Agreed. Hideous forced hooting shrieking quivering operatic voices. And they think they're making music and making people respectfully happy rather than destroying music and making people sad. Or they don't care about the music but just use it as an excuse for attention, entries in their CVs and bits of extra money.
Was a little kid at primary school but will never forget this day!! The sky blues winning the FA cup that's what are dreams are made. Let's hope we get back to the premier league one day!!
You're almost there. Best wishes in the Play-Off Final. Highfield Road used to be my favourite away stadium. Should never have been knocked. Hope you have another memorable day in Wembley.
Pure, magical Wembley emotion, what an atmosphere this stadium had in those days. There’s absolutely no comparison today, with all the insane money, inflated egos of players, ridiculous transfer fees, sacked managers to name a few. The FA Cup used to represent everything exciting about the game in England, nowadays it’s more of a competition that most clubs and managers are not interested in. Adding to that, the new Wembley is an obvious example of how change can sometimes be a total disaster!
Remember going on a school tour to London back in 1988 where a tour of Wembley Stadium was among the main attractions. Goosebumps when we exited the tunnel. Can only imagine how it would've felt with a capacity crowd. Would return to those days in a heartbeat. What was a sport of the people now shredded by corporate greed and corruption.
The fa cup final.. absolute magical occasion,, the whole day beginning in the morning with it’s a knock out final special with Eddie waring and Stuart hall.. the traditional band playing on the pitch..I like cheer leaders, but a band is the essence of a sense of occasion ❤
FA Cup Finals in those days were great and Wembley with the Twin Towers was fantastic and it had Character unlike what is now with that stupid Arch it looks like a giant bread basket. And Cup Finals are not the same now with stupid kick off of 5pm it should be the Traditional Time of 3pm.
Obviously a mistake not printing the words in the programme - Bobby Robson tries to find them to no avail. But still, along with my wedding day and the days my daughters were born, this one was up there. 35 years ago tomorrow. PUSB!
I searched for this at Wembley. Although not religious the words and tune have always moved me. Unfortunately very few if any joined in with the singing. It could have been so powerful if everyone joined in. The new Wembley is a magnificent stadium but never looks as full as the old Wembley, too many corporates disappearing for drinks and prawn sandwiches. Kick off needs moving back to 3pm and Some rules created to stop big clubs devaluing the early rounds. Perhaps they should name a 16 man squad that they have to stick to throughout the competition.
The players need to enter the stadium from one of the end tunnels as well that was part of Cup Final day. Wembley erupted as the two sides walked across the pitch. The new Wembley is awful but they could try bring back some of the traditions...
Old Wembley still the finest venue. Nothing quite like it now. This was when the cup final truly mattered
So true
Yes.
You are so right.
A great day in the English way of life.
Amazing
My Dad was 24 and in that field of Blue somewhere. He says it was one of the best days of his life. The old Wembley was something special.
The best ever fa cup final ever 🙌 👌 👏
Golden old days @ wembley
Love this version of abide with me compared to today's version with the crappy live singer.
Totally agree. Live singer spoils it
they try to imitate the yanks.

I hope you do. From a Hearts fan.
Good luck mate. Another big club weighed down by the corporate greed that's killing the game.

Please bring community singing back. You'd be surprised at how many would sing.

Thanks Elmswood,
Nice moment in what was a nice traditional occasion.
Was in the Tottenham end for this and walked all the way home after the game

@Tone's tones Good suggestions. Abide with me is very moving.
