to your heart's delight. And, paper airplanes stained with glowing green were launched into the night.... by a bunch of kids who really needed to burn off some energy... one of which who was me... once upon a time.
OMG that is the coolest story ever. I easily visualized every detail, and with each word passing before my eyes, a smile spread across my face. Thank you again for sharing this story.

Early science in a nutshell.
But also once its dried we can use a uv blacklight to see where that layer is to know if we need to align it more.

i think something thats very underrated, is that in the beginning when he was reacting the zinc and sulfur he says "it can be ignited with a hot glass rod" and it does nothing, and then he says the same exact thing again for the iron and sulfur so it makes u think it wont work but it actually does

That's wonderful.
Best. Childhood. Story. Ever. 🖤
This was delightful to read. Are you a writer by chance?
@@daluckycat5788 I appreciate the compliment. The only professional writing I've done is technical writing, with two semesters of technical writing courses behind it. I'm an IT person doing cybersecurity these days. It's amazing how important communication skills are. That is, bad communication skills are a major cost in business, and no one seems to care. So, it's these online conversations that have motivated me to add to my repertoire of skills the writing style of a story teller. I enjoy doing it, and I'm so glad to hear that someone appreciates it. Thank you.

There used to be a small local toy store in my area that had a little glow in the dark room in the back. It was a little stockroom that the owner used to display all the glow in the dark and UV stuff. Of course, it was kept dark with only UV lights to see by. And they sold a lot of cool stuff in there. I used to love going in there when I was a kid. I wish that store was still in business. It was called Cracker Jacks and it was in the Montgomery Shopping Center in Princeton NJ.
